Holy disappointing followups Batman.
Well, I have been convinced by the anti-misogny set that I may in fact have been responsible for tonight's performance. Not, however, because of some mystical balance of the universe crap, but rather simply because I posted a bunch of pics of pretty girls and its quite clear that our young and therefore still hormone driven team probably came over to check on their grades and ended up staying up all night, um, pondering them. I have no other way to explain the lack of energy. So at the advice of a fellow poster I have decided to take steps to insure it does not happen again. Ugly should beget ugly right?
So here you go ladies:
Casspi ( B ) -- well, at least starting off with one of the few non-blights of the game, but maybe still less effective than his scoring numbers alone would indicate. Because on scoring numbers alone Omri is 2 for 2 on scoring 20+ pts in starts. Got to the line a lot early, and battled inside for a couple of tough boards on the other end. Last time we would see that however as he eventually put together a line Peja or Kevin would have been proud of at 21pts 3reb 1ast. In the late 2nd quarter was getting post up opportunities as he was repeatedlhy guarded by little PGs, but results were mixed. Was the focus of our offense in the early 3rd as we tried to make a little run. Hit two quick hoops but also followed with two misses miss. Was back in late in the quarter to spalsh in the jumper at the end of the 3rd, and had an energetic start to the 4th. But led nowhere, and really at no point on the night did Omri show up on defense either as his men pretty much matched him point for point. So a strong secodn start and better than any other starter, but on this night that didn't mean brilliance.
Thomas ( C ) -- and as I mentioned pregame, KT's appearance in the starting lineup is the ultimate confirmation of Spencer's doghouse status. Got worked by Jefferson in the post right off the start, then threw a bad outlet pass for a turnover, and other than one tip back offensive board it was looking like a disastrous move. We had no offense while he was in and Hawes was in soon after to show off why he did not get the start. In the third came out better and locked in on defense. Was also playing a bit of what appeared to be unwelcomd coach with Spencer, really chatting him up after Spence got beat on defense and had to foul Jefferson. Came up with back to back good defensive plays to start the 4th, a poke steal and then a block, that keyed a quick 4pt burst for us. Not able to contain Jefferson as the Wolves went back to him to regain control however, and never did have any impact on the boards where we got creamed (and seem to be slowing down somewhat). Did a few little things, made a few saavy plays to make this better than the anemic numbers indicate. But you can't get 0pts 3rebs out of a starting anything and expect to win many games.
Thompson ( C+ ) -- for the second straight game put up pretty good numbers without me feeling like he truly had that great a game. The key again being not his own numbers, but those of his opponent(s). Early in the game got back to back 16 footer jumpers as Reke kicked to him when he was cut off on drives. But played some seriously sad defense on soon to be out of the league scrub Ryan Hollins, just letting him have free runs at the hoop for pretty much the only shot he can make. In the second quarter threw a good outlet to Beno on the break and we even occasionally had him bring the ball up, although that really did not seem to accomplish much. Did not feel a double coming at the end of the 2nd and got stripped for the dunk on the other end. Scored well, but got pummeled on the glass by Love, the second game in a row he's just been muscled out of the way like a little kid on the big kid's playground. Finished up with 18 and 9 and we needed everyone of them, but Love put up 20 and 16 and there was no comparson in the imapct of the 2 games.
Greene ( D+ ) -- well, in a performance that had some people calling for an F...didn't quite see it that way. It was a mess, but it was an energetic mess on a night when basically nobody else had any. Missed a couple of open threes to start, and compounded things by bricking a pair of FTs again. Was instantly replaced by Beno. Back in for the last play of the 3rd and the early 4th. Made a great defensive board...then let it get slapped away for the layup + foul. Went to the bench but was back a few minutes later and again tried to bring wild energy, which at least was better than the no energy we were getting elsewhere. But energy or not, just could get nothing going aat all on offense, chucked up another long 3pt brick, could not finish layups inside and then capped it by missing another pair of FTs (for an 0-4 night from the line) to close things. Finished up with a bizarre 0pts on 0-7FG 0-43pt and 0-4FTs, but with 7rebs 4ast. Its hard to say what that is, but I'm calling it a D+ -- a bad game with a few redeeming characteristics.
