SF Giants 2010

Gotta love opening day!! I know we had a Giants thread last year so I thought I'd get it going.

Timmay picks up right where he left off last year. 0 ER 7 K's

DeRosa with a homer in his debut.

Benji and Uribe with a couple hits.

Wilson with a save.

Hum Baby.

I've been watching major league baseball for a long time... Lincecum is a beast like no other. Just awesome. I don't think much of our prospects overall but if Zito could get his head out, this could be the pitching staff for the ages.

It was a great day for the Giants!!!

Tim was Cy good, offense was promising (we definitely can expect more runs with DeRosa and Huff) ... Even Edgar had almost 2 OPS :)

I don't want to rush to a conclusion but this team looks more dangerous this season.

Great start to the season... The Astros cant feel good about going into the next game with Cain on the mound.

Welcome to San Francisco, home of the greatest pitching staff in baseball!

Is it possible that the Bay Area/Northern California may have a winning sports team soon?!

I don't think we'll be hearing, "Lincecum and Cain and pray for rain" anymore - not with Zito, Sanchez and rest of the pitching staff looking great through spring training and what's now anticipated. Fingers crossed for a bang up season from best rotation in the NL West - by far.

Hopefully, a BIG bat can be picked up along the line as I think too much is dependent on Panda-man with Huff more of a 5 or more likely 6 place hitter instead of THE cleanup man.

To be honest with you the main thing I don't like about our offense right now is Rowand at lead off, he can't get on base and when he does it's not like he's fast enough to steal any bases. I knew his hot spring wouldn't carry over to the regular season, and I'd prefer seeing Velez or Torres playing for him. Unfortunately Rowand makes so much money that we couldn't bench him or get rid of him so we're stuck with him.

Rowand definitely is a weak link - overpaid, long contract, untradeable, jumped the shark offensively and defensively, kills you with double plays, doesn't run well and unfortunately I can continue this list. Conclusion: Kenny Thomas 3 years ago.

I hope that Renteria is healthy and his last year's struggles were really caused by a severe pain in his elbow. I don't believe in him that much - .275 is his max but still think that he can rebound from a pathetic 2009 season.

I like DeRosa - very solid defense, above average hitting, versatility, a 15HR-80RBI guy this year IMO.

Huff has been surprisingly Ok defensively so far and it is a compliment because he is a horrible defender. I think he can be a 20HR-90RBI guy for us.

It was a nice sweep but we have to admit that the Astros were horrible. I think our series against Atlanta will be the touchstone.

I am very excited about this season! Finally we have some offense to compliment our first class pitching.

I'm not a Giants fan by any means, I love the Red Sox.. Hands down my favorite team from where I'm from.

That being said, ever since I joined this board 3 years ago I've kind of kept tabs on the Giants, and I like the team they have this year. Talk about a sleeper team. If Zito can finally do something this year and Sanchez makes some of the progress Cain made last year, look out.

If everything stays as it is, Zito is the difference-maker. I think it is safe to say that we know what to expect from Tim and Matt, relievers, our improved but still unstable offense. Barry is an enigma. We need Zito to be a 15-10 guy this year.
It must be admitted that our impotent offense made him look that bad. This year he will get a better support and now it is up to him to step up.

For a split second I thought you were talking about that other guy called an enigma because of his personality - Barry Bonds;)

Zito's stuff (meaning the big sharp curve) has to be so precise for him to be consistently effective. When locked in he's definitely one of the top lefty's around. Unfortunately, even when he's on the Giants offense goes to sleep with Barry on the mound - at least for much of last season. If all that changes in 2010 and Sanchez lives up to his true potential no telling how far these Giants can take it.

Two good teams, two hot teams meeting this weekend in SF. Go Giants!

WOW!

Who is the man who replaced last years Rentaria with the guy we are seeing so far?! He was so bad last year! Great homer, great moment!

We already knew about our starting 5, but our bullpen is nails. They are a group of guys that will be mostly lights out this year.

Im excited about this team.

Weird day for Lince (and some G fans)!

I was near the Bay Area for a family commitment, it was pouring rain all day, I get home at 4:30 and check in a sfgiants.com which tells me the game has been rained out. Seeing the game was supposed to start at 1:00, I wasn't too shocked.

I wake up this morning and see Lince not only wins the game but K's ten in his second win of the season.

I wish I would have watched that!!!

Well, Rentaria has quickly crashed back down to the planet.

I can live with him not hitting, because honestly I never expected him to hit and have come to deal with that, but when you start missing double plays that Geno Velez could turn costing us runs, and probably the game...

Ugh.

Renteria is who he is. Unfortunately, he is too old (health and condition wise) to play SS. I am not sure he can play 2B at this stage of his career. He is not horrible but bad enough. At the same time, he is a better player than he was last year and it is his final year with us.

Usually you do not sign aging SSs for that kinda money but we all know our GM has some fetish for players that jumped the shark.

I was very upset that we lost to PIT yesterday because we have to sweep horrible teams to make the playoffs this year. Anyway, I am excited about the Giants because this team is finally good; may be not Philadelphia good but playoff good.

Vicente Padilla is a piece of ****. why the hell didn't we retaliate when he came up to bat?
Well, despite how Krukow and Kuiper were trying to play it up, it probably wasn't intentional. Purpose pitches are almost universally thrown at the hips, not at the head. They are usually not thrown when there are two men already on base. And they are rarely thrown when the only apparent provocation was a brush-back pitch three innings earlier.
