Are you really surprised?

Cmon now, are you really surprised that this team is 0-4? We were all talking about it before the season started. We knew this was a possibility, so why all the venom? Why blame Theus for something we all thought was very likely to happen.

You think another coach would somehow have this team 2-2?

Are we all fairly happy with Hawes and Thompson at this point? id say more than likely, YES. So lets just hope that those two keep coming along, and that Martin gets back to normal and that 1-2 years from now, the Kings will be in good shape. I am going to continue to get a good laugh out of all of you that are getting so pissed about something we all knew was going to happen, and that is the Kings losing 50 or so games this year.

There is a diference between being 0-4 and being 0-4 while giving up the most points in the NBA (111.8 ) and being outscore by 20 points a night.

Our offense: 91.8 ppg
Our defense: 111.8 ppg
Diff: -20.0 ppg

And that said, I am not upset. In some ways the best of all worlds. We are losing = higher draft pick = accelerate the rebuild, and our best players have been precisely the young guys who need to be a big part of our future for the rebuild to be working.

But don't try to pretend this has been just any 0-4 start. We have been completely atrocious out there

Except the play of Beno. We have just committed long term to this guy, and he is killing us.

To a lesser extent, I was hoping that QD and Sheldon shall show something in their limited minutes, that shall up their trade value. Was hoping that some team over the tax shall trade for Miki (and pick QD and/or Sheldon in the process). We could pick a player whose contract expires in 2010 and some draft picks to help them save some LT.

Shelden and Quincy actually have value to us as enders. Not that we might not move them, but it certainly shouldn't be on top of the list as a must do.

I'm absolutely not surprised we're 0-4. I'm angry because I really believe this team can play signifantly better defense than they have been playing, even with the existing personnel. Theus has had a year to come up with defensive system and to instill some pride in playing defense. So far, it's a failure. I really don't care if we only have 20 wins this year (better for the draft), but I do want to see a system, a focus, and an attitude on the defensive end that so far I haven't seen in order to build this team for the future. Ultimately, you can't play defense until you take it very personnally, and most of our players now are just ho hum...

True, but I do suspect that the focus and desire of some of the vets shall go up if the team becomes relevant again. It's still sad though, and I wonder how much the vets are listening to the coaching staff.

And of course the lack of minutes to Greene remain a puzzle. Is he too raw yet or has he rubbed Reggie the wrong way? Even if he does worse than the people out there, how bad can it be?

im not shocked that the team is 0-4... but i am mad because they had a chance to be 2-2... they could have beaten the twolves and heat... but maybe they can win their next 2 games... the grizz and twolves are beatable....

I'm not at all surprised by the 0-4 start. I am a bit perturbed by just how truly awful we have looked out there. (Hawes and Thompson excepted, TG.)

I think, if we had won our first game against t-wolves, we would have been 2-2 right now....but anyway...my biggest disappointment have been, of course, our defense...I just cannot understand why have they been playing like that...I haven't seen no signs of energy, hustle in that end (except haws, thompson)...our frount court defense seems like doesn't exist at all (philadelphia shot 10 of 13 from 3-point line yesterday...it just looks like all of them were open shots).....the focus and desire have to go up....so we have now 4 home games and we should anticipate a basketball on a much higher level in order to claim our first season win...

Unless they are in our long term plans (could be, particularly Sheldon at a low cost), their value as enders is via trade. We are not getting under the cap this year anyway.

I can stand losing. I can't stand not caring. Beno and Martin especially have looked completely apathetic out there. This team may not win a lot of games, but if they're not clawing, scrapping, and hustling their butts off every possession, it tells me of a superiority complex and a dangerous overconfidence in their ability.

You might be on to something. But as you imply, it's not professional, and if the vets don't want to play with desire because it's a rebuilding team, all the more reason to trade them or bench them in favor of youth. Part of the reason the vets are here is to lead by example. So far, it's the youth that is leading by example. That is sad, and it better be corrected very soon. They have to choose: either man-up or girlie-out. Pick 'em.

Playing devil's advocate, Greene is raw, and he does have to earn his spurs to get on the floor when a game is in doubt. But playing angel's advocate, isn't it enough for Greene to play hard in practice in order to get on the floor in "garbage time"? Why is K. Thomas suited up in favor of Greene? We all know KT is goner; KT knows he's a goner. So what's the point of having him suit up in favor of Greene?

No -- if our attempt is to get majorly under the cap either this offseason or next, their value could well just be holding onto them.

This is where being a rebuilding team means a different philosophy than being a contending team. If you are a contender, then maybe that ender will bring back that one last piece. But if you are a rebuilder then you generally want to accumulate them, not trade them, to build up space for a big FA run.

If you can keep Shlden and Quincy, and then move one or more of Brad, Kenny, Mikki or Salmons, you could have cap room THIS summer. Or if not, at the very least be able to store it up for next summer.

Thanks. See your point, and wasn't thinking of this summer. Was thinking of 2010 only, which is why I had mentioned that we can trade any of these guys as long as we take back contracts that expire in 2010. This might be particularly attractive to teams that are over the tax. Didn't check if any teams have some assets that expire in 2010, that they might be willing to trade.

I agree with trying to make cap room this summer. I'm not saying this is likely or anything but Carlos Boozer has a chance to test the market this year, and he's exactly the kind of player we are looking for.

Boozer was on the Rome show today and he made it clear his only concern is to win a championship. And, I'm guessing that most if not all of the other FA's, most of whom are already millionaires, feel the same way.

So, don't expect an UFA star , to choose to come to Sac because of the potential of our rookies. Most FA's are going to sign with their own team because they can pay them the most money or they're going to go to a contender. Not a team that just got the #1 pick in the draft.

55% of all the stars were gotten thru the draft, 35% thru trades ,and only 10% thru free agency. Other teams don't let their stars walk unless there's a good reason. They resign them or they sign and trade them. Rather than pin all our hopes on signing some superstar FA, we need to be trading for draft picks and role players at least ones that can help us now.

Excellent stats. Did you derive them yourself or do you have a source? Thanks.
