Man, was hoping he'd go to the Spurs so someone could give the Lakers more competition this year. Not sure what this means for Kendrick Perkins, and I'm assuming Big Baby will sign elsewhere. Then again, Bill Simmons has been speculating that KG's injury is worse than disclosed, possibly career-threatening, so maybe he's on to something and Sheed is important insurance at PF, too.

I thought so too. He would have been a better addition for the Spurs, they could have had a very potent high and low post game. Nice addition definitely for the Celtics..he could play 4 or 5 for them and especially if Garnett is out again next season.

there must be something wrong with that report -- according to that story you have a NBA player actually signing a reasonable contract, both in $$ and years, for what he is reaosnably worth, and which does not pay him until age 40. There has to be a typo in there somewhere.

Mavs, Gortat come to verbal agreement?

Restricted free-agent center Marcin Gortat flew to Dallas on Thursday after giving the Mavericks a verbal commitment to sign an offer sheet with them Wednesday, according to NBA front-office sources.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Mavericks are bringing Gortat to town to tour the area and the team's facilities after extending him an offer believed to be worth Dallas' full mid-level exception -- which could translate to a five-year deal, with a first-year salary of roughly $5.8 million -- in hopes of dissuading the Orlando Magic from matching the offer.

I read that wrong at first, too. I think Bricklayer is saying the contract keep going until he's 40, which is a good thing. Not that the contract waits until he is 40 to pay him.

Ack... somehow there were some words in my head but not in my post. The contract does not keep going until he is 40.

So unlike some ridiculous contracts that last forever, this one is only three years and ends while Bibby will still likely to be a good player.

The Raptors will extend the contract of Andrea Bargnani on a five-year deal starting in the 2010-2011 season.

The contract will be worth $50 million.

i know he isn't a free agent but it's news.

I think it's a mistake to sign the Birdman for 5 years. Reasonable salary, but that's a bit long for someone who's been out of the league due to the drug policy and then triumphantly returned for 1 big season

The Mavericks have signed guard Quinton Ross to an undisclosed contract.
Ross, a Dallas native, has spent the last five years with the Clippers and Grizzlies.
Dallas president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said the guard's athleticism, defensive versatility and experience add depth to the team's backcourt.

Zaza Pachulia has agreed to terms on a long-term deal with the Hawks, according to a pair of sources.
The center has spent the last four seasons in Atlanta, playing under a $16 million deal. The contract is believed to be the same length, but for significantly more money.

Trevor Ariza is overpaid. Houston messed up on this one. They could go after Marvin Williams, Matt Barnes, Dahntay Jones, etc., and probably sign two backup swingmen for what they're paying Ariza. He's not as good as he looks.

It's not five years, $40 million. He's barely gonna be making over $5 mil per. Even if he doesn't last that long, for whatever reason, the contract will be moveable.

Antonio McDyess will sign a two-year deal with the Spurs, sources told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday afternoon.
The deal will be for the midlevel exception, approximately $11.7 million over the next two seasons.
McDyess was deciding between the Cavaliers, Pistons and Spurs.
