Kings May File for Relocation Before Deadline

I say we get as many kings fans as possible to put on there jerseys and picket in the most populace place in the Sacramento area in order to raise awareness of the situation.... I'm having a hard time feeling powerless.
I am as well. But if there's anything that the Seattle nsituation has told us, it is that once an owner sets his mind to moving, nothing the fans do can sway him

The best and only thing fans can do that will have any impact on The Maloofs is just stop going to games for the rest of the time they're here, period. Let them finish their stint in an empty arena. If that sounds like sour grapes...it's because it is.

BUT, doesn't that just give ammo to any owner who asks the NBA for move approval - based on "lack of fan support"? And that won't sway anyone, but would just reinforce the relocation sentiment.

It's only a matter of time now. I went on sacbe to read the story and read the comments and most people seem to be happy or don't care if the Kings leave. It's just sad how fast the kings lost support from this city. I agree with the poster above, Sacramento does not deserve a pro team with the NIMBY attitude of the people who live here. So long, Sacramento Kings. I heard they will rebrand and change the name when they move there because there's already another pro franchise there named the Kings.
The sad thing is that there is a lot of negative reaction from malcontents who are never happy with anything in the city and county, but the thing is the Kings reach out to the entire norcal area. I live an hour away, and the kings help fuel the sports community in the north state. It's sad that such a small area could help decide the fate of such a large area of fans.

Haven't you seen any of the games? They already play in an empty arena. ;)

But seriously, attendance has been embarrassingly low for years now. You really can't blame the Maloofs for leaving (no arena/low attendance). The Maloofs aren't running a charity. "If it don't make dollars, it don't make sense"

Though if they moved to Anaheim not only would they be a third wheel.. they'd have to ditch the "Kings" name and probably the whole royal theme/colors altogether because of the Ducks. That would really suck.

they wouldn't even be the most popular kings team in LA.

Actually seems to be part of the problem as I have seen this thing play out -- the insane balkanization in Calfiornia means that the financial burden of building the arena is falling on maybe 25% of the fanbase, and there is no way to really tap the vast outlying areas otehr than gas type tazxes, which numbnuts voters vote down anyway.

Bleak humor: Well time to focus on renovating Raley Field so we can move the A's here.

Sacramento NEEDS pro sports of some nature.
If Kings go here's what I know about any future for major pro sports in Sac. The A's are probably best option because they are currently on a year-to-year lease with worn out Oakland Alameda County stadium or whatever the hell they call it. Up until a few years ago the A's had a 15 year lease in Oaktown until going year-to-year more recently. The 49ers are an impossible dream for Sac since they are surely going to get a new stadium soon on the peninsula or in SF. The Raiders might be a possibility but it's just as likely they would go back down to somewhere in Southern Calif where they previously residient in another incarnation - assuming they want out of the Bay Area. Plus, there's been talk of Raiders or A's or both relocating down in the South Bay - Fremont? The NBA will never put another franchise in Sac or at least for around 75-100 or more years. The best thing Sac could do if they lose the Kings out of stupidity is proceed judiciosly with a sports complex of some sorts that would attract a MBL or NFL team or both however long it takes to come to fruition.

I don't and wouldn't blame them for leaving. What i can and will blame them for is sending mixed signals and not being entirely honest about their intentions.

I don't see a snowball's chance in hell of that happening. if they couldn't manage to get something done when they had an NBA team already here, I see no reason to think that they'll do it once the team is gone. Once The Kings are gone, I'm afraid that's it. We'll forever be just a jumbo sized version of Stockton or Fresno.

Certainly not when Stern is in power (althought he gave New Orleans and Charlotte their franchises "back")

Attendance has been embarrassingly low because the Kings have been embarrassingly bad.... Fans stop showing up when your team sucks... thats what happens, regardless of the team. In many ways the low attendance is the Maloofs fault.... if they had started the rebuild a long time ago instead of plugging holes with role players year after year we might already be back in the playoffs and on our way to a new arena.

Jim Thomas tried to get a new arena before the Maloofs even entered the picture.

The Maloofs tried to get a new arena when the Kings were title contenders.

Although at this point, one must simply not give up hope.
I suppose but It seems to me that one would have to don some serious rose colored glasses to retain any hope if the Kings leave. This whole thing comes as a big surprise. I fully expected them to file within the next year or two if the latest ICON plan didn't though but I didn't expect it at all this year. Especially not with that half cocked Anaheim proposal.

There was never really a serious effort back then though. It wasn't until about 2004/2005, once the team was on the decline that more serious efforts surfaced.

My point was it doesn't matter what record the team has because we have been bad, good, bad again and on the way up during the times we have tried to get a new arena.

Yeah, i know they failed... but that was before that fat lady sang.... now she's about to finish her performance. And at this moment it would be a helluva lot easier to get this done if the Kings were winning and the fans were jazzed again.

I'm not so sure about that. I think one of the reasons fans aren't as jazzed about the team as they would otherwise be is that many of them have felt for years now that the Kings are on the way out. If there was an arena currently being built and everyone knew The Kings were staying i bet that interest and enthusiasm in this young team would be much greater than it is right now.

I swear to God, I will never watch another NBA game as long as I live if my team is moved.

I can't believe this is bull**** is actually going on. What a truly disgusting feeling.

Definitely wouldn't hurt.
