NOTE: I added the list of band members selected in the first Rock Band Draft to the first post in the thread.

#94
Continuing the cool:

Link Wray - Lead Guitar -- My band is going to be loud, rowdy, and dirty, so I just had to go after the father of the power chord. With a distorted sound that is instantly recognizable, even if you don't know the name behind it, Link will be largely responsible for determining my band's direction. And, I think it's a good one.

Eddie Hazel - Lead Guitar

Allmusic Profile

"A mythical figure, original Funkadelic guitarist Eddie Hazel pioneered an innovative funk-metal sound in the early '70s, best exemplified on his mammoth classic instrumental jam "Maggot Brain." This mythological status arises from his brief, mysterious era of productivity, a shadowy three-album cycle capped by Maggot Brain that came to a close as Hazel's notorious drug problems began to haunt him, resulting in personal disputes with George Clinton, a jail sentence, and ultimately his slow death to liver failure. Yet even though Hazel's notable accomplishments are few — reserved mostly to the first three Funkadelic albums, a 1977 solo album, and legendary live performances — these accomplishments were highly influential. At the time, Hazel seemed a clear successor to the deceased Jimi Hendrix, one of the few black guitar players merging an acid rock approach with an R&B aesthetic. Furthermore, Hazel took things a step further, integrating a heavy dose of funk into his fiery guitar work as well, setting the precedent for successive Parliament/Funkadelic guitarists, as well as later generations of funk-metal guitarists."

I think I will keep my strategy of picking the rhythm section first. Only two other drafters have not picked their lead, so I am feeling safe in securing the foundation that I need. Very few great bass players are left, so I am jumping on Victor Wooten of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones.

Victor Wooten - Bass, Double Bass

From Wiki:

Victor Lemonte Wooten (born September 11, 1964) is an American bass player. He is known for his technical virtuosity and his skills as musician, composer, and author. Wooten has won the "Bass Player of the Year" award from Bass Player magazine three times in a row, and was the first person to win the award more than once. In addition to a solo career and collaborations with various artists, Wooten has been the bassist for Béla Fleck and the Flecktones since the group's formation in 1988.

In 2008, Wooten joined Stanley Clarke and Marcus Miller to record an album. The trio of bassists, under the name SMV, released Thunder in August 2008 and began a supporting tour the same month.

Hey Kingzrool, nice pick. According to the rules though you have to stick with 1 instrument per member, unless they are percussion. I'm assuming you'll go with bass/double bass? No cello though...sorry.

It looks like a good start to the Rock Band II draft.

For my second pick I am selecting...

Brian May (Queen) - Lead Guitar

He will He will Rock You.

If the devil had to pick a drummer, who would he choose? The guy from that sixties band? That other guy from that 70's band? Heck No! He would select Phil Rudd, the original and now returned drummer from AC/DC. So I select: Phil Rudd - Drums

And a photo for the ladies...

Why Phil Rudd? Let's let Brian Johnson explain it (Warning: some mild cursing, but what do you expect from AC/DC)

And a tribute

Face it, Phil Rudd rocks and is not a complete showoff like these "Drum Guru" nerds! Ah, yes...

I approve of this pick. Angus last year, and now Phil. Us AC/DC fans might need to stick together in the Last Band Standing thread a little later

You know what is cool we could play this game every TDOS till the Kings win a championship and not run out of wonderful musicians or ways to combine them... just gotta remember my mantra "WWVF21D".... keep it fun, not too competitive

Stickin with the 90's...

Jimmy Chamberlin - Drums (The Smashing Pumpkins)

Wiki said:
While he is known as "one of the most powerful drummers in rock,"[1] he primarily strives for emotionally communicative playing.[2] In 2008, Gigwise named Chamberlin the #5 drummer of all time

hard to get the avatar right. I tried Angus, a kangaroo punching a photographer, Dead from Mayhem (not the album cover ugh), Jeff Van Gundy... nothing felt right ... so I'll go with Blake Griffin for a while for luck.

My Pick:
Matthew Bellamy - Muse (Lead Guitar/Backup Vocals)
I don't know how many secondary singers we can have, but if its decided it is against the spirit of the draft, then he will just be on lead guitar.

He hads a very powerful dynamic to my group as a soloist. If anybody disagrees, just listen to "Hysteria" by MUSE, and oh man you will see. Immensely talented, I'm just surprised he wasn't taken in the other draft.
