I think a large chunk of the board would like to trade Landry before the season is up. No offense to the guy but he is not cut out to be a starter and I don't think we will pay him what he'll want to be our 6th man when the season is over. So instead of letting him walk and getting nothing for his contract - like last year with Kenny Thomas - we should try to pick up someone to help the team in the future.
What position and what player would you target???
Personally I'd like for the team to trade for a 2 guard. I'm not entirely sure if they are all available and frankly too lazy to make sure contracts match up, but it would be great if we could use Landry to get...
1. O.J. Mayo - He's been coming off the bench for Memphis and they might not be able to afford him after resigning Gay and Conley to large contracts. Randolph and Marc Gasol look to be up next. Send them Landry's expiring contract as a way for them to gain some cap space. Mayo would be great for the Kings. Instant starter who can create his own shot, consistently hit a jumper, and play defense.
2. Rudy Fernandez - Fernandez has been disgruntled for years in Portland and rumors are they would like to pick up another big man. Don't know if this is actually true but I feel Fernandez would be a great fit in Sacramento. We continue to be an International friendly team and he would get the PT he wants assuming Westphal doesn't continue to play Chinese fire drill with the line ups. Fernandez is athletic, can hit the open 3, and plays better defense than given credit for.
3. Andre Iguodala - It's been said the 76ers have been shopping Iggy and Iggy has said that he expected to be traded. Why not make his new home Sacramento? Aside from my homerish reasons of being a UoA basketball fan, Iggy would be a solid fit at the 2 next to Reke. Not as ideal as Mayo or Fernandez because he lacks a consistent outside shot, but he surpasses both of them in athleticism. He would instantly become our 'wow' player and give the fans something to get excited about once or twice a game.
Those are my top 3 choices at this point. Let's face it, at this point the Kings aren't going to be a popular destination for any free agents so we will need to improve our team via draft and trade. Once again, I don't truly know how available any of those players are but I would be willing to deal Landry + ____ if necessary to make it happen. As long as the blank isn't a 1st round pick or a young player
