All-Star Weekend / Rumors

#1
Interesting stuff being circulated around Dallas this weekend:

- The league has announced a moratorium on announcements regarding any trade agreed upon during the weekend.

- The Cavs appear to have closed in on some kind of deal, according to Chris Webber (via Kevin McHale). Spoken by Webber during a telecast on TNT, date: 2/11.

(for above info)http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2010/02/shaq_vs_to_return_for_second_s.html

- For some ungodly reason, it appears as though Troy Murphy has become a hot commodity: Kings, Bucks, and Cavs all interested (Pacers fans like us as trade partners best).

- Mavs and Wizards appear to have tentatively agreed on seven player trade: http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_a...3/mavs_wizards_have_tentative_trade_in_place/

- Amare looks to be the only star quality big likely to change jerseys before the deadline.

Anybody got some other stuff?

That is a sick deal for the Mavericks. Man they are stacked now...and they finally have a decent center in Haywood.

Kidd/Barea
Butler/Terry/Stevenson
Marion/Butler
Dirk/Marion/Haywood
Haywood/Dampier

That is a great rotation. Probably gonna be some chemistry issues though

Almost seems like there's not enough minutes to go around.

Haywood compliments Dirk perfectly and they'd finally have a 2 guard with normal sized. If they gel right they could become the favorites in the West IMO. Also if the Cavs pull off that Amare deal they could be ridiculously good.

An incredibly good trade for the Mavericks. They got crushed by Denver last year in the play-offs, but this trade makes them significantly better.

Obviously that would be a huge move for the Cavs.
What I find interesting is that a Kevin/KT package is a better package for the Suns than a Big Z/Hickson package. So if the Cavs/Suns deal goes down I'd have to assume that we don't have interest in Amare for that price.

It probably has a lot to do with us being in the same division too. Amar'e did say he was not interested in resigning with us as well. Lots of factors concerning our (non) involvement there. Oh well, competition for ya.

I don't like this trade for the Cavs standpoint. Hickson is a potential 18/9 player. But when your main guy is forcing his hand in this pivotal season, Ferry's gotta do this.
What's not to like? You lose Hickson, sure, but you drop big Z who has a very limited role on the team anymore and get back the the 2nd most athletic big man in the game. Pair him LeBron and you have the fastest, quickest, highest jumping front court in NBA history (Shaqenstein notwithstanding). With Varejoa doing the scrapping and rebounding that Amare won't and shooters like Williams and Parker knocking down threes, that team will be unstoppable. On paper at least.

Er what? They just got a 5x All Star for nothing more than an undersized young guy with upside and an ender -- if it happens of course.

And if I had a dollar for every "potential 20-10/potential 18-9" guy in this league I'd be a rich man.

For much of the season I've felt that Big Z was the Cavs best trading chip. Big Z can't really play on the court with Shaq, and with the money he's making this year the Cavs could definitely find a piece to give them a better chance at a championship.

If the Cavs are able to turn Big Z into Amare it's a huge upgrade for them.

They could even decide to go 'big' and play LBJ at the 2 spot at times.

PG: Mo Williams
SG: LBJ
SF: Amare
PF: Side-Show Bob
C: Shaq

Amare's increased his range enough to be able to space the floor at the SF position. Can you imagine pick-n-rolls between LBJ and Amare? I don't know how you'd be able to stop that.

Anyway, if the Cavs make this move then Boston will have to make a move to get rid of Allen. They are already on the bubble as far as elite teams and Amare to the Cavs completely tilts the balance of the East solidly into the Cavs favor.

Its hickson + 1st rouder(late) +Z.

So does this mean you'd go JT/Hawes + 1st(late, hypothetically if we had one) +KT for Amare?

In a New York minute, assuming of course we had reason to think we could keep him. That's peanuts. Chump change.

People highly underrate the value of star power. You're talking about a perennial All Star who could even make the HOF if Cleveland started winning titles with him there.

This All star game is kind of boring. Maybe because I have no rooting I interest and there definetly is a differnce between being there and watching on tv but the sold called energy from the stadium isn't translating all too well on tv. Maybe because of the size but there just seems to be a disconnect between the crowd and the game. Plus it's an All star game, despite it being a high scoring game already there really hasn't been any flair to it. The rookie-sophmore game was more entertaining

What do you guys think bout the kmart for ray allen rumours? I personally think if it helps us to shed Noc or Beno's contract (preferably Noc) I'd do it. I think Ray will help the team a lot more than Kevin for the rest of the season, and maybe also build up Reke's confidence in passing to team mates. I'm pretty sure Ray Allen will brick less open 3s than Kevin and Omri combined. Only problem is of course, it doesn't really clear up the logjam straight away. But I'd trade Martin for Allen over Martin for Tmac.

Maybe Ray can teach reke a thing or two bout shooting...
