Some love for JT the Kid

Yes Tyreke Evans is incredible. There is no doubt in my mind he wins ROY, and we're extremely fortunate to have landed a goldmine at PG. And yes, Omri Casspi has exceeded all reasonable expectations and performed at a level of a top 5 or 6 rookie in the league. His shooting percentages are unreal at his age, andI think we found ourselves the steal of the draft when it's all said and done.

That all being said, I think that Jason Thompson is having a fantastic sophomore campaign and deserves a lot more credit and recognition from the Kings faithful and the national media for this team's dramatic turnaround from last season. 15.5 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 2.1 apg, and 1.1 bpg on .515 from the field are numbers that few others of his age and size are putting up right now.

He has gotten much improved on finishing around the basket the last handful of games - something he got a lot of heat for, and rightfully so - and he seems to be playing with a level of consistency and composure recently that leaves me to think the "chicken with his head" rap he gets should be reconsidered.

His jumper's much more consistent then it was to start the season, his arsenal of post moves is much more polished and controlled then it once was, and he still always gives 100% on the court every game I've watched.

Now I get we have some pretty damn impressive rookies. And they are fun to watch. But Thompson, in my mind, has played an intregal part in our turnaround and should be seen in a spotlight not much dimmer than Tyreke's.

We've got ourselves at least a 18-10-2-1 PF for many years to come, and I just think he should be acknowledged for his stepped-up performance this year maybe a little more than he's getting.

So here's to you, JT.

Jason Thompson
PPG RPG BPG
15.5 9.3 1.1

Al Horford
PPG RPG BPG
13.3 9.5 1.3

I have always compared JT to Al Horford... because their about the same size and have about the same abilities.

the sports world/Media love Al Horford but honestly I think i'd rather have JT... but to be fair JT is getting the respect and attention he deserves now (pretty much).

I wanna just say again how much better his numbers would be if he wasn't having to be the only legit big on this team and that means offense and defense... and how much he would improve if we had another scoring threat down low to take the heat off JT on offense and also someone that could take the heat off on the defense end.

Jason Thompson will be one of the elite power forwards in this league in a couple of years. The Kid is just on his second year and averaging almost a double-double. If you consider the extra-ordinary effort he is doing on improving his game, his winning character of giving all-out effort both on defense and offense night-in and night-out, and being blessed with the extra-ordinary energy, I think there is no celing for this Kid.

I wouldn't be surprized if Thompson becomes an All-Star early on his career.

I think if I have to choose players who can be credited for the teams turn around, Jason Thompson will be on the top two on my list.

I'm as big a JT homer as the next guy but I think people need to calm down just a little bit.

JT != Horford. Horford is a much better defender then JT. Like several notches above JT.

JT has had better touch lately and it starting to click with Tyreke and take advantage of it. He still plays out of control and gets most of his points and rebounds off pure hustle alone. He still has issues boxing out, he gets an inflated rebound total for his misses inside the paint that he gets back, and he rarely uses any post moves.. JT has a long way to go before All-Star status. The good news is, most of these things will come with time and he will more than likely be a very good PF in this league. The problem is he's still is very mentally unstable player and things get to him very easily... That needs to change for him to take it to the next level

That being said, I think he is under-valued so far this year but that's just due to Tyreke. Some consistancy will go a long way

Horford is astud defender. Taht's the x-factro the numbers don't show. If Jason could defend anyone he would be a very solid PF. Twitchy on offense, but solid in the ways you need him to be. Until he can do that though he has solid numbers, but in game he's up down and all around in impact.

Key thing really with him is that in the absence of anyone else, he's the big man wingman for Reke most night. Not a great one by anyu stretch, but the most consistent one we have. Combined with the chemistry amongst the young guys, makes him integral.

I'm surprised that he is not getting enough appreciation by the kings fans. He's whole new player offensively this year. Give him credit at least for that!

When was the last time you watched a game? His post and midrange games have been very impressive recently, and he's even been brining the ball up and initiating the offense. I think he's our most reliable player.

He's been on a strong streak again, but...no. That is not one of the words you find in the dictionary next to his name.

He is, however, our most reliable big. That's not saying much, but he's as close to a rock as we have inside.

I watch every single game, what exactly have you been watching? I never discounted his mid-range game at all. His post skills are off and on, and so is his touch around the basket. His initiating the offense just started 2 games ago and it hasn't ended well most of the time. Being reliable means we can count on him his production every game. He is streaky this season and still plays too fast which costs him easy baskets at times.

Don't get me wrong and take this like I'm trying to discount JT into being a scrub, JT is my favorite player on the kings roster currently, but I guess I see where his weaknesses are still while others don't. That's fine.

JT isn't reliable yet, but he is probably one of the catalysts for our team. If JT is having a double-double game then we're competitive. If JT is having a bad game then we're probably looking at getting blown out.

I've been pretty happy with JT this season, but sometimes he is still wild and out of control or tries some soft stuff around the basket that misses.

His jumper is sweet and he does have one or two fairly smooth post moves. As others have said he doesnt box out well and still hasnt figured out defense. Should be interesting to see how he develops as a defender this year.

I am usually not a big fan of JT, but I will admit, he started the comeback, as at a certain point, he was the only one hitting jumpers, especially with time winding down.
