that the magic is a lb3db3 (live by the three, die by..) team is a myth. they are one of the best defensive teams in the nba. they can get it done even when their shots are not falling.
people seem to be confusing losing interest vs. inferior teams (sixers, celtics without garnett) with being an inconsistent team. the magic had destroyed the cavs twice at home this season. and the last one was a game the cavs wanted real bad only to fold after a few minutes into the game.
in the first game of the ecf, cavs came out firing. so, that they were rusty due to a long lay-off does not hold any ground. they got the usual breathe on lebron fouls called. the only quarter that they really won was the first (the second finished 30-29 in favor of the cavs due to the half-court buzzer-beater three mo made). the reason the first quarter was so lop-sided was a mis-calculation due to stan van gundy. he envisioned an unbelievable defensive set-up which was overly concerned with lebron. the remaining of the game was balanced because the magic changed the strategy from stopping lebron at all costs to let him have his midrange shots, shut down everyone else.
as for magic playing their best ball ever. that would be a wrong diagnosis. they were playing their best when they were completely dominating teams on the western coast trip (beat the spurs, the lakers, the nuggets, etc.). they are playing ok now; some might even say that they are playing great. but that is what they really are. out of the big three, dwight scored above his average but due to a pee-poor opposing frontcourt, there is absolutely no reason why that should not continue. rashard was average, hedo besides his assists and running the show was below/around his averages. courtney lee sucked on offense. the only suspect player would be pietrus and that really is not a big deal.
on the other hand, do you honestly believe that lebron will keep shooting like he did in the first game? that will not happen. maybe the backcourt will shoot a little better but it probably will not be on a game tilting magnitude.
this series can go both ways. it is amazing how the media make people feel they "know" what they should at most "believe". cleveland is not that good and they do not match well with the magic. sure, cavs can go on win this series 5-1. but in all likelihood, the magic might sweep the cavs as well, especially if they learned their lesson against the celtics that losing games when you feel comfortable is very risky.
