A statistical look into the trade...

Im am a huge Webber fan but you have to put emotions aside, this was a buisness deal that took place. The NBA is a buisness and we a meerely spectators. I know it hurt a lot of you and probably the majority of the Kings Nation but now is the time were we, as well as the other Kings cant let this trade hold us down and cloud our other expectations and goals for this season.

First of all...

Games with Chris Webber Playing:

Brad Miller: 14.3 pts, 8.9 reb, 3.8 ast (45 games)
Mike Bibby: 18.8 pts, 4.4 reb, 6.0 ast (45 games)
Peja Stojakovic: 19.0 pts, 4.0 reb, 1.8 ast (41 games)

Games without Chris Webber Playing:
Brad Miller: 23.8 pts, 10.6 reb, 4.3 ast (8 games)
Mike Bibby: 20.3 pts, 4.6 reb, 7.2 ast (8 games)
Peja Stojakovic: 25.7 pts, 5.7 reb, 1.7 ast (4 games)

Note: Peja and Chris both missed a few games in early Jan together, that is why Brad and Mike have more games without CWebb.

Change in team outlook:
+17.7 pts, +3.8 reb, +1.6ast from these 3 players.

Webbers 2004 stats:
21.3 pts, 9.7 reb, 5.5 ast in 46 games

Im not sure how this will all turn out, but as it has played out so far this season, when Webber is out, those 3 play significantly better. Also, if you can think back to last season around this time... Peja was lighting things up, untill Webber came back.

Dont get me wrong, I am not saying the trade was good or that Webber was a cancer, etc, I am only showing you all some stats... what you think of it is up to you.

thanks bibby_is_clutch. point well taken. all play significantly better without webber

My only point with this thread is to show some kind of hope that we can play well the rest of the season... Im not giving up on the season... Im a Kings fan and Its not over till we get eliminated.

When you remove a big time scorer who takes shots of course other guys are going to have better stats. If you get less shots your going to score less. None of the Assists or Rebounding numbers more than make up for that. Kenny is going to take shots too, albeit not as many as Webber.

indeed, but can someone post the team outlook as far as our rebounding and blocked shots. like will our rebounding and blocked shots will be +3.5, +1.0 etc. ? with these new big bodies hopefully our team defense and rebounding WILL improve.

compleately wrong interpretation of a well intentioned post in which some effort and thought was put

:) If you all remember, we had the best record in the league last year at the all star break and with out Webber. I'm not saying that losing webber is going to be tough, what I am saying is I think that we are a more athletic team, move the ball better with out Webber on the floor. The record speaks for itself. The game tonight will be a tough one. I think in the long run, this will work out for the Kings. Also, I don't think GP is finished. Maybe not today, but there will be more moves coming. We addressed some issues with rebounding and toughness inside with this trade.

Guys, we don't have the SAME team as last year minus Webber. That's the problem I'm having. If Bobby was still healthy and Vlade was still here then you definitely have a great argument for the trade. But face the facts, Vlade is probally in retirement home at the end of the year and Bobby is out for the rest of the year. We were awesome with those 2 playing but without them ...who knows.

I think that anyone who is not familiar with Kenny Thomas will be pleasantly surprised with him. I have seen him close up ever since his days at New Mexico and he is very quick, very athletic and is a good 15-18 ft. jump shooter. He averaged a double double last year and if he can do that with the Kings then all is not lost. If Thomas was not part of this deal then I would have been completely down on the trade, but I really think that he will give this team a lift although he can't fill Webb's shoes, he will provide something this team has lacked for some time now.

When AI was out last season due to injuries, wasn't Kenny Thomas the guy that was carrying the team for that period? I think they went on a winning streak without AI. It was because of Kenny (and perhaps a few of his teammates) that last season, there was talks in Philly wanting to trade AI.

Thomas was 1 of 11 players last year to average a double double...not too bad considering he wasn't given many opportunities to score playing with AI. I'm telling you...if he can average 10 and 10 and 3-4 assists, which I'm sure he will, then the Kings may just be a better team in the long run.

Kenny also has had injury problems........missed around 10 games last year. Most players when there star is gone step up. b/c if your next in line you have to step up. someone needs to take the shots. doesn't mean the team is better off. i bet kobe scored alot more with Shaq out, but you still want Shaq on the court, you know what I'm saying. I bet Manu and Parker score and do whatever better without Duncan but you still want him in. Kobe is "statistically better" this year right, does that mean his team is winning.

Sure he stepped up when AI was down, but to average 10 and 10 for an entire season ain't too bad. I'm not saying that Thomas is the answer to the Kings problems, but that I think Kings fans will be pleased with him.

Let's also not forget that although our memory of Corliss isn't the best, he was the 6th man of the year not too long ago and with him and a healthy Bobby coming off the bench our second unit is much better than it has been.

Healthy Bobby, he is one of my favorite players, no doubt. But healthy-bobby is like an oxy-moron the last two years and I'm very sad to say that.
