Afflalo/Chandler/Nene

rainmaker

Hall of Famer
This summer, one team we really need to look hard at prying a player or two from is Denver. They have three players, at the three positions we could use some help. Any of the three would be an upgrade.

I don't see Denver keeping all three, and they might be lucky to keep two of the three. This is exactly where our capspace, and the new CBA helps us. Den is on the books for 41M next year, including Nene's 11.6M, but Nene has been pretty public in wanting an extension. Without one, he'll opt out. With Afflalo/Chandler, they'll have to match any other offer, which we could probably out bid if we want to. They can't afford extending Nene, and matching the offers for Afflalo/Chandler. I also don't see Chandler wanting to backup Gallo. This also doesn't take into account all the draft picks Den picked up, which just adds to their overall team salary.

I personally see them extending Nene, which means we get an opportuntiy to bid for either Afflalo or Chandler. Both would help.
Nene ETO
Afflalo RFA
Chandler RFA

That should be "positions". For a second there I thought you were arguing that Nene is a small forward!

I agree that any of the three would help our team - Nene the most, I think. Either Afflalo or Chandler would be an interesting and helpful piece, but not the type of move to put us over the top.

I have brought up Nene before as I believe that a Cousins - Nene - Dalembert frontcourt rotation would be one of the best in the league, if not the best. It brings everything and any of those 2 players can play on the court at the same time. This off-season Nene would be my #1 free agent target (I see Dally as one of our own and even though we need to re-sign him and technically he is one, I don't consider him a "real" free agent)

Afflalo is another guy that would be a terrific signing! The ultimate role player type. While I would have preferred if he were a genuine SF, I would still like to see him next to Tyreke. Great long range shooter and a very good defender.

Don't have any interest in Chandler to be honest. Just think there are better options out there as either a FA signings or trade possibilities.

The beauty about our cap flexibility and having building blocks already is that we can front load contracts (provided new CBA allows it) and pinch someone like Afflalo from Denver.

I'm not sold on Chandler, and have more questions about him than the other 2. I need to watch him more in a different system than NY's. But he can shoot, both spotting up and off a screen, is athletic, can handle the ball, and is an average defender. Hard to tell how good of a defender he is though coming from NY's system where defense wasn't stressed. Does have upside though at age 23. I'll be watching him closely with Denver.
