Point #1)
Over the years I've always been hesitant whenever there was talk of firing adolf adelman. it was always logical to counter his firing by asking "who would you rather have instead?" or "we are pretty damn good as it is" after watching up until this point in the season, i really think its time now for not only a coaching change, but an entire PHILOSOPHY and SYSTEM change. The high post offense worked so smoothly before (but not completely smoothly or else sac would have a ring) b/c we had 2 freaks of nature at the 4 and 5. Webb & Vlade are two of the greatest passing big men ever. No one can argue how much Vlade helped Peja's game. And with those two bigs, and with bibby and peja hot from outside, and with dchrist in his prime doing a little bit of everything, along with a bona fide bench, thats why we were what we were (A potent offensive/passing team with not nearly as great a defense that at one point should have won it all but ran in to shaq/koba like the jazz ran into his airness). But what we are now is no where near that. If you are a big, then play down low where the damn bigs are. And any player who isn't athletic, doesn't play hard nosed D, and have some nuts to play in the clutch is expendable. And that is on Petrie too, no matter how great some of his moves up until this point have been.
Point #2)
Miller and Reef are above average passing big men but not the same as before. Reef is a top FG% player who excels unbelievably down low. Why can't we get him more than the 10-11 shots per game he is averaging? Remember the nights of turmoil watching Webber take and brick mid range shot after shot and not post up? Btw, Webb is shooting 43% this year. And Brand is avg over 17 shots per game and he plays with Sam I Am and Mobley. Reef should get the same focus in our system that Webb had. Minimum 4-5 more shots per game when he comes back healthly. His skill level down low demands it.
Point #3)
As much as I like watching a hot Bibby shoot, I am not comfortable with a point guard leading my team in shots per game and points per game. Its almost to the point where we're watching a more pure shooting marbury. Is it just me or has his game evolved along with his reputation as being the Ice Man in the Clutch? I like Bibby, but not a Bibby I have to rely on to lead my team in shots and scoring while playing no defense. Honestly, for the money and the D, I'd almost rather have an Earl Watson type as an example and use the money to beef up the bench.
Point #4)
Its difficult for me to be too hard this year on francisco and martin. neither overall has really showed me anything to believe they are going to be great let alone good players in the league. martin's breakout games against so-so teams do not impress me yet. His 3FG% is repugnant. So is his form. And same with Francisco. But they are young. So I will give them time. But I also don't like them playing in front of Corliss and Skinner. And this here is what goes back to my first point. Any system that can't find a way to use a Skinner type (an athletic energetic big who can play D) is a horrible system. And any coach that allowes francisco and martin to shoot as many 3s as they do with the kind of % they have is not coaching right. you think pop in sa would go for that?
Point #5)
jason hart is really really average. he can't shoot. he doesn't run he offense smoothly. people say he plays tough hard nosed d but is he really? i seem him foul a lot trying to swipe for steals and body other pgs up. but thats really it. he can't take it to the rack, create, or finish. and he's not athletic. not a good backup pg.
Point #6)
i loved peja's game for a long tim. before vlade left. when webb was injured. when he was unstoppable. when i thought his game was gonna continue to evolve. when him and dirk were talked about in the same sentence about the euro super starts. its not even close anymore. he shoot barely above 40% from the field. he has not post up game. he has no, i am gonna take this ball and dunk it over you dome like dirk does. he cant rebound, hes not that great of a passer, his only positives this year are better than career 3FG% and another great year from the line. other than ocassionally doing a decent job defending, he's really hurting the team while playing a lot of minutes and taking a lot of shots that i already mentioned some of should go to reef. to me, you gotta trade him for something good if you can. artest at the amount he makes is not a big risk. if you are worried about artest as a cancer, then you gotta try to package peja with one of the philly 3 and either martin, francisco, hart for SOMETHING MORE SOLID. I don't know what, but i think thats something petrie has got to consider.
Point #7)
Bonzi is solid. He brings to this team what we lacked for a long time. Low post game, toughness, and rebounding. Now you can argue that a high post offense will probably decrease the amount of off rebounds from your bigs. But the fact that reef, bmiller, and peja combine for 19 rebounds a game as your starting 3 frontcourt players is a problem. what bonzi brings every night is exactly what the kings needs.
Point #8
BMiller is good, but pairing him with Reef is not good. Reef is skilled and somewhat athletic but only a decent rebounder for a power forward. Miller is not athletic and playing in the high post offense is not going to help is off rebounding numbers. We always see other teams easily getting their off rebounds. How come we can't hurt teams the same way. So again, change the system, and at the same time maybe package miller in a trade that nets you a more athletic big man if you can. you're telling me there isn't a team out there that would like 1 or 2 from bibby/miller/peja along with 1 of the philly guys and maybe 1 from martin/garcia/hart and in return give us things we need from a big man, a point guard, and a solid piece from the bench?
