Olympics considering Rugby, softball, baseball and golf

Seems Rugby and golf have passed their preliminary selection and soft/baseball did not. No surprise there as softball is mostly a US sport and baseball is dominated by only few countries: USA, Japan, Korea, Venezuela and Dominican Republic.

Biggest item against soft or base ball selection is its lack of support in Europe which has 7 of 15 members of the selection committee while the USA has 0, yep nada, zero members on same committee. Which would seem to play against Chicago getting selected for 2016 in a couple of months.

several sources for this: ESPN, SI, USA Today, AP, etc

No softball but they have room to add women's boxing?

I can understand pulling baseball for the reasons you state but women's team sports shouldn't be as quick to be pulled since many countries only just began their programs and the Olympics are their major venue. I'm not always the biggest fan of some of the women's versions of my favorite sports but this just strikes me as a horrible thing.

I am very disappointed about the softball decision. And I have no desire whatsoever to see women's boxing.
