Neither Billups nor Parker are truly deserving this year, and just may not be room. In the West you are talking:

Kobe
CP3
Deron
Nash

as locks barring injury

leaves 1 guard spot for Roy/Parker/maybe Tyreke/Billups, and it would probably be for someone who can play some SG
Sadly just the name of Roy/Parker/Billups is almost definitely going to beat out Tyreke. Soon, though, very soon...

Billups has to be a lock with Denver 2nd in the conference, and with Billups having such potent name value.
Parker is having a down year but he still is Parker and still has very respectable numbers on a team that doesnt produce potent offensive numbers. I want Reke in there as much as the rest but he is clearly in a different tier as these two.

that's true -- he's better than either of them.

Ironically the fate of these playes may not depend on their own play so much as their team's. If we stay around .500 as a surprise team, Reke will ahve a shot because generally they like to represent as many fo the good teams as they can. If the Spurs continue to hover around .500 as a major disappointment, taking a 2nd Spur to go along Withy duncan no longer becomes a lock. If Denver remains up the standings Chauncey hitting the wall and maybe starting the age decline gets washed over. If they stumble, it gets highlighted as the reason etc.

And of coruse if there are any injuries to any of the above named guys it opens things up.

First All-Star Ballot Returns

Whoever said voting was a waste of time, I'm starting to agree with you. Every year I forget how monumentally stupid this whole thing is. Tracy McGrady is the second-leading vote getter amongst guards and he hasn't even played a single game. Gerald Wallace doesn't even make the list of the top 11 forwards in the East and he's leading the entire NBA in rebounds per game right now as a SF? Luol Deng and Michael frickin Beasley have more votes? Who is placing these votes? If Tyreke Evans played for LA he'd be a lock. So stupid.

The fact that Gerald Wallace is not in the top 11 of East Forwards is a complete sham. Dude is having one helluva year. Don't get me started on the whole Tmac 2nd thing.

That's always the deal. The fan voting really should be abolished because most of the alleged "fans" don't have any idea whatsoever what they are talking about, normally just voting for whatever name they recognize, or anybody on their favorite team etc. Of course happens here too -- people earlier in this thread talking about voting 4 Kings or whatnot, and obviously that's ridiculous. In any case, merit is irrelevant. Hype and geography everything. But the NBA keeps the sham fan voting up front so the fans can feel involved, and just tries to correct things via the coaches votes.

I should note BTW that if the TMac thing were to actually hold, and itf TMac makes it back in time, that would proabbly scuttle any chances for Reke. Throw in the one ridiculously unqualified guard, and the numbers get too tight.

I was disgusted with All-Star voting the year Vince Carter made the team and hadn't played all year. It's why I wouldn't vote for Kevin this year. It's a popularity contest, virtually unrelated to perfomance. As far as I'm concerned, the players that are selected as "reserves" by the coaches are much more likey to be worthy of an All-Star appearance.

NBA All Star Voting

I have been voting every day for Tyreke and JT. I stay away from voting for Western Guards. I can't bring myself to vote for Hawes. I just can't.

But what I don't understand is why Blake Griffin's name is on the ballot but not Tyrekes? To me this just shows the NBA's Bias for bigger markets and bigger market players. Nothing against Griffin, I think he will be an all star type player when healthy and actually playing but to be put on the ballot when he hasn't even played 1 official NBA game yet and meanwhile the #4 pick is killing it and by all acounts leading for ROY, yet has to be a write in is just awful. Like they are steering people's votes towards one market and away from another.

how hard would it be for them to just put his name on the ballot? not sure why but this really pi$$es me off.

Not the way it works -- there are no late adds to the ballots. Everybody on the ballots is determined by some group of media types before the seaosn even begins, and that's just who gets on. Obviously electronically it does not matter and they could/should have everybody. But the paper ballots still distributed only have a certian mount of space and are probably printed up longt before voting begins.

Yeah I am talking about online only. and this would be my point exactly, that the NBA should maybe try and have a little integrity when it comes to this stuff. I mean I know it's the NBA and it's about style and image but to fans in the smaller markets it's a really big deal(much bigger than big markets IMO) to have one of their "deserving" players rightfully selected or at least in the discussion to represent their team at the game.

Maybe they should hold off until the 1st or 2nd month to start the voting process to see if some of the people are even playing. or have a minimum games played clause.

How in the world is Tmac voted in as a starter? Who are these idiots that are voting for him? He hasn't played all year and he's the epitome of overrated.
