SL Kings vs Rockets game thread

with all johnson trade and brooks pick up i can see why there isn't a thread yet. But the game is on. Let's see if jimmer and trob can show improvement.

Robinson looks like a shorter version of rookie JT, out of control, trying too hard. Also where is his rebounding prowess?
He hasnt shown much thusfar except for a lack of defensive intensity which i did not expect. He played rushed in the championship game early on before settling down a bit.

I was hoping he would be more rebound and defense oriented. He hardly plays with his hands up. Still, 3 summer games on a semi disorganized level really has no bearing on a guys future.

Jimmer looks aggressive now...wonder how much the aaron brooks news has to do with that, either way, looks better

I like Jimmer so don't anyone jump down my throat. Did he have any game last year where he shot like this.
Shooting this well? He had a few. Playing off of Williams he normally shot very well. I don't think he ever made this many shots off of his fadeaway/penetration that he is doing now though. Those normally turned into turnovers because he would try to dish it instead of shoot.

I remember when I said I didn't think T-Rob wasn't a good finisher and all of you jumped on me.

Let's be real here, Landry is a better finisher at the rim. In the two T-Rob college games that I saw, if there was a defender his size near them, then he mostly threw up bricks. His defense wasn't good in those games either. Terrence Jones schooled him in one game, and in another, a random OSU player crossed him over pretty bad. He reacted slowly when other players made sudden movements. He gambled too much for steals. He didn't really play strong transition defense. But I think time and Clifford Ray can improve his defense.

You say let's be real here, and then go on to say you've watched him a whopping two times. He's a pretty good finisher, can finish with both hands... but Carl-I'm-so-short-I-keep-getting-my-shot-blocked-Landry is not a better finisher. Sorry. You'll have to wait and see.
You are about to go on my ignore list. You have no idea what the hell your talking about. I've seen Robinson play over 40 times in the last two years. I talked about him two years ago when he played behind the Morris twins. He's a very good on the ball defender, and he's improved every year. You'd find something wrong with Jesus Christ if we drafted him.

Show your faces, you two.

I seem to remember liking summer league more in years past. Maybe it's all the Maloofs garbage, I can't tell.. But these games have been painful to watch.
No its been different. Part of it is the struggles of all the main names/faces we came to watch. Watching Jimmer play himself inot 12th amn status and our #5 pick struggle to even define a position for himself, let alone do it well, isn't much fun. Combined with an overstuffed roster meaning none of the scrubby invites has much chance, and its just sort of an ugly and disappointing scrimmage.

Also, we have Rob Kurz on our roster. That alone is enough to give you stomach cramps from having to watch it.

Show your faces, you two.
He is a good finisher, at least based on college. Three summer league games when he hasn't even had a chance to go through practice with the real Kings team and get his feet wet in the NBA doesn't prove he isn't.

If you posted this in, say, February, you might have a point. Right now we can't even figure out how BJax is trying to use him. Once he's given a role by Smart and gets a few months of actual NBA basketball in him, and a training camp, it'll be much easier to judge.

You sound like NBAFan who during Cuz's summer league his rookie year was saying, see, I told you guys he sucks, he'll never be anything in this league. Notice NBAFan hasn't shown his face in a long time. You might think you got me with your reply and quoting me, but you did it far too prematurely, and given TRob hasn't even had a single training camp practice, this post of yours might look pretty ridiculous down the road.

Cuad .... are you seriously calling out Rainmaker and Bajaden over a couple Summer league games? To quote Johnny McEnroe .. "You cannot be serious!".

Dude, chill. It's FAR too premature to pull the "I told you so" card. In fact, I think those two wil be calling for you to show your face in another year or two when nobody is questioning Robinson's ability to finish. Regardless, even if you end up being right .. it won't be proven for quite some time so settle down already. Sheesh.

Okay, what is this stuff with Cousins' summer league that is suddenly getting repeated. Cousins was BRILLIANT in summer league. Won rookie of the month off it and had everybody buzzing. He was also sloppy, tempermental, and tired. But he was the single best player in the entire summer league, and other than I think one game by Wall, it wasn't even close.

On the other hand I'm getting considerably concerned with TRob. My argument about drafting him was that he was going to be a poor fit if he worked out. I did not contemplate the possibility he might actually bust and not even have a position. As I mentioend at the beginngin of summer, that #5 pick was our single biggest asset to improve upon a 22-44 team. If we come up empty with back to back years of #5 + #7 picks that severely muddies the initial success we had with Reke and Cousins back to back.

Honestly, I hope Robinson thinks you aren't supposed to play hard D in summer league or something, because his defense this entire week has been more than alarming. Worse than Cousins. Worse than Hawes. Worse than everyone.

I haven't seen any effort on that end. None. And at his size he NEEDS effort.

There's nothing here I disagree with. Cuz's summer league was far superior to TRob's, and what we've seen from him. At the same time the Cuz we saw in the summer league isn't near the player he is now. The talent was there, but he's gotten in much better shape and has considerably improved how he uses his talent. My only point was you can't simply judge a player on how he's done in summer league and three games into summer league is a bit premature to pull out the I told you so card. Also think Cuz has a faster learning curve than any other young player I've seen recently, aside from maybe D Rose.

There are definite concerns about TRob. But in watching him I'm really beginning to think BJax hasn't defined a role for him, which would be on par with what we saw under Smart last year, in that it seemed just about everyones role was to run every chance we get and to jack up the first shot you see. Combine that with this possibly being our worst summer league roster ever, it might explain part of why TRob's play looks quite helter skelter for lack of a better term, and why he's all over the place.

The concerns are legitimate, but until we see him after training camp and after a few months of getting his feet wet I don't think anyone can say they know one way or another.

Have to question if defense is stressed at all with our team. Doesn't seem we're interested in playing any, and signing Brooks just highlights that.

Jimmer looks a lot better today. He's had a few nice passes in the 4th, if these scrubs could finish at all he'd have 2 or 3 more assists. Kurz turned it over off a nice pass and then Mitchell bricked a wide open lay up.

We could have had Barnes who has looked pretty comfortable. Ah well, let's be hopeful.
Barnes would have been exactly what this team needed, and while T-Rob was my pick when he was available at #5, the moves we've made since then (bringing back JT, trading for JJ, signing Brooks) has done nothing to help out this team with that draft selection. It's like I've been saying, Petrie is just bringing the BPA he can find, and not worrying about how they'll fit in the end.

I wanted Barnes and people hated on me for it lol. With that said, I like TRob too, and I think he will be a good player and summer league is no reason for everyone to freak out here.
