IT is easily becoming my favourite King. He's got a playmaker mentality out there and actually has good patience and Bball IQ. He really focuses on getting Cousins the ball especially which The Kings need from their PG. I can't see Evans taking back the starting PG role. But this could be a good thing for his game because it will force him too learn parts of the game he is weak at. (Cutting/Offball Movement, Shooting and just how to be more versatile overall) Eventually If Reke progresses enough and we get a legit starting SF, I can see him starting at SG. And Smart bringing MT off the bench to lead the second unit in a Ginobili type role like a cuple years ago.

I think eventually this might be exactly what happens once they get a real SF. I think MT off the bench could still play 30+ minutes, score 17 ppg, still finish most games, and be a monster. He would fit perfectly in the Jason Terry/James Harden 6th man role.

yep wouldn't mind seeing something like this for next season

pg: Isaiah
sg: Tyreke
sf: Batum or Brandon Rush
Pf: JT or Hayes
C:Cousins

Bench:
Thornton
Jimmer(hopefully much improved) i have faith he will become very solid in a couple years
Hayes
fill the bench out with solid players
get rid of Hickson, Salmons, Outlaw, maybe Greene

According to Coach Smart post-game, DMC told him (Smart) to let Hayes stay in. DMC was cheering the team on from the bench so it was clear he wasn't upset or anything. I have no reason to doubt Smart's comments.
This. Apparently Tyreke also advocated leaving Cisco in as well since he was playing well. Some of you are reading to much into the lineups. The guys were hot, took the lead and Smart rode them to the finish with the support of our two young guns. This is a good thing. T-E-A-M

I had to listen to the first half on the radio while driving home from work.. Was there something wrong with Gerry Gerald?

Yes, there are four quarters in an NBA game and, yes, IT played one helluva game. The first half was a track meet. Washington didn't play the night before, the Kings did. Love this kid and his teammates love him, too. And, lest we sometimes forget, he's a rookie. BTW, we won the game.

The growth of that young man is a very pleasing thing for the Kings nation. He just has IT! A talented beast who is about the team and wants to be a King for life. I LOVE IT!!!

Just re-watched the first quarter to see if maybe there was something I missed the first time around. Turns out, there wasn't.
Thanks for taking the time to re-watch the game footage to prove that IT wasn't RUINED.

Good work in writing it up to make a correct record of what actually happened.

I'm sorry, but mods how much longer do we have to put up with youknowwho? Biting my tongue is starting to make it bleed.

I have no idea why people don't use the ignore function. Seriously, do it and make your life easier. Or if you at least decide not to, then don't quote. Quoted posts show up regardless of whether the person is on ignore.

Click on the name of the person who you find uninteresting and you will access a page of his info. Read carefully and you will find an option to Ignore the person.
Yeah, you had me do it for some other internet tough guy and I forgot how to get there. But I kept plugging away and found....the promised land!

Hayes ( C+ ) -- well except for those minor areas of basketball like scoring and rebounding, has begun to play a little better. During a long shaky first half stint alongside Hickson was so offensively lacking confidence that he turned the ball over trying to throw it back to Reke immediately after Reke dropped it off to him, hot potato style. Wanted no part of it. Repeatedly rebounded over in that first stint as his lack of height killed him, and while I've seen it before I am beginning to forget how he ever was an effective rebounder. Finally did something right with back to back nice passes to Reke and Cisco on the cuts. Hey, maybe he should be a guard. In the second half ended up being part of the mixed crew that eventually pulled the game out. Did little statistically in those minutes, although did have a follow and a pair of FTs, but on that doing subtle things theory, he was making some good defensive plays that won't apepar anywhere in a boxscore. Right place and right time. Able to handle switches onto perimeter personnel, and to ride penetrators without picking up fouls.
You know, my personal take is that Hayes' rebounding is suffering because of Hickson. Being much shorter, Hayes rebounds by getting his body in the way, then tipping and keeping the ball alive until it's nearer to him than the opponent and he can catch the ball. Problem is, JJ Hickson pretty much just tips the ball up as well. When you're 6'6, you're not going to get many rebounds when your front court mate is tipping the ball higher and higher and away from you. I'm pretty damn sure that if you put Hayes in with Cousins he'd get most of the defensive rebounds that Cousins doesn't.

As far as his D on Wall. Wall's first bucket came on a pick n roll where he went baseline, Cousins showed briefly then backed off, Thomas was trailing Wall and bumped him while shooting giving Wall the and-1. Not really on Isiah here except for the bad foul, no one came out and stopped Wall's drive. Walls next score came on a phantom foul call on the break where he was out of control and was bailed out by the refs, made 1 of 2 from the line. Wall scored next on a fast break layup. He hit 2 jumpers off screens where the Kings bigs didn't come out, giving Wall the 18 footer in both cases, and he made them. His other bucket of the 1st qt did come entirely at Thomas' expense. Thomas tried to get through a screen too quickly and Wall cut the other way and exploded to the hoop for an easy layup.
Nevermind that Thomas is an awesome midget super point guard, because it's pretty clear on your post Thomas was not able to defend or slow down Wall.

So, what was wrong with what Bricklayer wrote?

Is it really that difficult a concept that to defend the pick n roll you need help from whoever is defending the screener? Not all responsibility goes to the man originally defending the ball. Rewatch that first quarter yourself and tell me Thomas got RUINED, it just didnt happen. Was it his most effective quarter ever? NO, he was 1/4 shooting, and Wall did he beat him badly ONCE, where he overplayed the impending screen. But he wasn't ruined by Wall, thats all I was saying. Defending the pick n roll is a TEAM responsibility, and the team performed poorly in the first quarter.

I read some natioinal press about the Wizards game and Wall was talking some serious trash in the first half. Notice how IT responded to it. The biggest play of the night, one of the important plays of the season was ITs take of Wall on a one on one break for a reverse layup. It was obvious by Thomas' reaction it was an important play to him. Thomas is an important player for the Kings because of his attitude and his infectious energy level alone. The team needs to have a fire lit under it every night, especially with the schedule this year and long road trips.

In the same way a lively PG can wake up a team in a postive way, shot blockers intimidate shooters by their mere presence. Nobody wants to see their jump shot sail into the stands and spend some time looking for guys that can do that. Against Miami and Wash both some players were more tentative than ususal. JT is an example. I like him alright because of his effort level, but had his game changed by McGee. Evans spent a lot time looking around and passing the ball back out against Miami. Maybe some members of the forum don't remember playing against adept shot blockers. It can be intimidating. Bball is a mental game.
