Rumor has it we're looking at a guy named Enchilada to complete the formula.

He plays down here in the Ensenada league for a team named "Hands across the Border." He's really quick and elusive with great leaping ability. His nickname is El Coche Calor, or Hot Rod in english. He's desperatily searching for an opportunity in the US...:D

The Ensenada Enchilada?

Pooh will give us quick energy minutes to that we need. I'd rather have Jeremy Lin myself. He's an energizer bunny but is bigger at 6'3" and good outside shooter. Too bad we let the Warriors jump on him.
Lin could end up the better player, but I like Jeter for the role we'll have him in. Both guys looked good in SL, but Jeter was a much better playmaker: 5.4 Ast/2.4 TO versus Lin's 2.0 Ast/3.5 TO. I think Lin may be more duplicative of what we have in Beno, while Jeter is more suited for the change of pace 3rd PG we need to just come in and push the ball for limited stints. If his shooting has improved as advertised, he'll be a good pickup.

Lin is probably the most efficient shooter you can get out of SL at .519 FG and .667 3pt and really fits our need at the 2 position with the size and athleticism so I still think he fills our need better but for some reason, our GM thinks we're set at the 2 so he takes the next need is PG backup.

Antoine Wright is a 2 guard.

Personally i like both signings. I like the signing of Wright a little more than Jeter just because in a few ways he embodies the new identity of the team, size and defensive ability. I looked up as many youtube clips as a could of Jeter and he looks like he can play. His shot at the NBA 3 pt line seems questionable but he pretty much looked like a quick and crafty point guard.

Actually one of the reasons I liked Lin was precisely because he had a lot of Beno's characteristics. He would have potentially been a smooth fit in our offense, and been able to come in off the bench and run the same offense in a similar fashion, play combo guard next to Reke, split ballhandling alongside Beno etc. Smooth fill in if Beno got hurt as well. Tiny little guys like Pooh can change the pace, but are much more limiting. Can't combine them with Beno on the floor wihtout getting tiny and weak defensively. Can't run them at SG next to Reke. If Beno gets hurt, can't play them in the same role + lose versatility. I don't consider the 3rd PG position important enough to really worry about, and I guess there is some advantage to having him around to practice against to prepare you for the darts, but given a straight choice between Pooh an Lin I would have taken Lin as a cleaner fit next to Reke and as a Beno replacement.

I wouldn't expect there to be much, but it will be interesting to see how his defense looks. If he could effectively defend darts that might be handier than just having an obligatory scrubby short guy who needs the ball to be effective.

perimeter speed

It looks like with Wright and Jeter, they're trying to improve perimeter speed which will improve our fast break capability. With Cousins and Dally grabbing rebounds we'll have more fast break opportunity. Wright can't shoot but he can fly and give us extra opportunity to score on the break.

Cruzdude and me were both impressed with Lin in summer league, and if I had my choice between Lin and Jeter, I would have taken Lin. Don't know whats going on behind the scenes, but I do know that I saw Reynolds and Joe Maloof at one of Lin's games, so there must have been some interest there. They weren't sitting together by the way. Joe was down on the floor and Jerry was up in the rafters. Anyway, I liked Lin. He's a very smooth player and appears to have a very good outside shot to go along with good handles, and I agree he would have looked good in a Kings uniform.

I see Jeter as practice player and someone that can come in and play in the right situations from time to time. I will say this. Both Jeter and Wright are good athletes. If Wright can become a good spot up shooter, and play good defense, he can be of value. I haven't gone and looked up his spot shooting percentages. I suspect that a lot of his bad shooting percentages come from trying to create his own shot off the dribble. Something that Cisco still struggles with from time to time. I don't know how good he is coming off of screens either. All I know is that he shot better in college than he has in the NBA, and that usually means a player can't create his own shot in the NBA the same way he did in college. We shall see..

Lin would be the more all-around player and fit well if you're looking for a true 4th guard, although it would be a little awkward that your 3rd and 4th guards are both 6'3" quasi-SG's. He would be a great fit if Beno were injured too.

The way I'm looking at it though, it will be a three-guard rotation, not two guards backing up two starters. Guys like Jeter, Wright and whoever else will only play in very specific situations or matchups, outside of garbage time or foul trouble. In that role, limited specialists make sense. There's no reason to be looking for more Beno-like minutes when Beno's on the court for 2/3 of the minutes, and those three guys are going to be able to cover the great majority of the available floor time. That's barring injury of course...

I agree with you. To my mind the depth is needed more for the possiblity of injuries than any other reason. Unless of course its possible to aquire a difference maker, which is still not out of the question, but looking more and more unlikely.

As soon as there's an injury of any length it doesn't work as well, because you have somebody playing a fuller role than intended. If we were a playoff team this year that would be more of a concern to me. For where we are, if there's an injury and we lose a few more games because of it, oh well, this year's about developing the core anyway.

With Wright, you have at least one very valuable specific skill that can be used in crucial situations-- good perimeter defense. You can put him in in end of game or end of quarter situations when you need to shut them down. And, he might develop in a more complete player down the road, but at least you've got a specific application for his skill set.

With Jeter, you've got a good 3rd string pg that brings a decent all around game, and is very quick. More of an insurance policy, and occasional sparkplug.

NBAPlaybook is doing a series of scouting reports on the international players coming over this year, and their breakdown of Jeter is very positive:

http://nbaplaybook.com/2010/07/29/overseas-scouting-report-pooh-jeter/

They use footage of his play in Israel to illustrate his skills.

Conclusion

Pooh Jeter is going to get a chance to be an effective player off the bench, and I think he will do that. In fact, I think if Jeter plays well, he can be that go to scorer in that second unit. He can play at either guard spot, and that versatility gives the Kings plenty of options. They can play him with Beno Udrih either off the ball or on the ball. They can also play him with Francisco Garcia where Garcia would play the two with Jeter playing the point.

The Kings got themselves a very explosive scorer in Jeter, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him put up a couple 20 point games off the bench.
Ok, I will have to read the rest of his reviews to get a feel for just how unrealistic this guy is, but the above is going to happen roughly as soon as monkeys start flying out of my butt, and the latter is going to draw far more news coverage.

Depends on the number of monkeys and whether it happens in public, I think.
