Tropical Island Music Artist Draft - FINIS

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
NSFW (Language), but here is something to do with the beastie boys you should really see.
I know that was supposed to be funny, but I felt I was entirely missing the joke somehow. But then again, I've always felt that about the real Beastie Boys stuff, so...

Anyway, nice whiplash on the Simon & Garfunkel to Beastie Boys swing -- two groups you wouldn't even expect to find on the same list, let alone going back to back. ;)

I got lucky to get Simon and Garfunkel... they fell... I know the Beastie Boys would not be there for my next pick... and I needed them on my island.

Watch the Triple Trouble video I posted... it's funny...
I just always come away feeling like they are trying too hard and oftentimes think without the spectacle there is nothing there. I don't hate them or anything, just more perplexed by their overwhelming popularity amongst an audience that is frequently not fond of any other hip hop act.

You being a Clash fan should understand this... Beastie Boys are rap/dj music with a punk/rock influence, it's funny, it's fun at parties, it's great for playing loudly in one's car, you can dance to it... just a group that was so good you cannot simply put them in a single genre; so people who are fans of different genres (punk, rock, etc) like their music... kind of like the Clash.

Perhaps... but they give off an aura of hipster d-baggery that the Clash didn't. I will admit that I liked their hardcore songs well enough, and the guitar driven songs appealed to me in my youth. But that's as far as it went for me.

They would not have fallen past my third pick, I knew as soon as Paul was picked I might lose them but I wanted my country first.

For my third round pick:

Elvis Costello

A rangy musician who always seemed to be trying to evolve his sound. Also one of my favorite song writers.

I was curious why the Paul Simon picker didn't go for S&G, to me that's the better pick. Beastie Boys I still don't get after all these years. I know I'm mostly alone on that one so probably a good pick.
That Paul Simon picker guy was me. Personally I think Simon & Garfunkel had a nice range of songs (which are great!), but Paul Simon also went on to create an additional 30 years worth of great stuff. He rerecorded all of my favorite S&G tracks, so I won't be without them, but I also get 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover, Kodochrome, Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes, You Can Call Me Al, Loves Me Like a Rock, and many others. All in all, I just favor Paul Simon's full body of work to the more limited supply of classics during the duo years.

His best moment was the song switch on SNL.

None of Henkel's picks were on my list but I am really digging his. Hopefully he stays away from the stuff I want just enough to still have an enjoyable list. :)

Thank you sir, but i have a bone to pick with you. Here I am being a nice guy, staying away from your picks while you go ahead and steal the Clash from me. I was so hoping they would slip to me in the second round.

You got a nice couple of picks yourself. Its gonna be interesting to see how these lists shake out once we get into the later rounds.

i am simply taking AC/DC before they too disappear.. 60_ac_dc1_b.jpg

they have been in around almost as long as I have. They are probably as hard rock as I'm ever likely to go in any music draft. and as all rock was starting to go, I figured I better grab them while I could.

AC/DC is an Australian rock band, formed in 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. (in case anyone didn't know)

Man I'm torn between 2 choices for my number 3 pick and I'm pretty sure this will be the last time I have the chance to draft either.. I'm kind of hoping that sackings7 makes my choice for me with his pick lol :D

Didn't think anyone would take Ozzy this soon. Randy Rhoads is my favorite guitarist and one of my favorite musicians. He and Ozzy made some great music together. The Jake E Lee and Zakk Wylde stuff is solid too.
I just love of Ozzy and didn't want to take a chance not having his songs with me if I get stuck on an island. Agree with Randy, great guitarist.

Alright, with AC/DC so rudely stolen from me, I'm gonna have to again go with the classic, easy-listening, love every song they sing type before I consider switching it up a bit. 2 of my favorite artists aside from AC/DC are still on the board, but they should last a while longer yet. I have a feeling somebody may have their eye on this band so I'm grabbing them now.

It's been clear for awhile that we're all picking from a smaller group of music artists than we were films. I haven't even made my third pick yet and already I've lost five or six of my top twenty artists.
