Petrie speaks on Cousins/Greene scuffle

#9
I'm sure Petrie is a very intelligent guy, and he is no doubt respected around the league, but he is absolutely horrible as a speaker / interview. Both his radio interviews on KHTK earlier sounded like he was ready to fall asleep... in fact I was. Grant made it sound like phone difficulties, but GP was just fumbly and mumbly through the whole thing. Terribly nervous sounding, distracted, and just boring. I know that's just his MO, but hopefully he's much stronger behind the scenes and handling players. This was kind of important team damage control and he just was awefull.

thats wat some ppl on some forums are speculating. im sure its not true but regardless this team needs to start winning.
There are lots of Kings and Cousins haters out there.. Don't take any of that seriously. Just BSers who want to see us and him fail.

On another note, most every board I read was filled with posters hoping we'd put Cuz on the trade block so they would have a shot at him.

Yea, it was better for sure. Still hard to catch everything he said easily though. Maybe he took some meds before the calls to the station. It almost seemed like Grant even just finished the interview short because he wasn't very awake.. Just my take on it.

I think Petrie was tired. He was in Texas scouting college players when the "scuffle" took place. So I'm guessing he did not sleep much Sunday night as he took a late flight to Sacto and probably showered at his office and started having early morning meetings with the Kings staff and eventually Cousins and his agent. I have always thought Petrie was an OK interview. He puts a lot of thought into some of his responses. Considering the way these interviews are analyzed he is wise to do so.

I agree with your assessment of the situation.

"Kings should get rid of Cousins - he's a cancer."
Followed by:
"[insert team] should trade for Cousins -he'd be a beast here."

I'm pretty sure the management knows what they have in Cousins. He ain't going nowhere. Stop trying to spread baseless rumors. (Not at you.)

Having spoken to Petrie personally, I didn't see or hear anything unusual in his press conference. He always thinks before he speaks, and is very guarded in his responses. Is he a great orator? No! But being a great speaker has nothing to do with intelligence or experience.
