So many ways to go. Might as well go with a classic before it gets taken

Hotel California - The Eagles - Hotel California

[yt=Hotel California - The Eagles]hcwr1nbmWLI&feature=related[/yt]

I'm not a big Eagles fan, but I don't know many people that don't like this song. One of the greatest songs of all time, with one of the most famous solos of all time.

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Crap.

That was my #2.

Does at least accelerate the second phase of my draft however.

P.S. Normally I have little use for live versions of songs, but that has to be one of the cleanest/closest to the recorded song that I have ever heard. Pretty remarkable, especially with the guy singing it being the drummer -- you would think in concert he might be a tad distracted as compared to in the studio where he could lay down the drum tracks, and then come back with the vocals.

Yeah, I've been messaged.

My second round pick is Rapper's Delight, by the Sugarhill Gang. I want the 12-inch extended version, of course, but I can't find a complete copy online that can be legally shared, so here's a couple of youtube links for you:

Well, given who the two drafters are between me and my next pick this is absolutely the wrong tactical move, but I don't want to leave any doubt on this one, and am going to try to make some wine out of vinegar by taking advantage of the hole opened up by losing Hotel California:

[yt=Sweet Child O' Mine -- Guns N' Roses]P-AYAv0IoWI[/yt]

Sweet Child O' Mine -- Guns N' Roses -- Appetite For Destruction

When I first caught this song 20 years ago I thought it was one of the greatest rock songs I had ever heard. If anything it has grown in stature in the two decades since and already more than stood the test of time. That's the type of song I need on my island.

Am I too late? If not, consider me in!
:D

Yeah, I think you're a little late. They've already got a full roster of drafters, set the draft order, and finished over 1.5 rounds of choices. There are other drafts you might still be able to make, though. Check the rest of the lounge, just don't forget to read all the pages in the threads. ;)

Creep - Radiohead - Pablo Honey

Since I prefer listening to albums rather then the playlists, I am going to have to trust iTunes play count. It does seem that I tend to repeat some songs - a lot. I wish I had same type of records for CD players and turntables, but for now iTunes will have to do until I work out my all-time list.

Thom Yorke alegedly hates this tune since it received unprecendant amount of radio play back in the day (in UK at least). I sure listen to it a lot with no ill effects.

Its called overdubbing. There's just no way it sounded that good if you were actually there.

The Eagles - Live album is reportedly one of the most heavily overdubbed Live albums ever, so I suspect this YouTube video to not be much different. In fact, it seems to be a video of a performance of the song with the Live overdubbed track of Hotel California pasted on top of it.

Wolf Like Me - TV On The Radio - Return To The Cookie Mountain

This album, as much as I like it, didn't make it anywhere near even my long list for Desert Island albums draft. Still, it turns out I listen to it a lot and I repeat Wolf Like Me even more. I really don't know how best to describe their music or this song and do TOTR or the song a complete justice. All I know is that about 2 years ago, while I was at the client site in Denver, CO, my wife emailed me a link to this tune and told me that she can't stop listening to it. This never happened before or since, we just don't treat music recommendations as family emergencies. It's not like it's a TV show that cannot be DVR-ed/taped in the olden days. So I drove to the nearest Best Buy (the only time I bought CD's from a big box retailer and bypassed indy record store or web site in the process). All the fuss was well worth it. The album itself is very good, but not excellent or great. Wolf Like Me Though is just flat out awesome.

Just an FYI - I am out of town until Tuesday evening. I don't think this draft will get to me before then, but if it does, go ahead and pick and I will jump in when I get back. I have to do some thinking about my next pick and a 2-day road trip for work may be just the ticket to listen to options and make some decisions about how to winnow down my list.

Always hate these picks when you are on one end of the draft -- takes so long to get back to you who knows what will be left. So this was a tough call but:

[yt="Born to Run -- Bruce Springsteen"]CKUXMVamwO4[/yt]

Born to Run -- Bruce Springsteen -- Born to Run

I was torn about which way to go, but this epic song is just too good for me to send back around again. I know its on some lists, and one of those songs that has rarely left my own main rotations. So working the classic angles here that I did not in the album draft. :)

Time to throw you guys a curveball

In keeping with my upbeat theme of this portion of the draft, and just to show that I'm not completely ignorant of music that's not hip-hop/R&B, with my third pick, I select:

[yt=Watch Me Explode!]2bPQAWZFZlM[/yt]

AC/DC - TNT - High Voltage

Oi! Oi! Oi! Oi!

Holy curveball Batman!

Got a kick out of the video-makers attempt to match the pics with the lyrics there. :p

So many ways to go. I've changed my mind at least 3 times here.

Mary Jane's Last Dance - Tom Petty - Greatest Hits

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2xb0gwDaaU

It may not be his most famous song, but it's definitely my favorite

EDIT: For whatever reason the video wouldn't play (I tried like 10 different ones), so I'll just give the link to it

OK, this is moving quicker than I thought. I sent my pick to VF21, since she doesn't pick until well after I do.

Thanks.

As far as an official PM person, I have been trying, but they all will be gone at some point soon. If there is someone that is paying attn to this thread that checks in regularly and is not participating, please volunteer. Otherwise, PM someone who is after you or does not have your taste in music.

Thanx
