Well, despite how Krukow and Kuiper were trying to play it up, it probably wasn't intentional. Purpose pitches are almost universally thrown at the hips, not at the head. They are usually not thrown when there are two men already on base. And they are rarely thrown when the only apparent provocation was a brush-back pitch three innings earlier.
He's been a known head hunter his entire career. He might not have meant to hit his head but he definitely meant to go high and inside.
