You know, this is just silly. Geoff Petrie has been very busy and I'm pretty sure he would have made the best deal possible. I'd like to know - honestly - how you know that we could have made the other deal. I'd be especially interested in knowing - in via PM - who your sources are for this incredible bit of information.

Actually, what's silly is swallowing everything just because something happened. Why not look at what happened? It's ridiculous. The best deal is not always the right deal. The Miller/Salmons deal was a farce, and it's obvious more could have been gotten for Salmons on his own. If Gooden/Nocioni is the best deal you can get, you hang up. That deal was made simply to save a few dollars for the Maloofs, not for the good of the franchise. And Geoff saying he likes what Nocioni brings going forward? That is nothing short of absolute delusion. If he actually believes that, then this franchise has got a serious problem. There's a challenged person running the show.

I'd like to know where I said I have a source? All I know is that if you look in the personnel forum, pretty much nobody wanted the above to go down. It's that ridiculous. I was not expecting a star, I was not expecting any of that. The least you can get for Salmons and Miller is a first rounder. How did he come away without one?

I'm sorry if that sounds hostile but at some point it just gets ridiculous. People have been wanting Petrie to blow up the clown, make major concessions to rebuilding, etc.

HE DID IT!

You don't sound hostile, everyone feels differently. What's ridiculous to you makes perfect sense to me. In fact, what Petrie did is crazy. At the very least he managed to get Diogu and McCants (both expirings which leads me to believe its more for cost cutting than anything else).

I disagree that he made concessions towards rebuilding. After all these trades he doesn't manage to nab ONE first round pick? In fact, he gives away two 2nd rounders. Great formula for rebuilding!

And he did it despite a floundering economy and dreadful scenario for at least half of the teams in the NBA.

Actually, all the moves tell us is that the Kings are no less prone to the economic situation than anyone else. These deals were to save a few dollars for the owners. Hard to believe anything else considering that there is no other logic behind them.

I know it's fashionable to dump on Petrie and act as though a bunch of arm-chair GMs could do better but, with the notable and probably inevitable exception of Kenny Thomas, Petrie has moved all the junk parts and aging veterans and gotten a lot of valuable expirings in return. This frees him up to do a lot more finagling at draft time and over the summer.

Those are good things.

Nope, don't try and pull that one on me. I've always given Petrie a fair shot, but there comes a time when after so many questionable moves, it's not insane to question whether he's still capable. Certainly heading in the wrong direction. Of course, he's not going to get canned since he's saved some money short term for the Maloofs.

And respectfully, I think there are a select few on this board alone who could do a considerably better job. Just because he's the one making the calls doesn't mean no one else could do a job, at least as crappy. All you need is good basketball knowledge, a structured plan and direction. Also, some guts would come in handy.

I'm with you VF. The Kings were going nowhere fast, and needed a long term approach. Finally Geoffe did something, and moved half the roster we thought was too dreadful to trade. That is a good thing.

I like the Minnesoa trade, and the Bulls trade seams even to me as Salmons = Nocioni salary wise. Salmon's scoring came at a detriment to the team, and this should improve the ball movement a lot, and there were questions about his leadership and drive. I feel that Nocioni is as good a defender as Salmons, with his toughness and strength as his trump card. It will be interesting to see Francisco and Andres play together. Additionally, I belive all of this movement helped the salary situation with all of the expiring contracts that were moved here.

I'm not happy that we didn't get any draft picks (yet), but I think this is a step in the right direction. If we had done this 2-3 seasons ago we'd be much closer to where we want to be, but now we're fully commited to the rebuild. No temptations to do anything but improve the players with a long term Kings future. Yes, we'll be in the lottery for a few more years but we now have open roster spots coming into next season to plug those guys in and develop them right away.

The best deal is not always the right deal.

You said it...The best deal isn't always the right deal. Any questions??

Again, I'm glad we don't have a GM who goes by message boards..

You are looking at the present. To see the benefit of grabbing 5 to 6 expirings, you have to look at the Offseaon.

If this were the case... we'd be the one's making the phone calls - not spending hours on a message board..

Ya, because I was saying he should come check out what we think before he makes a move!

I take it you're glad we have a GM who thinks 29 year old overpaid players are good going forward, though?

Expirings are nice and dandy when you can sign someone with the cap space. Apart from Sessions, who else is going to be on the market? You can bet Sessions won't be leaving the Bucks to come to the Kings.

BTW, I'm not looking at the present. That's why the deals don't make any sense.

Your last part is just ignorant. It's just naieve to think that because Geoff is the GM he is some sort of basketball genius. He's proven time and time again that he's not.

You can argue and debate all you like, Dime Dropper, but please do not start making it personal. There is absolutely NO NEED to toss in the insults. Please keep them out in the future, okay?

Thanks ever so...

Since Kings are lighting dynamite to as much of the heap that will ignite why not while we're at it...

Blow up! "Peaches" Napear and Angela Tsai:eek: (G-Man and Jerry Reynold's can stay for has long they want since retirement is not all that far off for those two respectable seniors) BOOM!!

Blow up! Slamson - somehow his act seems now rather boring and stuck in ancient past, needing at least a face lift if not a short fuse:o) BLAM!!

Blow up! High ticket prices, concessions, etc. across the board - return to prices like around late 80's to mid-90's when I and so many other routinely attended games down close to the action even though product on the floor was horrible - well, not this horrible!:( BUST!!

Blow up! Idea Maloof's are out in Sacramento community among real everyday fans (not just season tix holders), actually have REGULAR news conferences, radio/TV appearances - all stuff Joe and Gavin said they "would be doing" - but rarely did if at all. POOF!!

Yes! I am all for this! :D:D:D

Yeah, we should have at least gotten a first rounder out of all this (can you imagine us with three first rounders?) But I am glad that we made some moves. I'm not ecstatic about the moves we made, but I do think it's a step in the right direction. I'd like to see Nocioni get moved next season, because that's a bad contract to be saddled with while you're working on a rebuild.

You call him (or really his comments) silly and ridiculous, he calls yours ignorant and naive. Seems fair to me.

I referred to his comments. He was making it personal between himself and another poster. That's what I was talking about. If you have further questions, we can dance via PM...again.

I don't, but part of me almost wishes I did. Ah, the good ole days...

Yep -- that still annoys me. there was interest there. That whole Chicago mess...there were other opportunities. I'm wondering if we were so desperate to get rid of Brad, adn the rest of the league so uninterested in the jumpshooting non-defense playing center that we so cherished, that we basically burned up Salmons just to get Brad gone.

That proves it's all about the cash. The whole thing saves the Maloofs $ and proves nothing about their FA intentions for the future.

There are so many welcome, thank-you, good-by threads and some then say, "nope that fell through."

Would someone make an updated list of who we got and who is gone. Don't bother to say who was traded for who. I can't keep up with all that. Please! Who is here and who is gone.

Wait!! What time is the deadline today? Please wait until that is past. Too much happening. Too fast.

Ack!!! :o

I am pretty sure this is the current team.

PG - Beno Udrih, Bobby Jackson, Will Solomon

SG - Kevin Martin, Rashad McCants

SF - Andres Nocioni, Francisco Garcia, Donte Greene, Cedric Simmons

PF - Jason Thompson, Drew Gooden, Ike Diogu, Kenny Thomas

C - Spencer Hawes, Calvin Booth

On contract for next season:

PG - Beno Udrih

SG - Kevin Martin

SF - Andres Nocioni, Francisco Garcia, Donte Greene

PF - Jason Thompson, Kenny Thomas

C - Spencer Hawes

FYI - There are now several threads with more current information. As the dust is starting to settle, we're going to start closing a few threads just to keep discussions from being duplicative.

Hey, one thing? Nobody can say this trade deadline day was boring...

:)
