Draft Thread

They certainly have been when their rim protectors are healthy, and they have been better than us defensively EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Your cluelessness about defense is jsut ridiculous. More because you are so stubborn about it than because you started off ignorant.

here's Milwaulkee in Opp FG% since Skiles took over:
11-12: t14th (injured Bogut)
10-11: 6th
09-10: t9th
08-09: t14th

Here's us:
11-12: 30th
10-11: 22nd
09-10: 20th
08-09: 30th

They've also finished ahead of us in the standing every year despite us having the much more dynamic talents.
How many playoff series wins?

If there will be playoff series on the line, Thomas will be abused, make no mistake.
If we get there this year then it's probable, but 2-3 years down the road he will be one of our better defenders on the team and it won't phase him. I don't expect to get a playoff spot until then anyway.

Oh, i get it. You'd rather us pick up bigs like John Henson over Robinson because you want us to be a 9-10th seed year and year out. Gotcha.

I pity anyone who thinks Milwaukee is the key to success in this league.

And you never answered my original question. Would you rather have Robinson or Dalembert?

He still growing like a highschool Anthony Davis?

It will be interesting to see what we do with JT....if we'll still match a large offer after picking up T.Rob.
My guess is that we'll still re-sign him if we can keep him with the MLE...but if an offer comes in significantly higher...I think we might let him go.
There's nothing wrong with having three guys over 6'6" We are a short team. What do you mean "what will we do with JT?" Sign him. TRob isn't an NBA star yet. :)

Dallas just sent Tyler Zeller who they took at #17 to Cleveland for #24, #33 and #34. Dallas will try to pick some contributors they can use very little cap space on. If Jeff Taylor slips into the second round, I think he goes to Dallas, unfortunately.

This shotblocking thing is really going too far. It's important, we all agree on that, but it's not the most important thing or the only way to defende or win.

We were awful on D last year. Give Thibodeau this team, I'm sure we will be much much better. It's not only a metter of shotblockers, it's the team system. Reke and Williams can be good defender, so Robinson. Cousins is not great, but he is long and takes charges. IT, for his size, he's a pretty good defender. We need team defense, that's the point. TEAM DEFENSE!

Doubt it. He seems to have a very "matured" body. He's probably already his his spurt. He's about 6.9 in shoes. That's fine for PFs in the NBA. He's got a VERY strong core so I don't see him being pushed around much.

LOL I thought you were referrring to Isaiah. T Rob has a chance of being a great defender. My concern is that we do not have anyone to protect the rim. I would have made the T Rob pick, btw. But I would have real concerns in doing so. Also, I wonder about how he wastes JT talents.

we drafted Jeff Taylor last year except his name was tyler honeycutt last year.

Cousins is a solid man defender as well, who I might add, CAN STILL IMPROVE!!! He's absolutely not a finished product on either end!
I posted our rotations already but the biggest thing for us is to get Reke out of the SF position. Put him at the 2 guard, find a defensive SF (AK47, T-will?) and let this core develop and grow together as it should. There's plenty of room for an average post defending shotblocker on the bench

Robinson's height thing is overstated. He just doesn't have ideal height, but he's in no way a tweener or undersized.

He's an "NBA" 6-9, the same size as Karl Malone.

IT isn't going to grow.. But he's a good defender as long as he stays on PGs. Our problem last year was because MT was SG and Evans was SF and JT was inconsistent.

Teams will get less offensive rebounds against us so that will help a ton. Second chance points killed us this year.

Oh get a hold of your emotions, I don't think Brick is saying that. Robinson is a good pick, but there's no question that he doesn't fit as well as say MKG would. The point Brick is trying to make is that we still have holes that we absolutely need to fill, because as good as a player and addition Robinson is, he doesn't fill them. We've added good value to our team, but our team is only as strong as our weakest link, and so we've got to address those issues too.

Have to wonder if we could get Udoh for something cheap. I'm very imrpessed with his defense in spurts, and think he'd be a good 3rd big if we can't acquire a more proven defender. Would probably fit our owners as well if JT is let go.
Agreed.

I really like Udoh and would love to put out feelers to see if we could get him for cheap.

Wow....Cuban just fleeced the Cavaliers.
How in the world did he just get a 1st round pick + 2 early 2nd round picks for Tyler Zeller?

I'm stunned.

I'm going to have to disagree with you about Cousins being a solid man defender at the moment. Solid man defenders are not amongst the top in the league in fouls per game.

Btw, Tyreke isn't a finished product on either end either, but people are all like "Tyreke is never going to be good, Tyreke is never going to be a solid defender".

Oh please. There's no way you know that. First he need to figure out how to grow a few inches and not get shot over so easily. Secondly, he needs to grow a few more inches so it's not a complete mismatch when he gets switched onto a SG/SF. Third, he needs to get to the point where he can at least guard the opposing PG through the game instead of having Reke move over and cover for him, or Reke play off his guy to help.

Bron D Wade....Stupid comparison.
he didn't make a comparison. He simply mentioned a team, a title winner no less, that debunks the misguided theory that was presented. you only think it's stupid because it proves the theory wrong. someone else mentioned the first Chicago Bulls title team, which is another decent example. and, while they didn't win the title, someone also pointed out our 2001/02 Kings. they were one shot away from the finals yet had no elite shotblocking presence.

shotblocking is nice, but you dont have to have it to be a contender. in fact, shotblocking is usually overrated because if you don't rebound the block, does it really matter? second chance points kill ...

fg% against >> shot blocking

if shot blocking helps you achieve low FG% against, more power to you. but on it's own merit, it's overrated.

beside shot-blocking and SF, kings were woeful in the height department with grand total of 2 players that belong on NBA playoff team (starters and bench included) for SF-PF-C position over 6-6.
T-Rob helps there in addition to other qualities mentioned. Without this pick bet people would be complaining about small-ball again.

Another thing, it is imperative for Kings to start wining ASAP and at least be competitive for playoff.... not to be instant championship contender.
They can definitely be that without shot blocker... not that any was available anyway at our pick space.

7 person rotation of IT-Reke-MT-TWill-DC-JT-TRobb is close to compete for playoff... even if nothing else happens (useless second round pick, no trades, no improvement from Hassan/Jimmer...).

With MKG gone, what would be the better pick than this guy at 5?
