Now this, THIS, calls for Girls.

What a wonderful turn of events this evening.

Boxscore

Stats: 27min 4pts (2-8, 0-2, 0-0) 1reb 1ast 1stl 0blk 1TO
Johnson ( F ) -- the only good thing that can be said about this performance is that he had some good hustle plays. Sans Boogie there were going to be opportuniites...and he took advantage of none of them. In fact on one game evidence it seemed that taking away the centerpiece took away his anchor, really on both ends. Got little accomplished on defense, where Metta scoffed at what we are calling our ace defennsive SF nowadays, and had to spot in minutes against the Lakers bigs, who are all long and weren't bothered either. On offense was both undisciplined and lost. With Reke jsut trying to move the ball and stay out of the way and IT mostly just playing for himself we had no leadership, and so JJ just did what came natural, which is to say over dribbled, repeatedly and randomly driving into trouble and trying to flip up hopeless attempts against length. I would like to give him a little credit for a nice hustle play in the mid 3rd where he out hustled Kobe for a long rebound and raced down for layup, but sans much effectiveness on defense, rebounding (whihc he is supposed to be good at but has not been so far) and with an offensive effort that was equal parts hopeless and clueless, I'm calling this an F. Did not help at all, and really looks lost out there. Worse than lost, disruptively random. In some places they have these people called "coaches" who will try to correct that by providiing instruction to their players. Odd concept, I know.

Julia Orayen -- who became an overnight sensation after becoming the star of a Mexican presidential debate for the dress she almost wore while working as a presenter.

Stats: 26min 11pts (5-9, 1-2, 0-0) 3reb 2ast 0stl 2blk 1TO
Outlaw ( C+ ) -- was thrown into an impossible situation, being called upon to start at "power" forward matched up against Pay Gasol, who has him by 3-4 inches and 30-40lbs. Had a couple of moments in that role early, getting a piece of Pau's first attempt against him, but generally sucked in all the ways he has sucked, missing jumpers and failign twice on one possession as Smart idiiotically drew up a play for him to score out fo the timeout -- we have to be the only team in the league that routinely draws up timeout pays for our worst scorer on the floor, rather than our best. Came out in the third, got completely annihilated in there as the Lakers, who in fact may have one or two of those "coach" people, realized they had a huge matchup edge and went to it until we had to take Outlaw out. But in the long late stretch of garbagetime began to pepper in those little jumpers that have not fallen all year. It was pointless, it didn't contribute to anythign important, but maybe, jsut maybe it can give him some confidence and competence going forward? Unfortunately more likely it will give Smart more "confidence" and he will continue to try to play all 12 guys 10min or more a piece because obviosuly Travis has earned it. Grade pulled in all directions, so I mushed it into the middle. Was whipped badly when it mattered, but really was in an impossible situation, played his best stretch of the season (which says nothing) when it didn't matter. Overall...C? And I'll add the + because its Travis Outlaw and he's rarely even this good anymore.

Joanna Krupa -- who apparently if you are a reality TV fan you may have seen before, as she has made the rounds on various shows.

Stats: 34min 15pts (4-10, 0-1, 7-9) 10reb 3ast 2stl 1blk 3TO
Thompson ( B ) -- was doing about as well as you could hope in there all alone for 3/4 of this game, and then in the space of about 3 minutes at the beginning of the 4th imploded, fouling himself out of the game on 3 unnecessary fouls without even so much as causing a nosebleed. And essentially that was when the illusion of a real game ended, and JT lost the "+" off his B. Was playing solidly in the early going -- if he had been our 2nd big playing at that level we would have been in good shape. Wasn't going to consistently score against Howard of course, but competed without accumulating too many silly fouls, broke up several passes meant for Howard alley oops and the like, made a nice high low pass to Hayes for a layup, and another to a streaking Reke on the break etc. The rebounding was, if not a big of an illusion, at least not as useful to us as it may have appeared. We got crushed on the glass and without JT crushed would have turned to embarrassment. But a lot of both JT and Hayes' boards were on often missed tip follow attempts and the like, while on our defensive glass the Lakers pounded away, grabbing nearly as many offensive boards as we grabbed defensive boards. Began to wobble his way into a pretty good statistical night agaisnt Hill in the 2nd, and stood in there with solid play in the 3rd as we began to fade. If not quite a rock, then at least our most consistent presence, and the one we couldn't be without against the Lakers' size. And then the 4th began, and abruptly JT lost his brains and composure, got a little loose and picked up silly fouls of the sort our young bigs have specialized in in recent years. Slapping a way a defender's hand, pushing Howard out of the way in a rebounding scrub etc. And that was good night for him and good night for us, and another guy for Smart to tongue lash on the bench.

Arianna Celeste -- I didn't know you could gain significant fame as a MMA ring girl, but apparently you can. Helps if you look like this.

Stats: 26min 9pts (4-9, 0-1, 1-2) 4reb 4ast 2stl 0blk 1TO
Evans ( C- ) -- the neuterification of Reke may have hit a crescendo here, and its getting very difficult to see how its going to work with this player and this coach. The grade here reflects the fact that this was a game in which we absolutely needed Reke to step up and fill the star shoes. And he didn't even try, as enormous a task as they might have been as a SG being defended by Kobe Bryant and Ron Artest all nght, backed up by Dwight Howard in the paint. Now of course an interesting way to approach it would have been to put Reke at PG, Thornton at SG, and have him tear up Steve Blake, but of course we know that doesn't happen anymore because we're far better off with the lowest rated offense in the league and Reke taking 9 shots a night. If it weren't for the need for him to step up, almost in defiance of his own coach, Reke's game here was actually quite mature, a team player willingly swinging the ball to the next guy, rarely forcing anything, willing to disapear into the background. Had one little burst in the early going, getting out on the break for several scores. Began to dive back and really help out on the defensive glass in the third, and had several good steals, although I didn't feel the overall defense was really of such aleel as to explain Kobe's down night. Solid roleplayer effort, and given full minutes in line with his new 12pt 5reb 5ast type of norm nights. Except this is not, or should not be, a roleplayer, and we needed a star tonight. So the grade drops for not stepping up, with the note that this grader's baleful eye is focused firmly on the sideline, and if Reke were to brain his coach tommorow with a frying pan, I'd argue it was self defense.

Gia Carangi -- often called the world's first supermodel in the late 70s/early 80s (when Cindy Crawford came up a few years later she was called "baby Gia"), this Philly stunner also pioneered the fashion model's tragic heroin fueled fall from grace and died as an early victim of the AIDS epidemic.

Stats: 23min 13pts (6-11, 1-3, 0-0) 2reb 1ast 0stl 0blk 0TO
Thomas ( B-) -- off to a fast start against the weak Lakers PG defense, which seemed to be our best chance at an advantage this game. Brielfly I got confused and thought this might be dynamic IT from last year. But started gunning and missing however, and aside from one nice behind the back flip on the break to JT you began to notice it was again all for himself. Would love to see the scribbles in the margins of Keith Smart's playbook where he brainstormed up an offense where Reke does not shoot and our PGs do not pass. IT had some success again in the third as a scorer, when basically nobody else was doing anything, against both Blake and whoever the Lakers are calling their backup PG at this point. Never did much other than score again though, but that's been the pattern throughout the early season, with him averaging 11.9pts 1.6reb 1.4ast 0.6stl 2.3TO. Did something however -- scored 13pts on 6-11 shooting -- and if that was all he did I'm just taking it on faith that that is all part of the master plan here.

Chris Hemsworth -- look! its Thor! Who BTW you dips, was a Norse god long millenia before anybody had the unfortunate idea of scribbling pictures of him in tights in a comic book.

Hayes ( B ) -- promoted to absolutely essential with Cousins and TRob both out, and for the most part gave us what he could, while obviously not being able to give us anything as an interior scorer. Came up with an offensive rebound immediately upon entering the game, a pattern that would repeat itself all game long. On the other hand was not able to control the defensive glass against the long Lakers frontline, somtheing that plagued us all night long. Defensively it was a good night, got several of his swipes on the ball against Dwight in the second, and gave him the ole tree stump treatment in the third (short guys have more power and leverage than tall guys), refusing to be backed down. On the other end of the floor it was a different story predictably, with our shoot it if you got it offense encouraging him into positions he should never have been in, going 1 on the Lakers frontline and various other dumb stuff. Was predictably in foul trouble as our only 2 true bigs racked up 11 fouls between them.

Thornton ( F ) -- there's not much to say here. Going into this game there were two guys we absolutely had ot have have big games for us -- Reke, and Marcus. And instead Reke was passive, and MT was just flat terrible. No two ways about it. Maybe there is some excuse in that early in the game he suffered a real hard fall running the break and getting pulled out of the air by the ball on a Jamison block, and slamming his head on the ground. Got Smart a T arguing for the foul call. But he was missing shots even before that, and he never stopped. No bursts, no glimmers, on a 1-10 shooting night. Against Lakers starters or their backups. So just for a number let's say that we could have maybe threatened the Lakers with 40pts out of Reke and MT as what should be our #2 and #3 guys. Instead we got 11. I don't care what anybody says, I am missing our lunkhead iso heavy Reke/MT backcourt at this point. Crude and inefficent as it was. At least your best guys had the ball and no excuses.

Caileigh Distin -- Aussie model. I assume the first name is pronounced "Kylie". Or alternately just "hot".

Stats: 18min 3pts (1-4, 1-3, 0-0) 3reb 2ast 1stl 0blk 1TO
Brooks ( D ) -- more erratic play here, and its entirely possible its going to cost him minutes to Jimmer now that the Salmons safety blanket for Jimmer's handle is back in play. Had one brihgt moment when he hit a corner three to pull us back within 1 in the mid 2nd. But it was his only hit, and a few minutes later when Jimmer had his dumbest moment of the game, randomly pulling up for a 30 footer as the whells came off for us, Brooks decided hey if he can do that so can I, and followed wiht one of his own a couple of possessions later. This offense is making idiots out of formerly potent offensive players.

Nadia Bjorlin -- actress of Iranian/Swedish descent, which sounds like a good combo for hotness.

Stats: 11min 18pts (7-9, 3-5, 1-1) 2reb 1ast 0stl 0blk 1TO
Jimmer ( A- ) -- well at least somebody had themselves a night. Earns the minus here for being clueless defensively in his first stint, which ended when the Lakers chased him with a Kobe postup, for another one of his stupid 28-30 foot chucks off his own dribble in the middle of us melting down, no doubt with Jerry bleating on about how he's got that range and its a good shot, and for his production largely coming in garbagetime. However, all that said, had himself a very impressive shooting night for the team that can't shoot straight, used mostly this time in place of Thornton as a guard with no responsiblity but to shoot. I think that works better, as anybody who has ever had to try to play with a PG prone to pulling up for 30 footers off his own dribble will attest. It was a relief just seeing the ball go in the hoop as the rest of our bench "shooters" (Thornton/Salmons/Brooks/Cisco) combined for a lovely 5-27 night. Now Smart is talking about getting him some more minutes. A solid plan -- now which one of the other 11 sacred cows are you willing to take minutes from Keith?

Elsa Pataky -- and this one is Spanish.

Stats: 23min 9pts (3-9, 1-3, 2-2) 2reb 2ast 1stl 1blk 2TO
Salmons ( C ) -- how sad is it that I am now watching John Salmons closely wondering/hoping if he can be the piece to stablize us and make this all work? Certainly wasn't stable in the early gong, as he came in dripping with rust, losing control of his dribble up top to start a Lakers break, taking steps on a break attempt for no reaosn at all to cost us another possession, forcing a drive into the lane and finding Howard looming etc. But recoverd in the garbagetime, when he got most of his numbers, had a steal up top and breakout, an resumed his role as professional Jimmer aid, setting him up for his jumpers. I'm going to apply a rust bonus to this grade, but while the game was still on he wasn't much help. In fact wasn't even much help in the early 4th as we managed to go 5 minutes without scoring behind an awesome Hayes/Outlaw/Salmons frontline.

D.B. Woodside

Stats: 3min 0pts (0-4, 0-1, 0-0) 1reb 0ast 0stl 0blk 0TO
Garcia ( F ) -- came in full of awful, getting set up for the open corner three and airballing it, then getting out on the break, blowing a layup, getting it back, getting it blocked, and blowing two possessions for us. So bad even Smart took him out. So bad he doesn't even earn a girl. I think the Space Jam aliens got a hold of him somewhere back there.

Here's to hoping we see a major overhaul somewhere in the Kings organization soon. Whether a 2 for 1 kind of trade or firing Smart or both, something has to be done

as much as all the Jimmer lovers annoy me with there over reaction to everything he does. i wouldnt be opposed to Jimmer taking the backup spot behind IT. as long as he can continue to shoot the ball like this. and also if someone on the coaching staff can get this team to run some freakin screens

At least he finally learned what it was that always got him in trouble and he worked very, very hard to correct it. He's still bat-poop nuts, IMHO, but at least he's no longer violent.
No longer violent? Just last April he almost knocked off Harden's head with an elbow. I think he is still pretty violent!

I don't think Jimmer can ever be the "PG" in any lineup that does not include Reke to actually cover for him both as a ballhandler and defender. Maybe maybe now that Salmons is back we could try to provide similar cover using John, but its dicey, and the defense of Jimmer/MT backcourts would be exciting -- you notice when he came in in this one he repalced MT.

^i totally agree Tyreke should be in there handling the ball, and Jimmer should be running off screens, but we would need a decent coach to comprehend such a concept, so we might as well not even think about it

I refuse to pay my good money to view this defective product in person until there's major changes. Well, I guess I'll keep my cable connection just so I can keep tabs on the too often absurd spectacle like I did tonight watching on TV both a rather entertaining NFL late game and Kings slow meltdown debacle.

Fire Smart and Assign Petrie to replace or Fire Smart and Fire Petrie to replace with ANYONE of real NBA substance who'll take the job - Sloan, Van Gundy (either bro' will do), McMillan, etc.

Count me as another mad and frustrated Kings fan not prepared to go through another laughable losing season with Maloofs as head cheerleaders steering the Titanic.

Did you guys expect anything else? We played this game with 1 and a half big men. I count Hayes as half a big man. Going against Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol nonetheless. Thorton jacked up 10 shots with 2 points. If he does his normal 10 shots with 14 points deal, the game is a lot closer than it was. Throw in Cousins and Robinson being suspended and we were basically where we should be against this team.

Sucks that the big game we were all looking forward to got ruined by Cousins and Robinsons suspensions.

BTW Francisco Garcia is bordering on completely useless now. He's on the team for one reason, to make 3 pointers. He can't even do that anymore.

I should have realized that this would have been a terrible game just by looking at our starting line up.

Travis Outlaw had a great game. Geoff Petrie should get on the phone right now looking to find a trade partner. Someone please tell me why Travis was starting? I am so confused how he got to start and play a good amount of minutes.

It’s pretty sad when the Lakers announcers question Coach Smart’s weird/annoying rotations.

I just don’t get it. Why are we not utilizing Tyreke’s ability? We have him standing in the corner? We aren’t taking advantage of his game/talents. Jimmer is the perfect compliment to Tyreke and yet we don’t use them properly. Give Tyreke the ball and let him make the pass to Jimmer.

We need to have a set rotation. I’m sorry, we don’t need to play everyone – including the ball boy.

Can we please hire Nate McMillan. This team needs stability. While we’re at it, lets replace our owners with new ones who want to keep the team here and put a good product on the floor (that includes a real coach). We have guys that can be really good together but they’re not utilized properly.

Last comment/statement: I love our team. I love that they’re in Sacramento and I hope that won’t change. I like (most) of the guys on our team and I enjoy watching them play. So even though I’m frustrated because of the constant losing, constant “coaching” change & no real coach. I still love this team. I just wish it come together. I want to see this team WIN. I want to see them play as one, and I want it to be done as a UNIT. I want Arco to be electric again. I want to feel the rush of the Playoffs again.

When Salmons gets back into game shape and if he starts hitting some shots, he's going to play a lot more. He's a two-way player, and that's what this team needs at both the two and the three.

Per Smart, Jimmer is going to be playing a lot more. Smart likes his performance, his work ethic, and his mental toughness.

Smart said Tyreke has an absolute green light to be as aggressive as he wants. Smart isn't stopping him. If this subpar offensive performance of Tyreke continues, I think Smart tries Tyreke off the bench. After all, Tyreke had his best performance of the year last year coming off the bench in Utah. It might take the pressure off.

Thompson better get it together. He's a veteran now. No excuses for losing his poise. It's like he thinks because Cousins does it, he can do it too.

Was at the game tonight, a few observations:

- Hayes and JT played amazing defense, really impressive. I forgot who I was arguing with a couple games ago about Hayes defense, but wow was I wrong.
- JT's offense looked really good around the basket
- Reke and Jimmer defense on the pick and roll between Kobe and Blake was hideous until they managed to get a steal
- Jimmer played well
- Garcia is BEYOND useless. This guy needs to be shipped off to Alaska and never been heard of again.
- The above also applies to Outlaw and Salmons
- Kings take a lot of bad shots, a lot. Reke, Johnson, MT, Outlaw, Salmons, JT, everyone. When they go in it's all good, but when you don't run plays to get to the basket or get an open look, most of the time it's going to be a struggle to make it.
- Dwight Howard is not that good, regardless of what the box score says

Smart is not a long term solution. As long as he plays every man on the bench, this team will never get anywhere. It's as simple as that.

And the NBA sucks. It's evident the NFL is going soft, but I didn't think the NBA would follow suit by suspending a player 2 games for words he said towards a commentator. Can't believe that's the equivalent to elbowing a player in the face.

I'd like to suggest grading the most impactful person in recent games - Keith Smart. Letting Paul the Octopus manage the Kings rotations would be far more effective.

Agree with all of this. And I will go to see some games in person, as I can afford it. I go because i love my team, I want people to see that Sacramento still wants this team, and so I can be loudly supportive of those guys on the court wearing the name Sacramento on their unis. My town, my team, for better and for worse. (I am getting tired of worse, though.)
