First off, I will flat out admit that Jimmer has brought me to your board. If my“BYU-blue-jimmer-stained-glasses” seem to be why I have my perspective on your team than go ahead and discredit me. I don’t pretend to be an avid Kings fanbut I like following Jimmer after his storied career at BYU.
I don’t knowif anyone else thinks this or if this is just my “biased” perspective, but Ithink the Kings have built one of the weirdest teams I have ever seen. It’s notthat they don’t have good players, but it seems that so many of these playerscould be better on different teams. Youhave Thornton, Tyreke, Jimmer and IT all running around out there trying tofigure out who should take the ball up the court, who should facilitate the offense, and who should be “ the guy.” Well, I’ll tell you what, each one of theseplayers could be “the guy.” SometimesSmart will put Thornton, Jimmer, and IT out there at the same time. There isjust no way you can get any kind of lasting chemistry out of that. If you lookat the best teams in the NBA, their players have defined roles; LA, Boston, SA,OKC, Chicago. In fact, Lebron to a lesser degree (because he is Lebron) isstruggling in the same kind of messed up team. You can’t win games when youhave players who don’t feel comfortable in their roles or who don’t know them. The Kings need to decide if they want Tyreke to be their guy, IT to be theirGuy, Jimmer to be their guy, or Thornton to be their guy. I will admit that youcan keep 2 or even three of these players and still be OK, but they CAN’T be onthe floor together. What is funny about this whole situation is the Kings couldbe a VERY good team, or at least a playoff caliber team without shopping forbig time players. The Kings already have the hardest pieces to find. Greatgaurds, and awesome post. Think about how many teams in the league would killfor a post as good as cousins and a point as good as Tyreke. They just need to make a decision on which guardsthey want and bring in some role players to work around their ball dominate guards.
I will evensay this, maybe IT is a better player than Jimmer. Maybe that’s true. But theKings need to quit wasting Jimmer’s time by making him an undersized shootingguard. I am honestly somewhat surprised at how well he has adjusted to being ashooting guard. Jimmer shoots his best off the dribble, running the pick androll ect…I am actually surprised the 6-foot ball dominate guard has adjusted tospoting up and relying on the ball to get to him quick enough to get the shotoff instead of creating the space himself.
I understandthat the Kings are not going to make IT or Jimmer their guy right away. But whyare they trying to prepare two POINT GUARDS for their future? Something needsto happen this offseason. The kings have to make a decision on who runs theteam. Maybe that will never happen until the Kings get a coach who believes inhaving defined roles in the 1,2,3,4,5 system. Not the 1,1,1,4,5 system.
