3-point shooting rule

Peja

Bench
I heard on the beggining of the season that from next year(2005/06) 3 point shots will count just in last 5 minutes, and line will be moved to 7,24?!That means you can shot from half of court and it will count as 2 points till the 43. minute of the game. Also,I heard that this rule is used in college basketball this year as a test before they put it into NBA?Is that still on the mend?
I hope it isn't because that would be Peja's nightmare :D

No, was just some stupid idea they were experimenting with down in the NBDL. Hard to se sucha weird and radical rule actually getting implemented in the NBA though.

I'm glad, it sounds like some wacky game show bonus-round gimmick.

"Oh he's behind the line... and there's the 5 minute mark! You win a new car!"

Probably did that in the NBDL to create incentive for their players to learn the lost art of the mid-range jump shot.

Or perhaps - GASP - to actually instill the concept of team play and passing to the open man instead of simply crossing the line and jacking up the first possible shot.

;)

Possibly one of the most ridiculous rules ever thought of. Some players (Peja, Korver, etc) are known for their 3's. This would ruin the game of basketball. Dont see it happening and thats a good thing.

^^ funny, the same was said when the 3 pt was first started in the NBA, to much a premium on the outside and not enough in the paint.
