Rock Band II Draft - playoffs begin 6/8/09

#33
With my first selection, I choose:

Eddie Vedder - Lead Singer/Guitar (Pearl Jam)
Nice pick! I saw them at the Oakland Coliseum open for the Rotting Bones (Rolling Stones)... it was pouring down rain and Pearl Jam did just an incredible job... Eddie even stripped out of his rain gear and gave it to a fan stating that 'the fan needed it a lot more than he did'. Awesome show. Awesome band. Just a solid #1 overall pick! I am impressed so far... now if the #2 pick is Donny Osmond, I will be a little less impressed, but so far, so good!

Yeah Eddie was a great pick. The thing I like (and will probably hate a little later) about this draft is that I really have no idea which order to take my picks in. IMO there are no real obvious first round picks out there this time around

LPKingsFan hasn't logged on in 4 days. If he times out he wouldn't have even known that the draft has begun:(. Hopefully he'll check the boards today, otherwise we'll have to move on and he can make up his pick later. He is set to time out at 3:00 today...

Edit: Time out has happened:(. I sent a PM to Tradepeja...

Is it within the letter and spirit of the rules to pass your turn, (and announce such, saving everyone 18 hours), and then pick it up at your next turn... selecting two at once? Or is that "cheating"?

I have three very distinct directions I may take... the option to guarantee a PAIR of picks could be a strategic advantage, more important than choosing the first guy sooner.

Ideally this wouldn't happen, as to allow for a more streamlined, less strategically wicked draft. I've noticed some people using this plan in other drafts, and it has been frustrating. I'm leaning towards no, but I'd be open to the opinions of the other drafters.

My suggestion? If someone wants to pass, let them do so. If they pass round 2, they would - for example - pick both round 2 and round 3 when round 3 comes up. It could actually speed things up.

In the case of people who have habitually been timed out in other drafts, I would think they should be subject to a shorter clock but that would - in all fairness - need to be set up before the draft starts.

The less rules, the better. But this one could quickly turn into "I'll just wait till the end and pick all 5 together". I think the strategic move goes against the spirit of the draft format. I am not passionate either way so whatever.

I agree with Kingzrool, that this goes against the spirit of the draft. So lets not allow this. If there are consecutive time-outs, picks can be permanently forfeited (disallowing this strategy).

Tradepeja is on the clock...

Hey, everyone. Sorry about the delay. I've been out of town the last few days, and didn't think the draft would happen so quickly! But I'm here now, so let's get the show on the road.

Jespher, nice pick with Vedder. I was considering him for lead vox for my Roaring 90s last summer, but ultimately went with Cobain. Judging by the last band standing thread, that may have cost me some votes...

Anyways, without further adieu, my first pick:

Bob Marley, lead vocals and rhythm guitar.

While I waited several rounds to pick the front man last year, this year I'm looking to establish my band's identity right off the bat. And no one's better suited for that than Marley, the quintessential face of reggae and the perfect lead for my band, which will be featuring a summer vibe as it's already over 100 in Sacramento. Marley is more than just a singer, songwriter, musician or guitarist--he embodies a philosophy and mindset as well. His music is pleasing to the ear, fun to dance to, but often also carries an important political message. I look forward to building a top notch backing band around him, many of whom will be stars in their own right.
