Dime Dropper
All-Star
You know, this is just silly. Geoff Petrie has been very busy and I'm pretty sure he would have made the best deal possible. I'd like to know - honestly - how you know that we could have made the other deal. I'd be especially interested in knowing - in via PM - who your sources are for this incredible bit of information.
Actually, what's silly is swallowing everything just because something happened. Why not look at what happened? It's ridiculous. The best deal is not always the right deal. The Miller/Salmons deal was a farce, and it's obvious more could have been gotten for Salmons on his own. If Gooden/Nocioni is the best deal you can get, you hang up. That deal was made simply to save a few dollars for the Maloofs, not for the good of the franchise. And Geoff saying he likes what Nocioni brings going forward? That is nothing short of absolute delusion. If he actually believes that, then this franchise has got a serious problem. There's a challenged person running the show.
I'd like to know where I said I have a source? All I know is that if you look in the personnel forum, pretty much nobody wanted the above to go down. It's that ridiculous. I was not expecting a star, I was not expecting any of that. The least you can get for Salmons and Miller is a first rounder. How did he come away without one?

I'm sorry if that sounds hostile but at some point it just gets ridiculous. People have been wanting Petrie to blow up the clown, make major concessions to rebuilding, etc.
HE DID IT!
You don't sound hostile, everyone feels differently. What's ridiculous to you makes perfect sense to me. In fact, what Petrie did is crazy. At the very least he managed to get Diogu and McCants (both expirings which leads me to believe its more for cost cutting than anything else).
I disagree that he made concessions towards rebuilding. After all these trades he doesn't manage to nab ONE first round pick? In fact, he gives away two 2nd rounders. Great formula for rebuilding!
And he did it despite a floundering economy and dreadful scenario for at least half of the teams in the NBA.
Actually, all the moves tell us is that the Kings are no less prone to the economic situation than anyone else. These deals were to save a few dollars for the owners. Hard to believe anything else considering that there is no other logic behind them.
I know it's fashionable to dump on Petrie and act as though a bunch of arm-chair GMs could do better but, with the notable and probably inevitable exception of Kenny Thomas, Petrie has moved all the junk parts and aging veterans and gotten a lot of valuable expirings in return. This frees him up to do a lot more finagling at draft time and over the summer.
Those are good things.
Nope, don't try and pull that one on me. I've always given Petrie a fair shot, but there comes a time when after so many questionable moves, it's not insane to question whether he's still capable. Certainly heading in the wrong direction. Of course, he's not going to get canned since he's saved some money short term for the Maloofs.
And respectfully, I think there are a select few on this board alone who could do a considerably better job. Just because he's the one making the calls doesn't mean no one else could do a job, at least as crappy. All you need is good basketball knowledge, a structured plan and direction. Also, some guts would come in handy.
