Adelman to send videotape to NBA offices

NBA officiating leaves a lot to be desired. I have been injured pretty badly in both softball and football games because of negligent officiating. I have probably given more injuries than I have received, but I never initiated any wars. Some guys live by cheap shots and dirty plays.

The bottom line is that games need to be controlled, and sometimes, referees fail to control things in the NBA.

I watched all three games, but I may be the first to admit that I have no clue what Adelman is talking about ... I thought the games were called very well and the calls are certainly not the reason why Seattle dominated the boards ...

Which video tapes do the coaches get? Do they get all the tapes shot by the television crews, or do they have special cameramen out there on the floor? There is no shortage of camera guys.

While I agree it's detrimental for the players to whine about officiating (especially when the ball is still in play), I think it's part of the job description for coaches to whine about officiating, all the best ones did. I remember stories about how Phil Jackson would send tapes and hold mini-press conferences about calls and non-calls during series.

I agree...I have no problem with RA doing what he did...Larry Brown talks about the officiating and I actually believe the league listens...we all know about what Mark Cuban does so why not...I don't believe it to be whining in this context...plus its not like RA has a reputation for constantly constantly getting on the refs during or after the game...he doesn't make a habit of sending tapes to the league like others have done *coughCubancough*...again I really don't see it as being a big deal...

and that quote about Reggie Evans is an absolute CLASSIC..hilarious!

Did anyone watch the last Rockets and Mavs game? Cuban sent that tape in of the Rockets setting illegal picks and the refs listened. Rockets / Yao got killed by the refs on illegal picks and the Mavs won the game. The outcome could of been a lot different if the Mavs didn't get those 3 or 4 crucial calls and Yao wasn't in "fowl" trouble.

It does seem lame to send in tapes, but I'll admit it works... I guess we'll see for sure tonight.

The true problem is that coaches on every team feel they have to do this. I think it speaks volumes for the level of poor officiating in the NBA. It is probably one of the fastest games in pro sports and it also seems to have the worst officiating.

We have all seen the PJ playbook of knocking refs in a game. Funny how the next game the calls would then favor his teams.

NBA refs are by far the worst in all sports. In some sense it does ruin the credibility of the league and game. Just because a player has 10 years of experience doesn't mean he gets to get away with extra pushing/shoving and so on. I hate the "He hasn't earned his spot to get calls" theory.

I don't agree with the sending the tape in because honestly I doubt it makes any difference. The problem with the Kings is we (being honest here) are known for being a bunch of cry babies after every call. It doesn't really help the cause any when RA is sitting on the sidelines complaining and making his faces and hand jesters after every single call.

I am an RA guy just calling it how I see it.

I have to admit that I didn't like seeing this in the paper. It does seem whiney. (Teams send tapes about officiating all the time, it just isn't usually so public.) However, as many have posted here, it does seem to hava an effect. If it does, why wouldn't a coach do it? Also, I'd rather have the coach do it for the team, than have the players doing it on the court. What we don't know, is maybe the players appreciate it when their coach stands up for them. I suspect they do.

I've never be able to understand why they can't just call the game the same for everyone. It really does ruin the legitimacy of the game. If a guy is a great player, doesn't almost make him impossible to stop if you're alowwing him to take 10 steps or calling a foul everytime someone looks at him the wrong way?

As for it being lame or too "whiney" for what RA is doing, ask yourself this question:

Would you rather the Kings be a bunch of whiney crybabies and win or would you rather they be respectful and lose?

This is the NBA, I say win at all costs.

Yao doesn't know how to set an honest screen.

As to the Adelman situation, as I see it, he only has three choices. 1) Forget about the officiating, whine, and lose. 2) Declare war and instruct his players to hurt some people (I assume you fellas think this is the manly thing to do). or, 3) Try to get the referees to do their job, play the game properly, and win without further injuries and suspensions. I think the prudent approach is (3).

No. The obvious choice is 4) suck it up, play hard, and quit the whining.

^yeah thats what the PLAYERS have to do and I would definetly agree with that BUT I think RA should do his job too and I personally think this is part of it

Adelman hasn't whined at the officials. He took the approved and judicious path of submitting his concerns to the league. I don't see how, especially when he so rarely uses that method, it's something he should be chastized for.

It's NOT whining if something wrong is going on and you attempt to get it corrected. If my neighbor allows his pit bull to run loose, which is against the leash laws, and the dog continually harasses me, is it whining if I report it?

exactly I agree :D

The ref must not have got around to looking at those tapes, because the Sonics (especially Jerome James) are still getting away with hacks.

Well, its well-timed to try to get that all important edge in Game 4 where you figure maybe just a few little things might turn it, and the sad part is that in the NBA the tactic sometimes works. Still rememeber in 2000 when we pressed the Lakers to a deciding Game 5 largely on the basis of Webb playing huge help defense on Shaq and repeatedly swooping over to block his shots in Gms 3 and 4 in Sacto. Well, PJ whines to the league about it being illegal defense before Gm 5. And sure enough on one of the first possessions of the game the refs call an illegal defense on Webb trying to help, and it changed the whole tenor of the game, and the series.

In fact they called the first illegal defense on AC Green and then they called on Webb.
