Beno on the move?

So I guess Chris Paul must be pretty average by his Olympic stats too.

7.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists
Umm I think that may have been the fact that everyone else on the team was an NBA stud.

How many other NBA players did Rubio have? A few. You think Paul may have gotten better stats if he played for Spain? Probably.

Um, Rudy F, Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol, Jose Calderon, Jorge Garbajosa, Juan Carlos Navarro, Raul Lopez all played in the NBA.

And actually I think it's the other way around. If Rubio was on team USA how many more assists would he have than Paul?

Since when does a having a pg that gets a bunch of assist make him a great addition to our team. if thats so we should get brevin knight. we only won 17 games last year largely in part to defense most notably perimeter defense that is something Evans excels at. not to mention is indeed a huge upgrade at pg over Beno in every aspect.

Mike Bibby was a true PG. When he came to the Kings he adjusted to the Princeton offense better than Williams could. Bibby played with one of my favorite college players of the 90s (Dickerson) and I watched a TON of AZ BB.

You are just sounding silly now. Athletically out of college he had question marks but nobody questioned if he was a SG playing point.

Evans with his 1 to 1 assist/to ratio and panicing when he gets double teamed just screams PG to me.
So your saying that it was possible for Bibby to adjust, but its not possible for Evans to adjust. And you know this how? The kid is nineteen years old. Did he come out of the womb with shooting guard stamped on his butt. Are you the same person today that you were when you were nineteen? Did you change a little? Have you hopefully improved as you gained experience.

Look! If a person has no court vision or passing skills. If he has no ability to handle the ball and you try and turn him into a point guard, its probably going to fail. But if he has all the qualities that a point guard requires, but just hasn't played that position, but for half a year, and that half a year was his best ball, then yeah, he might just turn into a good point guard and a great player.

For a guy that watches as much college basketball as you do, you should know better. When Michael Jordan came out of college, there were people that wern't that high on him. He wasn't that great of an outside shooter, and made his living by driving to the basket. He needed the ball in his hands to be effective. Well, he turned out to be OK. He also played in a system that didn't really showcase all of his talent.

I don't know if Evans will turn into a great protitical point guard. But I think he will turn into a great player. And thats good enough for me.

Good god.. You throw out stuff you make up and when you get called on it you try to say I got a cat in my avatar when it's clearly a dog?

Wow dude.. Drinky drinky.

Nice try.. I am in my 30s so if you wanted to make something up you might want to go back a bit further to something I might not remember.
:D:D You know dude. I thought it was a cat too. I mean seriously. I thought it was a cat. Why don't you change it to a Mastiff or something like that.

Good point. This will definately help the King's perimeter defense, as Tyreke has strength, speed, and freakish length for a point guard. Hopefully, they can close out on those 3 point shooters now...

I'm also concerned about turnovers. They were a killer for the Kings last year, and Beno's poor play especially hurt them in that area. Tyreke has demonstrated a propensity for turnovers, that I hope he works on greatly. If the kings average 15+ turnovers/game, they will lose another 50+ games next season. Hopefully Tyreke can manage the offense without a lot of turnovers/game, while bringing Russell Westrbook style lock down perimeter defense...One can wish, eh?

Was I really wrong about Thompson?

"Excellent pick. Good player from a small school but he's totally a Petrie player.

My only issue with it is that we could have got him lower than #12."

Which when I saw (after the fact) that the Warriors wanted him I retracted that.

And I said I was wrong about Shelden Williams although I still am a huge fan of his college career.
So let me get this straight. You have been wrong, right? Whereas I was one of those that thought we should draft Thompson before a lot of people knew who he was. I would like to say you were wrong. No big deal! I've been wrong a lot in my life. But sometimes it comes down to character. When someone asked Gen. Patton if he wasn't a primadonna just like Gen Montgomery. He said yes, but the difference is, I know it!

So, are you saying that Rubio is better than Paul? I'm just trying to keep up to snuff here..

Because that's my dog in the avatar. I don't have a mastiff or whatever it's called. I always thought your avatar was George Bush.

I am not following what you are asking. Bottom line Bibby is a PG and was in college as well. Evans is going to have to learn to become a PG against the best players in the world. He's a good player, I have never said he wasn't, but there are just too many question marks with this guy. I hope I am wrong though.

I am not following this one either. I never said we shouldn't draft Thompson, and I never said after we drafted him that it was a bad pick. I quoted myself (as you see) and started the welcome thread.

I was wrong about Marcus, and Shelden Williams though. I only had been following Thompson though since they did a piece on him and his brother both "turning around" Riders BBall program I think it was the beginning of Thompson's Junior season.

problem is we already have a sixth man combo guard in garcia... unless garcia or martin is traded

From the reaction of our front office we did NOT draft Evans to be our 6th man -- we think we've uncovered a star. Now whether we truly think he's going to be a star PG, or whetehr we actually may be considering him a star SG to replace Kevin, I don't know. Typically our front office moves so cautiously it will take them three years of "evaluation" before they could ever move on that.

Wow.... It's mouth it wide open lol.. What cat (other than an over heated one) sits with it's mouth open and runs like a dog.. Hang on.. I am going to get the larger picture. OK, the third image is my cat.. You can see the difference now between a puppy and a cat right?

I think it looks like a good fit for both. Kevin's not good with the ball in his hands. Evans is. Actually, the more I see of Kevin not dribbling a lot, the better.

Yeah Marc Gasol, Jose Calderon, Jorge Garbajosa, Juan Carlos Navarro, Raul Lopez that is the same as Kobe,Lebron.... Paul had to share the ball with them he could have had twice as many asts if he always had the chance to initiate the off while he was in.

What are the chances of Beno becoming disgruntled and accepting a buyout to go play in the euroleague? We can only hope.
None!

Beno got his contract and now he is quite happy to slack off and blame everyone else around him but himself! Unfortuantly we are the suckers that are up for that contract for the next 4 years.

He is a good back up PG but severely overpaid for what he does.

I can't help but feel that Beno is the new Kenny Thomas and it is soooo frustrating, because we were --> | | <-- that close to being done with all of our dead weight. Kenny Thomas is the last of the deadweight expiring after this season. Now we have Beno, which unless he's packaged with one of your young talented players in a trade, he's going to be here for a while. All the while Sergio probably starts over Evans, because he has experience, and then Evans eventually wins the spot; while Beno sits on his butt.

Goodness. A LOT of negative Nancy's here.

1) We have a REAL coach finally. Let's see what he can do with our band of misfit.

2) Evans is a STUD. He's a BASKETBALL player. He'll likely be a STAR in this league. In fact, I'd venture to say, he'll be in amongst the top rookies considered for the R.O.Y.

3) When it comes to drafting, Why? WHY would you doubt Geoff Petrie's instincts. In 17 years drafting with the Kings, he's had exactly TWO flame outs(Quincy Douby and Olivier St. Jean aka Tariq Abdul-Wahad). So we just got ourselves a VERY productive player, and the fact that Geoff could pick from all but 3 prospects, I think we got ourselves a winner here.

4) This team ISN'T the "glory years' team. There are some common themes between the two, but th bottomline is we still need a Chris Webber caliber star and Evans is the MOST LIKELY to fill that NECESSARY element of ANY champsionship team. He may or may not do that, but worst case scenario is he's a very good starter for years to come. His basement is HIGH.

5) Like ANY Petrie pick, just wait, and see for yourselves come October. You'll become a believer. I watched this kid in college and he's good, DAMN GOOD.

I'm still wondering if Coach will be making any changes to help Beno succeed. He has talent. If we can get him performing well somewhat consistently, he is worth the $$$.

I would imagine Evans will startat PG, and Sergio will be the backup. And Beno will be moved if possible.

Other possibhility is that kevin will be moved and Evans will slide over to take his spot. Then Beno's fate would depend on what we got back in that trade. If for instance you traded Kevin for rondo + pieces, then Beno would aghain be gone.

How about Kevin for Rubio + .. then most everybody would be happy with our draft... we would have a great back court..

As the old saying goes...

But if you trade Martin for a legitimate PF like Amare or Bosh?
..."What are you smoking"? Unless you include JT you would never get Bosh. I would be leery about getting Amare since he had microsurgery. He might not ever get back to his old form. I still don't get why Phoenix has him on the block unless they are too concerned about his health or just can't afford him anymore. Or both.
I guess my point is that I think you overvalue Martin.
