Tyreke Evans ROTY & 20/5/5 Watch

#64
+27 (-11) +15
-7 (+3) -4
+20 (+0) +20

- Points took a big hit, but I don't expect to see that to happen again.
- Awesome job on the boards; Reke just needs one more big rebounding game and he can average 5 the rest of the way.
- Assists are doing fine.

One more big rebounding game and we can just shut him down for the year. :)

Tonight: 20 pts, 6 asts, 1 reb.

Pts: +27 (0) +27
Ast: +20 (+1) +21
Reb: -7 (-4) -11

Reke now needs to get a couple more big rebounding games to get back closer to averaging 5, although the trending up assist numbers and efficient scoring (outside of FTs) aren't bad.

Wrong buddy.

+15 (+0) = +15 pts
-4 (-4) = -8 reb
+20 (+1) = +21 ast

His rebounding took a hit tonight, but he's still got plenty of time to make it up.

+15 (+0) = +15 pts
-4 (-4) = -8 reb
+20 (+1) = +21 ast
24/4/7

+15 (+4) = +19 pts
-8 (-1) = -9 reb
+20 (+2) = +22 ast

I'm pretty sure points and assists are safe. The only issue remains is his rebounding. There's lots of time left, but that's not to safe I'm not worried about him reaching the goal.

I'm also worried about him getting it. I really hope he gets those couple of monster rebounding games to give him a boost

Im not as worried about Evans averaging 20/5/5 as I am about him being the SOLE recipient of the ROY award. I swear that if Evans gets jobbed out of the award or if he is made to share it with Curry im going to be very angry lol. I dont think that .1 assist per game is going to determine whether or not Evans will be a superstar or not.

It's not about .1 anything making him a superstar. It's about being able to say Tyreke Evans is 1 of 4 players in history to avg. 20/5/5 in his rookie season along with Oscar Robertson, Michael Jordan, and Lebron James.

And not having to say...Tyreke Evans was ALMOST 1 of 4 players to avg 20/5/5/ in his rookie season.

I think the numbers are wrong.
Let's do the math again :)

Tyreke played 58 games so far.
So, in order to average 20/5/5 he must have :
58*20 = 1160 pts
58*5 = 290 reb
58*5 = 290 ast

According to his nba.com player page, he currently has 1180/281/315

So his +/- is :
1180-1160 = +20 pts
281 - 290 = -9 reb
315 - 290 = +25 ast

Is ROY a stats only thing? Because I don't think any of Reke's competion is near as good of a defender. Two way player with great stats beats Curry and the Golden State Shooters in my book.

In everybody's book around here. But its voted on by the media, so you need flashy baubles to show them. Its why Jennings has continued to be mentioned despite being awful for months -- he's flashy, put up a gaudy early season number, likes to show off with his haircuts. Media eat that stuff up. So putting up 20-5-5 would be a really nice, tangible bit of gaudy for Reke to dangle off his bumper when it comes time for the media to vote on this. It really is hard to see him missing it anyway, but I think few media members would dare vote against a guy who's only company was Oscar, Michael and LeBron.

So if he's 20-4-5, who's he in company with?

Interesting question -- never seen it broken down, althoguh I doubt it would add more than a few other very good players. Quite likely if you asked the question what players have averaged 20+ 4.9+ and 5+ you might get the same the same trio of all timers. Maybe there was one other guy close or something (I know Ron Harper for instance did 22.3pts 4.8reb 4.8reb as a rook). But its the power of round numbers. The reverse of why stores price things at $3.99 instead of $4.

I can virtually guarantee this -- only 1 other guy has ever done any of those numbers so young. That being LeBron.

Even if Reke doesn't achieve the 20/5/5/ averages, he's still ROTY in my eyes. The 20/5/5 would just be the icing on the cake - being in the company of Oscar, MJ, and LBJ would be all kinds of awesome.

I think the numbers are wrong.

Thanks man. I wanted to check his overall stats to see if maybe I tracked it wrong or if they changed any of his stats; I'm glad you brought it up.

Reke is averaging 5.6 rebs this month. Not sure what fall you are seeing. Had a down month in January. Injuries, disruption maybe. Maybe just a down month.

And Curry would have to average 28pts and 7rebs a game the rest of the way to get to 20-5-5 at this point.

As an aside, the Warriors are 3-8 this month. They dropped their last 5 in January. Not too worried about them surging behind a chuckfest. And Maggette returnign will change things again.
I want the Warrior to win. Them and Minni and Washington and all the other bottom feeders. Draft day is around the corner...
