Look, we both want the same things. I'm just more realistic than you are. We are in a rebuild! Can we at least agree on that. If we can, then its safe to say that our record is going to reflect that. Its very difficult to do it in one or two years. It has been done, but it requires luck. Like sucking for one year and having Tim Duncan sitting there at the top of the draft board. Or, you're in a major market and its easier to attract big time free agents. And even that doesn's help if your present team is really bad and your way over the cap thanks to bad management. AKA the Knicks. Now we can agree or disagree on when the rebuild should have started, or when it actually started. Without actually talking to Petrie, its pretty much subjective.

So I don't think the team sucks. I don't really like that phrase anyway. It should be applied to vacuum cleaners and other things I can't mention. But I agree that the team will more than likely have a bad record. Not as bad as last year, but I seriously doubt it will be good enough to make the playoffs. Now that may bitterly disappoint you, because thats the standard you've set for the coming year. At least it sounds that way. But it doesn't disappoint me. No realistic fan would expect the team to make the playoffs this year. But I damm well expect them to be a lot better. I want the assists to go up and the turnovers to go down. I want the team to out rebound most of the teams they play, and if not outrebound them, then at least stay even with them. I want our offense to look like, well, an offense. Like we have an actual plan out there. Ditto the defense!

In other words, I have hope. Now I want the team to give me reason for having that hope. If they don't, I'll be as critical as you are. But right now, other than we don't have a backup center, or we haven't made any sexey moves, I don't have anything to criticize. I could play the " Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda " game like you, but it doesn't accomplish anything. Does it really make you feel better? When did you start watching the Kings and become a fan? I'm just curious if you were a fan from the get go. Because they really stunk there for a while. I was there from the beginning, sitting in that warehouse with the loudameter hanging in the middle of the arena.

With the ownership we had then, and the league appointed GM, I thought the team was doomed for all eternity. But at least I was getting to watch NBA basketball. I guess I just have a different mentality. When I was a kid and my St. Louis Cardinals baseball team went from 5th place to 4th place in one year, I thought that was a sucess. I saved my allowance for streetcar fare and a ticket into the bleachers. I went on sundays because they were always doubleheaders. Two for the price of one. It didn't get any better. But when I was at the game, I never once thought about where my team was in the standings, or what the win would do for them in the overall picture. Yeah, I wanted them to win, but more than anything else, I enjoyed the game. One of the most exciting games I ever attended, my Cardinals lost to the Cinn. Reds 19 to 15. Stan Musial hit three home runs in the loss. And that was the first game of a doubleheader.

Anyway, I sincerely hope you find a little joy out of the coming season. And if not, you don't have to be a " I told you so ". I think we all know what you think. PS. I live in Ensenada. Your more than welcome to come down and watch the games with me. BYOB! :D
damn... thats a mouth full right there... but i became a kings fan when jwill was drafted. i liked his game in college and i couldnt wait to see him in the nba. it was just my luck that the team he ended up on also landed 2 other players that i liked, webber and divac. so i was set from that point on i had a team with 3 players that i really liked and they were underdogs.... so i have been a kings fan for 10-11 years now. im only 26 so dedicating 10 years to anything is a long term commitment.

i dont expect them to make the playoffs this year. i just want to see them compete for a chance at making the playoffs. we couldnt say that they were competing last season. you would have to be insane to say that they were. but i dont see how they can compete for a spot next year with the team that they have.

i will be happy if this team ends up with a late lottery pick. that means that they werent the worst team in the league and that they are one step closer to making the playoffs.

I may have the lowest expectations around here. I'll be ecstatic, even if we are in last place, but the arena deal gets a green light and the Kings will stay in Sacramento. ;):D

Ha Ha, I love the 10 year commitment comment. I understand, its almost have your life. I just turned 68 last July 20th. Man, I hate the sound of that. When you think about it, I probably have more to be pesimistic about than you do. Who knows if the team will return to greatness while I'm still alive. At least you have youth on your side. I plan on living to be 100 though, so there's hope.

J. Will was one of my favorites coming out of college too, and he did as much as anyone else to put sacramento on the map. There wasn't a night that went by that didn't have a J. Will highlight on ESPN. My favorite being the night he froze Payton and went right by him. Ahhh the good old days. :)

So am I sensing a Kumbaya moment between bajaden and AriesMar27? ;)

One of the reasons I've always loved Kingsfans.com is for the spirited debate that generally ends up with people realizing bottom line they do have one thing in common - for whatever reason, they are part of the Kings fan family. It might be a dysfunctional family at times, but it's OUR family!

:D

but ive been a kings fan for all of 10 years, they've been competetive for maybe 4 of those 10. and that was the first 4 years.
I think this is where living in Laker land has affected how you view things. The Kings had a winning record and went to the playoffs in 7 of those 10 seasons. That is considered "competitive" by most fans of teams around the league. I know that LA doesn't consider a season successful unless they win the Championship, but most teams don't have that luxury.

I know that the goal every year is to win a Championship, but going to the playoffs is being competitive IMO.

I love how GP kicked out his leg to try and trip JDub when he made that move on him. JDub was hard, man that kid had some game.

Laker fans are some of the most spoiled fans in all of professional sports. I know, growing up a huge Magic Johnson fan. That doesn't change the fact that there should be some knowledge and humility when associated with being a fan of the game. It's called respect of the game, and most Laker fans don't really have that.

So I can understand how AM27 can be so downtrodden when it comes to his view of the Kings situation. I have given him as hard, if not harder, time than anyone else. Being around those kinds of fans can give you a serious sense of urgency.

AM27 I need you to understand this. You said you are 26 or so. Dude, you realize that you have at least 60 years more basketball to watch? In less than 5 years I predict you will be seeing your Kings playing in at least the 2nd round of the playoffs. Tyreke is going to be the guy who sets this team apart from mediocre and semi decent squads. When you have a guy that can handle the ball well and either find somebody for a good look or score/get fouled it becomes HUGE down the stretch of ball games. The other guys, especially the front court once they get some time playing together and get a feel for how they need to play at an nba speed cohesively, will do an excellent job of keeping up with the players they are matched up with, if not exceeding their opponents level of play.

Kobe, Lamar, Artest, Gasol all have a closing window. It's shutting almost as fast as Boston's. Orlando, Cleveland and to a lesser extent Miami are geared to start taking over the Nba within the next 2-3 years. The Lakers will probably repeat, but they are going to have to go through Dallas, San Antonio and Denver to get there, not to mention upstart Portland.

Petrie is being smart in that he is getting this team together, all through the draft no less, and ready to make a great run for the championship starting in about 5 years and lasting for at least another 3-5 years after that.

So sit back, enjoy the ride. The rebuild is almost complete, now comes the fun part : watching it come together.

i dont know... the lakers will eventually have a real rebuild period but they might win 2 more rings before that happens unless lebron finally takes over the game.

I have a feeling that just before Kobe's era is over...the Lakers will somehow will be able to get the peaking Lebron.

Worse case - if Evans turns out to be a franchise type player, comes that time he will be signing a contract extension with the Kings, somehow the Lakers will be able to steal him from us.

lol...j/k :p

im sorry but Evans is under contract for the next 5 years, it would be impossible for anyone to steal him without committing a felony. i like how this post starts off.....Worst CASe - ....Evans turns out to be a franchise player...
