Probably the funniest story ever is that 2 Chainz requested permission to sample his song The Ole Dope Peddler in 2012 and this was his response: "As sole copyright owner of 'The Old Dope Peddler', I grant you motherf*****s permission to do this. Please give my regards to Mr. Chainz, or may I call him 2?"

At some point he put his whole catalog into public domain so others could do the same.

Wow. I figured he'd been gone for a long time. RIP.

Should have called him T**y Boi.

Oof. Sandberg, Dawson, Grace, Dunston was peak baseball fandom for me when all the games were on WGN. Iowa might as well be part of Chicago when it comes to Cubs fandom and anyone in my age range remembers how good of a player Ryno was.

I got around to sharing that on Facebook before dinner ... rough week for Gen-Xers - if you grew up in the 80s and liked sports, music, tv? Grim Reaper got you covered.

I was not a big Cubs fan but this was back in the day when we could watch Giants and A's on the RSNs and then Braves & Cubs via superstation. I'm sure one of the NY teams was available but you know me. lol. I'm sure I had my fair share of Sandberg's baseball cards.

RIP Ryno.

Not a Cubbies fan by any stretch of the imagination, but man...Ryne Sandberg was definitely one of those who introduced me to the game of baseball, and made me enjoy the game of baseball.

Ryne Sandberg was one of many who was to me as it relates to the game of baseball what Hulk Hogan was to me as it relates to professional wrestling during the early years of my existence.

Jeez man, think you're having a bad year, first you get fired from the band you co-founded, then an SUV fails to yield and kills you on your motorcycle.

RIP Brent Hinds, Mastodon guitarist/co-founder, 51, motorcycle accident

Oh man. I really enjoyed their music over the years. Everyone loves Leviathan, but, for my money, Crack the Skye is where it's at.

Man...

Mastodon's first four records are just mint. Absolutely killer. The last four have been a mixed bag, and Brent's ouster from the band was probably a long time coming. The guy was a bit of a mess, and if you had told me he had passed away in a vehicular wreck in 2025, I would have assumed it was his fault. So awful that it was just the result of sheer inattention on the part of an SUV driver.

RIP.

Such an accomplished actor, filmmaker, philanthropist, and person.

Sheepishly, despite his much more prominent roles and films, he’ll live on forever for me as Bishop in Sneakers.

Sneakers is massively underrated, the perfect example of a high-level Hollywood confection, with an absolutely stacked cast that overcomes the seeming slightness of the material with sheer force of character. One of my favorite Redford films, along with the list of obvious all-timers that don't even need to be named. A huge loss. RIP.

Shockingly, the man’s last credited on-screen appearance was playing a crooked neo-Nazi congressman hellbent on toppling the constitution (like that would ever happen! Ha!) in Captain America and The Avengers.

His founding of Sundance forever proved a boon to independent filmmakers around the world and will probably forever do so. May he rest in peace.

That just makes me laugh about the stories my 11th grade English teacher told about Dustin Hoffman's extreme method approach to playing Willy Loman...
