I'm listening to Grant's show right now. I haven't listened in ages. Why are the callers so bad? It kind of makes our fans look like morons.....
It's pretty embarrassing. The difference in quality, knowledge etc. between callers into his show compared to say KNBR is night and day. Between that and him, i just don't listen anymore, except recently.

Are we just saying DA is clueless because we don't like the truth he speaks? He's generally a pretty reliable source.

Unfortunately a lot of his callers are Laker fans. We know how knowledgeable they can be on anything outside of Lala land....and even then they don't know crap about their own team's players prior to them coming to the fakers anyway.

He's uninformed. Plain and simple. And I love how you use the term 'generally' so loosely. Like 'usually'. And 'sometimes'. Or 'for the most part'.

Unless I'm missing something here, DA has a point.

Seattle is a bigger market, has more money, and has an arena deal in place.

Why would the BOG vote otherwise? Wouldn't the league make more money with a team in Seattle?

Yes to all. This is why we should be VERY concerned.

Didn't hear the show, but a few things.

One is the Sacramento Kings franchise, while shy on championships, is rich with history dating back to the Royals and to confuse it with the Sonics would be a disservice to both franchises.

Two, Seattle will get a franchise. Whether it is some other team that doesn't draw and fails to put up the Herculean efforts that Sac did to keep the team or an expansion team, it will happen.

On that note: Expansion team = huge money for all the owners, rather than record pay out to previous team owner. No doubt the expansion fees for the Sonics would be higher than some other less desirable city with no history. Secondly, because Sacramento did do so much and negotiate with the NBA in good faith and reach a deal, this is bad for other small markets when they get put in similar situations.

I'm not very hopeful at this point, but there's still plenty of ways for everyone to win.

they also have to compete for those $$ with the NFL, MLB and MLS. Yes it's a bigger market, but that doesn't mean they would get more advertising/TV.

And like has been stated, they would have to deal with the image of a small market team with an arena plan being shutout. That doesn't help them in the future for small markets.

All the same things could have been said about Anaheim.

And moving costs the league in a ton of ways. If this was a question of expand to Seattle or expanbd ot Sacramento? Sure. But its not. Its take a teamf rom Sacto and put it in seattle. Big black eye on the whole small market can compete thingie. Death of a 70yr old franchise. And loss of a major market -- do they gain one? Sure. But its not as if they are leaving Stockton. Oh, and in case D.A. missed it, Sacto had/has an arena eal too. one even sanctioend/partially designed by the NBA itself. It just needs an owner with enough money to execute it.

Moving long established teams form major markets always has a significant cost. Doubt its how Stern wants to go out either.

1) I completely agree with you, but the NBA was JUST in a lockout. They are thinking with their dollars, not their hearts. And though the Royals were once of the original NBA teams, hardly anyone knows about it. More often than not were used as an example of the celler-dweller franchise.

2) and 3) If an expansion team is an almighty cash cow, then why hasn't the league expanded already?

I'm trying so hard to be optimistic. In KJ we trust.

Thanks. It would have been even better if I hadn't merged it back into the wrong forum. I've moved it back to the "New Arena" arena. And made a note to myself not to make these kinds of moderating decisions while under the comforting fog of Dayquil. :p

Aldridge totally sounded clueless. Too bad Grant never really grilled him on the "won't sell to Burkle" point.

Aldridge, throughout this whole ordeal, just seems stuck on the angle of the Kings leaving Sacramento, which makes me question his motives and character. The whole "I know the Maloofs wont sell to Burkle" is just lack of journalistic integrity. You don't know ****. The Maloofs will sell where they see profit

Oklahoma was the 45th largest media market when the Sonics moved, so it's not always about money and TV deals.

I believe the Downtown Plaza proposal involves Greg VanDusen. His group would be purchasing, and I believe the owners of the Downtwon Plaza are on board with his group to have the Arena built there.
No, GVD's proposal involves renovating STA, JMA's(DTP owner) proposal involves building an arena at DTP. Van Dusen doesn't share KJ's, or anyone else's vision, and his 'investor group' still has yet to surface anything more than talk, and not players.

Yeah, it was posted here a couple of hours ago. I'm interested in how/why Napear is tweeting while he's broadcasting the game.
