Don't tell me my beloved Sacramento is now a crytown instead of a cowtown.

Instead of bringing cowbell to Arco next time, let's bring tissues.

the Truth Is That Is A Phrase That Phil Jackson Used To Manipulate The Officials In The Playoffs To Get Calls For His Flashy And Glamorous Fakers! What He Was Saying Is That We Shouldn't Be Getting Any Calls Because Sacramento Is A Backward Noplace Nowhereville, And The Fakers Were The Ones Who Deserved All The "close" Calls Because They Were From The 2nd Largest Tv Market In America (just Checked We Are 20th Now. At The Time We Were Like 24th... Oh, And Zanesville Oh Is Ranked 203rd!!)

So That Is The Reason Many Of Us Dont Like The Connotation Of "cow Town" Put On Sacramento, Because It More Than Likely Caused Dick Bavetta (the Company Man) To Make Many More Calls In The Fakers Favor In Game 6 Of The 2002 Playoffs. But The Fact Of The Matter Is, It Doesn't Matter Anymore. The Lakers Have Won More Championships Since Then, The Kings Feel Cheated As They Should, But Haven't Gotten Close To Reaching That Level Of Basketball Since. Not Even Close. That Was Sacramento's Moment In The Light, And We Did Not Succeed. Doesn't Matter Why. Cheated, Froze Up. Officiating. It Doesn't Matter. And It Will Always Stick In Our Craw That The Fancy 2nd Largest Tv Market Fakers Got Their Calls And Won The Championship (and Rubbed It In Our Face No Less) The Truth Is We Will Always Know That The 2002 Kings Were The Real Champions That Year.the Kings Would Have Beaten The Nets In 5. It Is A Sad Reality.

So Cow Town Is Fighting Words For Some. A Bitter Reminder For Others. For Me It Is A Hope That Burns In Me That Someday While I Still Live, I Get To See The Kings Hoist That Nba Trophy Over Their Heads! And That Peja And Web And Bibby And All The 2002 Team Be Allowed To Touch That Trophy On Tv To Honor What Was Lost But Really Won. I Dream About The Day That Happens. I Know That Every Person In Sacramento Who Roots For The Kings Dreams Of A Day Of Atonement For The Kings. It Would Be Extra Special If They Had To Beat The Lakers To Get To The Finals! But To Come Home For The Victory Parade, And To Have Those Old Players From 2002 Get To Touch That Trophy, Just To Touch It... That Would Be One Of The Greatest Days Of My Life To See That. And So I Root For The Kings And Hope They Are On The Right Track, Because I Am Getting Older. I Want To See That Victory Parade Down Middle Of Town To The Capitol. I Want The Maloofs To Hold That Trophy Up And For Gavin To Say "this Is For 2002 As Well !!"

There! I Said It! And I Am Not Taking It Back! Any Faker Fans In The House? You Can Either Admit I'm Right Or You Can Continue To Live In The Lie That Kobe And Shaq Live In! I Really Dont Think They Believe That Ring Is For Real. They Probably Look At That Ring A Little Differently Than The Others! I Bet They Do!
I Have A Dream!!!!!! And It Is Beautiful!!!! Just Beautiful!!!!

Interesting...

Where I come from a "cowtown" is known as a place full of ignorant hicks, not necessarily cows. I love Chris Webber (one of my ALL TIME favorite players), but his statement bothered me a little. Maybe here in Sac, it means something different. I'm originally from Tennessee, so...

The same definition is pretty much applicable out here, too. It is generally a term of disparagement. I don't think Webb meant it as an insult in this case, though. I think he really meant to discuss small markets versus big markets.

Sounds good, Kennadog.

Did you guys read Ailene Voison's take on his "cowtown" comment, yesterday? She was coming down on him a bit hard... I guess she still has some ill feelings toward the guy. You think??

The question is what is A Cow-town? Is it a synonym for small market or redneck ignorant place?
IMO Webber just meant that Sacramento is one of the NBA small markets a-la San Antonio, Utah and so on. I do not see anything offensive. Sacramento is what Sacramento is and it is not New York or Vancouver. However, I think that Sacramento has many advantages over most small market areas and the main thing is that the city is not in the middle of nowhere. Just short drive away and you can get to Napa, San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, beautiful small coastal towns.

However, I must say that Sacramento is going down :(. I visit Sacramento and San Francisco a lot because my Mom moved to NorCal from Europe after retirement 5-6 years ago and every time Sacto gets worse and worse. The Downtown looks like a trash can and it was not like that 5 years ago when I first visited the city - closed stores, flying trash and plastic sachets, unfinished contraction everywhere, cracked pavements.

It's all in good fun. I was just thinking to myself "This is the type of thread that I expect to take on life during TDOS, but not in-season."

This remark shouldn't be taken personally. I can't imagine it was intended as a slight at anyone.

People's perception is that Sacramento is a 'cow town', even though that perception isn't even close to accurate. Regardless, perception is reality for a lot of people.

Could Webber have chosen his words better? Sure, if he had a do over I'm sure he would.

That said, how many people in here have said something they wish they wouldn't have at one point or another? How would you like the media to grab what you said and say that's your official stand point?

This is another example of the media creating a story where there shouldn't be a story, and it's very lame. KCRA should be ashamed of themselves for sensationalizing this, but it's the media after all, I guess it's just par for the course.

If life has taught me anything, it is that there is absolutely nothing that someone will not take offense to.

Can we just let this stupid thread die now? Sacramentans...grow some skin. I am an ex-pat, but gotta say the rampant insecurity thing just isn't becoming.
