A conundrum...

Here's my conundrum. Douby is not as good of a dribbler or as good of a passer as Salmons and Garcia. So why does the offense seem to flow better when he's on the floor? Discuss.

One guess is that I believe he is beginning to develop better court vision. Sometimes Salmons and Garcia are more intent on getting their shot, so they over dribble. Douby may not be as good a dribbler, but I have noticed him passing the ball better lately. He is busier looking for an open man. Just a thought.

Not a bad thought, since neither Salmons nor Garcia seem to look for the open man oince they get going. Garcia actually seems to have better court vision then the other two, but sometimes loses that in the whole "I have the ball" thing.

I really felt that Salmons was trying to do too much. Like he'd just hold the ball on the 3 pt line faking for 7 seconds then drive, spin and shoot a bad fadeaway. And on the break he seems to not pass either

Is it just me or is Douby losing about 2-3 assists per game because people can't finish? He is really starting to make some good plays but guys either fumble the pass or aren't paying attention.

Oh yeah, I have totally noticed this about Cisco, but that's just who he is, he definitely looks to create more for himself than anyone else, and I guess with him developing his defense more, can be a little more tolerable in the end. He'll learn, in time, hopefully to develop more of when to create for yourself, and take smart shots and not forced ones.

Salmons kept us in the game tonight at the end the 4th. As far as I'm concerned He can take it to the rack whenever he feels confident. He either knocks down the shot or gets to the line.. All in all I'm impressed with Salmons game this year.

My own personal feeling on this is that you can't really have Salmons and Garcia on the floor together because 1) they're not point guards and 2) they hold the ball way too long. Douby definitely took some ill-advised shots, but when he gets the ball he does something with it, whether that's creating a shot or giving up the ball.

With Salmons and Garcia it's dribble dribble dribble dribble dribble... I mean, there was one possession where Garcia basically had the ball for the entire 24 second shot clock and then made a prayer of a long jump shot. To me it makes at least some sense when Salmons is doing this -- Salmons can at least create his own shot or create shots for others, and he's probably the best person on the team at getting a good look when the team really needs one.

When Garcia tries to do this dribble dribble dribble stuff he inevitably shoots some off balance jump shot that he may or may not make. He's much better at scrappy points rather than trying to create his shot -- it's not his game. He needs to focus on getting other people shots, but for whatever reason he think she needs to create for himself.

And when you have five guys looking only for their own shot you have games with 6 assists and 13 turnovers...

Valid observation. I think part of the situation may be that Douby falt runs the ball up court and immediatly looks for a scoring option or a pass for a scoring option. While Salmons, Cisco and even Green move the ball quickly but more carefully then read the floor and call a set (ala traditional PG) What Douby is acomplising is exploiting the Kings advantage in transition (except against great transition D teams like SA) but there is little or no set play involved so if the shot does not go then the offense is disorganized. So when the sets called by Cisco or Salmons break down or the shot does not go the offense is set and everyone knows what they need to do making recovery more possible.

It's just this kind of thing that is keeping Douby interesting as a potential back up PG. IF the guys gel and lear to read eachother like the bench mob of old... then having a spark plug PG and fast paced bench come in and puch the tempo could be a very good thing.

Cisco moves the ball quickly but more carefully? Are we really talking about the same player? One of Garcia's BIGGEST faults is he plays too quickly and without the control he needs to maintain, especially when the pace of the game has picked up.

I noticed that, don't pass to Moore or KT...they can't catch lol.

Douby had an excellent pass to Moore who was directly under the basket and had he caught it, it would of been an easy lay up or dunk.

I did not say he shoots more wiesly or even passes more carefully simply that he is calling plays and comared to Douby he is taking more time before innitating. (Hence his constatn dribbling) I have no idea if he evne passes MORE than Douby does but his passes come AFTER the offense is set. Douby for beter or worse makes snap decisions the second he crosses the line.

I just finished watching the home opener again, and my biggest complaint about Garcia is that once he gets his hands on the ball, especially when the game is uptempo, he doesn't look around for his teammates. He dribbles, he tries to fake, he draws the defense and then tries to take impossible shots.

On the other hand, I noticed several times - as I was actually looking for it - that Douby actually gets the ball moving much better than Garcia. Ball movement and spacing have always been two of our problems; I'd rather have Douby at the point as he initiates good ball movement than Garcia, who has a tendency (and I love his heart for it) to want to do whatever it takes to get himself into position to help the team.

Just my two cents and an observation...

:)

Quincy is shooting .350 on the season and averaging 1.0 assist to 1.4TO in his 22min. Give you a hint whether I think it is for better or for worse. ;)

Bottom line for me is that both Garcia and Douby have a lot of potential - AND they can certainly get the team and the crowd energized. Give them some definition to their roles and I'll be pretty happy with both of them.
