I think a lot of nicknames nowadays are way too forced; as if someone sits on their computer and wonders what witty way they can do some wordplay with a last name (check out that alliteration).
To me, the best nicknames are ones that come spontaneously as a byproduct of a play that represents the player.

I have several friends that are Lakers fans. Guess what they posted on twitter in both the wins against the Kings??
The Black Mamba strikes again down the stretch after the first game and...
The Black Mamba strikes again after the game winner. LA fans use that nickname on a regular basis as do sportscasters when referring to Kobe at times. Not sure where you got the idea that nicknames such as that don't stick.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't think The Hebrew Hammer is force, and it is descriptive. The Hebrew part is self explanatory and he is a tough player and will hammer people. It spontaneously shot out of my mouth the first time I saw go at someone hard.
Overall I don't care if other people use it. My friends and I will.

Very similar to the "The Elliptical Summer Squash" nickname that just shot out of my mouth the first time I saw Sean May play, and nearly as catchy.
