But why do they call him John the baptist?
In Collins' younger days, he was known more for dunking. The story goes that some fan said that Collins would "baptize" dudes with his dunks, so he gave Collins the nickname. Collins liked it, so it stuck.

Also, his college mascot was the Demon Deacons and his initials are JC... lotsa religious imagery.

Probably not a whole lot. Yes, he's finally getting a look, but he's also #1 in a dearth of options. Killian Hayes is basically the only other option, unless you're going to ask Monk to be PG.

The Kings are almost certainly going to be picking top-8. Of those top 8 prospects, you're going to be looking at grooming 5 or maybe 6 of those guys as your future primary ballhandler. So there's something like a 75% chance that any inroads Carter has made in the PG progression for the Kings will be immediately undermined by the draft.

The good thing is this time Carter got a real chance to stomp out his retread competition and he's pretty much done just that. Carter has looked like the combo guard he is and that's basically how they're playing him so if there is a problem, it's because the Kings still don't have a concept of how to make very easily workable pieces work in unison.
