    Team Update

Overseas Update... There is only one regular season game in Euroleague before playoffs start. Tan's team is currently in 5th place, fighting for a play-off spot. Noticeably absent is Tan, who is no longer even listed on the roster. She is apparently in Chicago for the announcement of the...

Holding My Breath, Crossing My Fingers...

Count Down to Tuesday... Tuesday marks the first day a WNBA player can sign. The big questions for the Monarchs: Tan - why wasn't she cored? Does this mean she signed a max contract to stay here, or is something else in the works? Will the Monarchs sign Sam or another unrestricted FA, which...

Update on Sam Headline from today's Seattle Times: "Storm unlikely to keep Sam" "As many as five WNBA teams are ready to sign Storm forward Sheri Sam when contracts can be finalized Tuesday. According to sources, the Sacramento Monarchs are leading the race for the unrestricted free...

Holding My Breath, Crossing My Fingers...

HoopMatron, I think you are right. There has to be a deal in the works, and from the change of designated core players, it makes me think it's Ticha. There was a time I would have jumped at Svet, but I think she may be a risk with her propensity for injury. Holdsclaw is a risk of another...

Holding My Breath, Crossing My Fingers...

Hmmmm... From a Connecticut newspaper today, speaking about Taj MacWilliams-Franklin being named a core player (later in the article): "The league's other core players designated this season: Margo Dydek (San Antonio), Vickie Johnson (New York), Ticha Penicheiro (Sacramento), Yolanda Griffith...

Holding My Breath, Crossing My Fingers...

Sam is unrestricted, so unless she is designated a core player, she is free to sign anywhere. MBF, it makes sense you would have to designate core players before beginning negotiations, but I haven't seen that confirmed anywhere. I have tried to find a place where they would list the core...

Holding My Breath, Crossing My Fingers...

Luv 13, all I know is what I read in the paper! Whiz was quoted in the Bee saying he would core Yo and Tan. But I believe it was Hoopmatron who brought up the excellent point of why wouldn't you core Tan and Ticha, and then just offer Yo top salary and a two-year (or whatever she wanted to play)...

Holding My Breath, Crossing My Fingers...

I know the WNBA page has a list of restricted/unrestricted players, but the Bee article about possible trades said: "Besides Griffith and Smith, the Monarchs' free agents include Ruthie Bolton, Lady Grooms, Edna Campbell and Ticha Penicheiro. Forward DeMya Walker is a restricted free agent...

Sac Bee Story This Morning http://www.sacbee.com/content/sports/story/12041701p-12911776c.html Of interest: "The Monarchs plan to invite several international players - considered rookie free agents - to Sacramento for tryouts." This marks the first time we've really looked outside the...

Holding My Breath, Crossing My Fingers...

Just a reminder that under league rules, players can be offered contracts beginning tomorrow through Jan. 31. Feb. 1 is the first day of signing. The only given is that Coach Whiz has protected Yo and Tan, so they are each guaranteed the maximum salary of $89K, although he can sign and trade...

    2005 WNBA Schedule

I agree, some of this doesn't make sense, but I haven't given it a long look. I guess I was just so excited it was out! Also, are any of these pre-season games? I thought the season usually started Memorial weekend? Maybe they are trying to stretch the season a little longer and avoid those...

From the Sacramento Monarchs homepage: http://www.wnba.com/monarchs/news/overseas_update_050107.html Looks like Yo hasn't lost a beat, and Edna will play overseas.

    Youth movement looms for Monarchs

For those that wanted to see the numbers, I dug this information out: The team salary cap for 2005 is $673,000 (which is less than Shaq makes in two games, but let's not go there....) The maximum salary is $89,000 and the minimum is $31,200 for 3 or fewer years of experience, and $45,427 for 4...

    Youth movement looms for Monarchs

OK, now my head hurts! I''m going to have to go find my information on the CBA. Is there a maximum salary? I know there are minimums by years of play and draft order. With such a small cap, it averages apx. $61,000 per player. I think I remember reading the veteran minimum Ruthie took was around...

    Youth movement looms for Monarchs

OK, my first reaction is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! We were ONE game from going to the finals last year. We have a great core post with Tan and Yo. We have an adequate PG in Ticha. We need offensive power at the #2 and #3 positions. Last season Tan was our top scorer (15.8 ppg)...

    Kara Update

Nice article in the Bee on Kara: http://www.sacbee.com/content/sports/story/11754735p-12639644c.html From the article... Just in case you're worried about her staying in shape: "Lawson stays busy with four hours of workouts each day in addition to her full-time Kings broadcasting job."...
