06-07 NBA Most Improved

I know its really early to be doing this, but I just thought it would be cool to compare who we thought would be most improved at the beginning of the season, to who actually was at the end. Probably a lot of unexpected players... here are some of them I think have a chance at making it.

Kevin Martin- Everyone on here knows it. Starting SG on the Kings now, and will have tons of scoring opportunities from Bibby. Already calling a breakout season, 20 pts in 21 min last night.

J.R. Smith- We're finally going to get to see him play, after being benched by Byron Scott for almost all of last year. He should do well with Carmelo on his team.

Josh Howard- He has improved a ton over the offseason and should continue to get more playing time as he improves. He has been putting up some amazing numbers in the preseason, and I can see the same for him in the season.

Dwight Howard- He's just a monster. The magic are continuing to improve, and are building their franchise off him. He is up their among the leaders for double doubles, andI know he got some 20-20 games.

What are your predictions? I will add to the list if they have good explanations and I think it's a possibility.

dwight nor josh will win the award, or even be in the running, they had good years last year, theres no way they improve enough to win it. think about it brois upped about 10 pts, 4+ boards, and 4+ assists, and 10% higher fieldgoal percentage and almost 70 more blocks.

howard would have to average itleast 21, 8 and 5, which aint gonna happen

dwight would need to up to around 22, 15 and 4, and still neither josh or dwight would be close to the imprvements boris made. all in all boris upped his stats by 18 in the three main categories, no way josh or dwight can do that. obviously the award is not based or compared to boris, but it s resoaable assumption to make that they need to be pretty close.

kevin has a resonable shot, and c wil is definitley a good pick

Going to be hard for any of those players. None of them put up poor stats or played poorly. I'd be suprised to see a "Dwight Howard" make it as MIP. He'd have to improve to be a mega-stud.

Could be wrong, but I'd be suprised.

Martin averaged 10PPG and was coming on strong at the end of the season. He'd have to break 18-20PPG.

Dwight Howard was at 15 and 12. Pretty hard to MIP up. He'd have to go to 25 and 15 or something. He'd be a HUGE longshot. Same with Josh Howard.

I see it more likely that Shareef, Miller or Kenny Thomas than any of those guys.

shareef had good seasons in the past, the awrad is most improved player, not most improved player from last year, i defiitley dont think reef, miller, or kenny will be winnin the award

Erm, what?

This is a message board. People argue, discuss, evaluate, etc. I think you're being a little presumptuous when you say you'll add someone to the list if YOU think it's a possibility.

;)

BTW, I'm moving this to the NBA forum.

chris wilcox
my feeling about this guy is that his stellar play at the seasons end last yr came becasue of his contract yr... and now he has got his decent size contract, i get the feeling he's not putting 100% in, and i reckon he's stats will either stay the same as last yrs or drop off a little bit...

Darko has a decent shot, because, well, he has nowhere to go but up.
Add Telfair to the out of nowhere category...or else he'll cap ya.

Martin will get the minutes to increase his production, and will certainly get some looks if he continues to shoot well. Luke Ridnour could also make some noise.

It's all pure sausage at this point.

Sports Illustrated's NBA preview issue has picked Shaun Livingston as the guy they think will break out this year.

john salmons... maybe price, if he gets minutes behind bibby this season...

if mip stands for most injury prone and by break out we mean break down, yeah my candidate would be livingston as well.

by the way, livingston is one of those unreasonably hyped-up youngsters who in fact are clueless as to what they should do to become better basketball players.

Shaun Livingston is a safe bet for a break out year, not sure if that means MIP or not. Same with Martin. Both of these guys are coming into the season with high expectations from a lot of people.

Keep in mind possibly Sean May... but definitely also Sebastian Telfair. he never really had a chance to shine in portland with such a horrible team, but he is going to do much better on boston... last 2 preseason games: 21 pts 9 asts and then 21 pts 6 rebs.

someone told me the nba player that they thought would win the award and i thought he was right on the money, i just cant remember who it was... o ya what about jackie butler IF he gets playing time
