BTW kingsnation, what do you know about Kevin Burnett?
He had a good year last year for us, we drafted him the same year as Demarcus Ware, Marcus Spears, Jay Ratliff and Chris Canty actually. So, coupled with them, Roy and Newman - he was a vital part of our defensive youth movement a few years back.

I liked him. No sure how fast he is, but he has good speed for a LB.

Well, now the word is that he's not going to show up for OTA's. We'll know for sure whether the stories are true or not if that happens.

At this point, though, what we do know is that he complained about Shanahan being fired, as if the owner of the team is required to run everything through the third year starting quarterback who's never been to the playoffs and has a sub .500 record (never mind the fact that said owner CRIED at the press conference because of how upset he was about the decision), he's bitched and moaned for two weeks now because his name came up in a potential trade (which trade did not happen), and now he might not show up for the first official team function with his new head coach... that's enough for me to make the above declaration.

And here's my problem: If you really care about winning, you do whatever you can to get past conflicts and misunderstandings for the sake of the team, so that you can actually have some success in your career. Especially as the quarterback. So, even if the Broncos (read: Josh McDaniels) were wrong to entertain the idea of trading their starting quarterback, the fact is that they DID NOT TRADE HIM. Perhaps they should have, because if we're still talking about how Jay Cutler is so upset with Broncos management a couple of weeks from now, then it's going to be a huge problem for the Broncos and their fans.

So maybe I'll reserve judgment until next week, when OTA's open up, but if Cutler isn't there, ready to work and set a proper example for his team, then all reservations go out the window, and he'll be an official idiot.
I agree that if he doesn't show up he's an idiot. In fact I'll be advocating that he is shipped off to Detroit at that point. But I am still having a hard time digesting what is real and what isn't real here. I don't think Cutler has actually spoken publicly though his agent has made a few stupid comments, but those same comments were also evidence to me that the agent has at least as much to do with this as anyone else.

"They want me to come in and talk to 'em but I'm not doing it right now; I'm going to lay low," said Cutler. "The [Broncos] deny everything. That's a problem. We know for a fact they tried to trade me."

Cutler, the 11th overall pick out of Vanderbilt in the 2006 draft, told The Denver Post he was angry that his name even came up in trade talks and said he still feels he's on the trading block -- something McDaniels denies."

We don't want to trade Jay," McDaniels said. "We never did. He's our quarterback. We're excited about this season. And excited about what we're doing here in free agency to improve our team."

So Cutler has made comments, and they weren't very encouraging. Even still, your agent represents you, so what he says can be considered your official comment, and if you don't want him to speak for you, then you tell him so.

PFT reporting Galloway signs with Pats:

Sounds like Cutler is keeping his Denver condo so I'm not sure it isn't just a financial move or a fear of getting traded, but damn he is making all the wrong moves and they may as well ship him to Detroit for all I care now.
Damn Patriots, another good signing. Like I said before, I think he's over-rated, but he's still a good player. I like the Taylor signing more. Should be a few more SB appearances for the Pats in the near future.

Update: Cutler asks for trade

Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler said Sunday night that he will not report to the team's first meeting on Monday and has formally asked to be traded. He confirmed that a Saturday meeting with first-year coach Josh McDaniels ended badly from his perspective while McDaniels offered another viewpoint on Sunday night.

"I went in there with every intention of solving the issue, being a Bronco, moving forward as a Bronco," Cutler said. "We weren't in there but about 20 minutes, [McDaniels] did most of the talking and as far as I'm concerned, he made it clear he wants his own guy. He admitted he wanted Matt Cassel because he said he has raised him up from the ground as a quarterback. He said he wasn't sorry about it. He made it clear that he could still entertain trading me because, as he put it, he'll do whatever he feels is in the best interest of the organization.

Cutler is officially dead to me.

Josh McD said:
"I really have wanted to avoid a he-said, she-said thing but it's only fair for us to present the Bronco side of the story rather than let things get taken out of context,"
I think he just called Cutler a beeotch.

There's like five good quarterbacks in the NFL, and Cutler is one of them. I would really like to see him, Rivers, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Cassel, Matt Ryan, etc., develop into the next era of really good quarterbacks. I'd love to see this three-way quarterback rivalry in the AFC West become a huge deal in the NFL. I've been a Jay Cutler fan for two years now.

That's why this is so annoying. Not only is he being a punk about this whole thing and hurting the Broncos, but he's representing everything that's wrong with professional sports right now, and it's hard to feel anything other than anger and frustration over the way Cutler and his agent have handled this thing. I honestly do hope that everything gets mended and both sides are able to mend and repair. But as long as Cutler is huffy and immature, I don't see that happening.

Looks like this agent has represented players in some bitter divorces where everyone winds up losing in recent memory - Favre and the Packers, McNair and the Titans and Moss and the Vikings.

Funny how the #1 overall pick from just 2 seasons ago doesn't even enter your equation. Poor Raider-Fan.

You're not even gonna include Eli amongst the rest of them?

Btw, who do u guys think won the Eli for Rivers, Merriman, Kaeding trade?

I think the Chargers but it's hard to argue against the SB ring for Eli.

It's the Raiders. And considering the fact that JaMarcus Russell hasn't shown the ability to even stay in shape, much less be an effective quarterback, I didn't see the need to include him. Hell, he might wind up playing left guard in a couple of seasons the way things are going.

I kind of considered him as a foregone conclusion in that group. Didn't mean to slight him. He and Big Ben are there without question.

I think the trade was even, and I don't think either team would undo it if they could. The Giants got their guy at QB (who's held up pretty well under NY scrutiny), the Chargers got a group of good players who have contributed to a lot of success. It's sort of a wash, which is uncommon with big trades anymore.
