[Game] Kings @ Hornets - 4/11/12

A couple observations:

1) It's hard to even get all riled up over a team (for the majority) that has completely packed it in
2) I think it's become apparent why Donte Greene is 10-12th man on a bad team (getting the T on the 2nd delay of game for not tucking in his jersey, laughing all the time when down 10+ pts to the worst team in the West, and posing after he connects on a wide open 3 that he hits at about a 25 percent rate)

Disagree. Need considerably more defense, and probably less scorers. Already have too many, as none of them are being maximized, ever.
OK, good point. Defense would be awesome. And I guess it is true that we have scorers, and that they need to be utilized the right way. But I don't think our current "scorers" (outside of Tyreke) can become legit threats for a good playoff run. I still think we need a guy who can rack up points on a nightly basis (i.e. Kobe Bryant) Can Marcus Thornton become that player? He certainly has shown signs of being capable, so maybe he is the answer, who knows????

But, yes, absolutely, defense would be awesome. I actually want this team to start going towards a more defensive mindset to be honest with you, and have been wanting to do so ever since the end of the Adelman era, when an offensive mindset got us to the playoffs, but did not get us the championship. As they say, Offense wins games, Defense wins championships. We want a championship.

Thorton is that player already. He just isn't always efficient. If were on the topic of scorers i think we'd be better off with a 14-17 ppg guy who can hit the outside shot and provide a little length and defense. Batum or Ilyasova comes to mind.

well at least we got that troublemaker Reke out of the game. that helped.
at this point, i honestly believe that keith smart simply does not know how he wants to utilize a unique, versatile player like tyreke. shifting him to SF was clearly a move in the direction of not addressing the problem, because that position, empty as it is for the kings, forces 'reke out of a primary role in the team's offense, and into a secondary role. smart is so deadset on smallballing his way into an uptempo offense that he seems unable to craft a game plan that maximizes the skill sets of both tyreke evans and demarcus cousins. these two players find success in spite of their head coach, in my estimation. if the goal is to tank, well, then its working. but i wouldn't expect cousins or evans to stick around for much more of this kinda lottery-bound masochism...

Batum would be nice. Not sure if I would want Ilyasova. If I had to pick between both, I'd want Batum.

I think if it this way and will make it quick. Next year we can have a model of

IT
Reke
x-defender(MKG,AK,Batum,etc)
x-defender(Davis,Robinson,Drummond, etc)
Cousin

Bench:

Jimmer
Thornton
TWill
JT
Hassan

Pretty simple, obviously which players we might acquire can be discussed, but that model is much better defensively, maximizes Reke/Cuz, and greatly strengthens the scoring punch off our bench.

How about giving Reke a screen, the option of hitting Cuz down low, and have MT at least attempt to get open for a kickout? Just because Reke has it does'nt mean everyone has to turn into freakin statues.

Where is Cuz? Argument with coach?

it certainly would be nice to see some pick and pop with any combination of demarcus cousins and evans/thomas/thornton...

For how great I hear Smart is at coaching offense, I don't see it in the half court. He isn't using Cuz that effectively. Just iso's him 18 ft away and lets him work, without any cutters. Doesn't get him many opportunities inside at all. With Reke, just iso's him and lets him go to work, again without off the ball movement. When either has the ball the rest are statues for the most part.

i've said it before and i'll say it again: just imagine what rick adelman would do with the skillsets of these kings. with thomas' speed, evans' strength, thornton's explosiveness as a scorer, and cuz's superstar potential, he'd turn this kings team into an offensive powerhouse, rather than an uptempo one-trick pony...

Smart all smiles on the sideline as time runs out. How can he explain this one? Maybe he won't, just wing it in a quick one with reporters, then wing it on to OKC.
