Donte Greene/Jon Brockman

#3
Can they get more minutes!!!!!!!!???????????

Brockman - Amazing what our team can do when we have a big man in the paint doing WORK

Greene - Vastly improved, looking like a REAL steal now. Slowing down LBJ, Kobe, Carmelo in crunch time... That speaks for itself. Our best defender and probably one of our most dynamic scorers in the future... Bright future for this kid

Greene - Who would of thought between last year and this year, we all questioned his seriousness and work ethic. He wasn't a good defender last year but he was determined to be a stopper. I'm proud of the progress he has made.

Brockman - What can you say, he fights for every ball. He goes harder than everyone, undersized doesn't matter to the guy, he is gonna impose his will on the opponent and that makes him the big guy and the other guys undersized.

We have Paul Westphal and an excellent coaching staff to thank for that. If he's not in contention for COY, there's something wrong...

As far as Brockman goes, I'm glad his parents were in Arco tonight. They got to see their son get a standing ovation from the Arco faithful!

Brockman and Spencer need to trade minutes.

Have him in there bangin for boards and tiring down the opponent with hard fouls, then bring in a fresh Hawes to close it out.

Westphal doing a great job, so hard to question what he is doing.... but i will anyways:)

Why does Donte disappear in the middle of the game? He got off to a great start, both offensively and defensively. Then he comes out and seems to disappear until the end of the game. This seems to happen often... why?

I suspect Westphal was saving him for crunch time. He is our best defender and ideal match up for Melo. The last thing we would want is Donte in foul trouble come crunch time. Thats the way I saw it anyway.

One problem wiht that theory: he only had 1 foul the entire game. :p

Just a bizarre thign there tonight. I mean Casspi struggled. Sergio just sucked. And yet Donte sat. I mean... huh?

Yeah, I was at the game and definitely wanted to see Donte more. His defense on Melo was great--you can really see the difference in height and length versus guys like Udoka.

Gotta love the Brock Ness Monster, too. Great win.

I remember last year when Miller and a couple of other players made statements about not knowing what their rolls were. This year Westphal took Donte aside and told him that he needed him to become a good defender. He defined his roll on the team. Everyone on this team seems to know what their roll is. Westphal deserves a big round of applause. And just maybe the coach of the year award..

This puzzled me as well. Casspi was finally playing like a rookie and Donte was looking like a seasoned vet out there. It's not like Casspi was playing better defense on Melo than Donte was.

I was wondering where he was there towards the end thinking he had been playing pretty well earlier in the game. As soon as he got in there he keys us to the win(at least partially). I had the thought that maybe Coach Westphal forgot he was sitting there and how well he played in the first half...That was the only explanation I could come up with:confused::confused:.

I hate seeing Donte taken out 8-10 minutes of the 1st/3rd quarters only to be seen again with a couple of minutes left in the 2nd/4th, especially when he was having as good a game as he had tonight.

With that said, Westphal has been doing that with Donte for the entire season. It seemed to start when Donte started at the SG with Beno then coming in for relief and then Donte not getting much time due to the very good play of Beno at the SG and Casspi at the SF spots.

It's very possible that Westphal is still doing it in 'head scratching' fashion even in games like tonight because it's been a rhythm established and so he just goes with it.

It obviously worked tonight as we got the win, but I think we'd have had a better chance down the stretch against the Cavs if Donte had been in instead of Beno, as that would have forced a mis-match for Mo Williams.

Regardless, I hate to see it, and I hope to see it not happen as frequently. I get it if Donte is playing poorly or being unfocused, but his play to start the game was superb, and his play to end the game was superb. I'd like for him to be getting more minutes in the middle of these games.

As this is also an 'Any Questions' thread for Brockman I just have to re-iterate what everyone else has been saying. Brockman is an Impact player. Not on Offense or Defense but in the Intangibles of Hustle, Energy, Toughness, and the driving desire to leave your Opponent Beaten and Broken on the Court. It doesn't always show itself in the statsheets (though 10 rebounds is nice), but it will be a rare thing to find him in the game and not hear his name mentioned while making plays.

There is just a ton to be excited about, and it might seem odd, but I think I was just as excited about the losses to the Cavs and the Lakers as I am with this win against Denver. I mean, we showed we were a good team, and now we've got an extra win in the column to prove it tonight. If we can keep things up things are just going to get better.

heart, soul, passion, energy, fight, determination, grit, whatever u want to call it...comes from your own individual personality DNA makeup that makes us all unique...can softie hawzie turn into that fire breathing dragon dominating in the paint force that we all want and see in the brockster? time will tell but for now i think he is what he is...and that is a serviceable backup center until we find a starter who has those personality traits.

I think Paul answered all your questions in the post game tonite. He said Dante plays better when things are tough. He tends to lose focus when things start to go easy.

Has to be why he keeps him out till he is needed and the situation demands his focus. Dante will be a great player but is still learning the game. Think he could be our best player even better then tyreke. If he gets it all together.
