The whole point of the game is to vote for the groups you like, and to minus the ones you don't. Simple as that. Believe it or not, The Beatles didn't mean alot to alot of people that are voting. Alot of posters here are too young to have grown up listening to them. You eliminated Nas, despite the fact that he changed rap. We didn't moan.

My mistake, obviously. I am trying to vote for the really big names in music. Those that change a genre are not the same as those who create a whole new sound and music culture. Whatever! I'm out.

I know what you mean in a way... but I think U2 has earned that stature at this stage of their career... fair and square. I'm a little surprised, not a lot surprised.

my .02 it is a GAME, and part of game play/strategy could be to try and hold down a front runner, or try to kill off weaklings first then gang up on a front runner, or to minus the Beach Boys and Beatles and put up a fake plus for somebody you don't care about to mis-direct the revenge votes from people who want to make it personal.

All this is part of the game I feel. And I'm glad to see the Beatles get some minuses too... because of course they are the greatest most influential music group ever, and so for me it is like rooting against the Yankees. Some people just don't like a frontrunner.

Alot is meant in relativity. I think it's fairly clear that not everybody rates them as highly as you when they're getting minuses. I'm not denying that they weren't hugely influential, but if you think I'm going to vote for them on that reason alone, when I don't even listen to them much, is just wrong. I don't want them to win because they're not even close to being my favourite. That's the whole point of this thread. And Aleksandrn was correct.

I don't know what the reference to U2s latest album is about, because I've heard it's not very good. All I know is that u2 are a band that have produced alot of great music over a long period of time. Their position is justified.

Can't stand David Lee either. I did see Sammy play a solo acoustic set at a Bridge School Benefit in the nineties. I was pleasantly surprised.

As far as the Beatles winning, we'd all be smart to put our $$ there. To argue their influence on modern day music is pointless, even if you don't appreciate or get them. But the fact that this is a game and folks can vote as they please makes the whole thing much more interesting. If people want to vote soley on merit, they may do so. If folks want to vote strategically, that is fine as well. I am quite sure that I will be voting against the Beatles at one point or another as a strategic move. I was bummed to see the Talking Heads go so soon and feel the need to spend my votes keeping Prince and Funkadelic in for longer. But I have only voted once or twice for the option that I will be focusing on as things get narrowed down.

As was mentioned, the only reason that this will work or be fun is that the members of this board have extremely diverse taste, as anyone that followed the music draft threads of last TDOS can attest. This is exactly why I brought this to the board. There is really no need to take votes personally. Speak your mind with your vote, and keep the side talk to comments regarding the musicians not the members of the board.

Oh, I know, I wasn't saying that to you, it was just a comment in general. Just want to clear something up though - I know how influential The Beatles were, I'm not taking anything away from them. But, they're not my favourite group. I just don't listen to them enough.

Well, you're wrong. That's a simple fact.

In the end whether you're wrong or I'm wrong (and trust me, you're wrong) doesn't matter for this thread. Dimedropper's right, the best band needs to win, not the most influential. But maybe for some, those two are the same thing.
