[Fantasy] 2008 WNBA Pick One Challenge

#91
Hmmm...just a random musing on my week this week...(sigh)....

I played Ticha and Sue Bird this week...and you know, if I had only flip flopped the days I played them? I would be at least 30 points better off this week than I am right now.

Random musing on the league's week this week...thanks to Candace F. Parker, we are all playing for second place behind this week's lucky parkerer. Unless somebody can put together a decent mix of players on Saturday and Sunday to close a I think 40 something point gap.

Well, all of us except me who for the second season in a row has been a day off on a Penicheiro point bonanza. I mean, shoot, what were the odds that with her scoring and assist numbers up astronomically this year that I would again pull a single digit fantasy night out of her? That does not remotely seem possible now does it?

Week Nine Results

Well...week nine started innocently enough, folks made their picks to start the week, recovering from the parkering from week eight. Here we were all minding our own business and Candace Parker goes OFF again on Wednesday. And by "OFF" I don't just mean, well... "OFF" I mean...
OFF
Um, that OFF I speak of had somewhat of an influence on the cup winning and turned week nine into the race for second. Because NoooOOOOooo we couldn't have someone miss out on her record setting fantasy score again now could we?

Musical theme this week...courtesy of Chuck Berry "You Can't Catch Me" and for our parkering EG Hayniac, no truer words had ever been typed on screen.

For a bit of perspective, Young Ms. Chosen One amassed more fantasy points in one night, than 17 players in our league totalled in a week's worth of games.

But enough of her. She's a freak, we know that, let's move on.

Well, after Weds, in our newfound race for the silver medal, our intrepid Monarchs play-by-play guy was holding strong in a battle with his show producer Sean Cunningham, it was tooth and nail to the final day, with Koz edging young Mr. Cunningham and mdme out by two points as Asjha was essentially that much better than Chasity Melvin and Crystal Langhorne on Sunday.

: printing more I <3 Asjha t-shirts:

I'm going to briefly mention a strategy that looked familiar to me..except mine earned me -5,586 points the week I did it last year in a last ditch effort to erase several weeks of horrible picks. The strategy? The nearly all rookie lineup, somehow a ringer by the name of Hammon made the cut for Rdub, everybody else was double the pleasure. Eh, except one, who doubled zero...but more on that later. The Harper, Gruda, Carson, Langhorne, Bobbitt + Hammon could have done something, had it not been for the meddling terrapin...again, more on that later.

Our popular picks

Vets
(7) Sancho Lyttle
(6) Sue Bird
(5) Becky Hammon, Kara Braxton, Ivory Latta
(4) Ticha Penicheiro, Ann Wauters, Tammy Sutton-Brown
(3) Ebony Hoffman, Jia Perkins, Rebekkah Brunson, DNP-generally

Rooks
(8) Tamera Young
(3) Shannon Bobbitt ,Sandrine Gruda, Crystal Langhorne

Awards time...

Congratulations EG Hayniac...

Valet Award...Is there any doubt? Congrats ditto

Green Jacket...eligibility limits grant this to Rdub..who may have a word or two for #15 in the home white....

And our first Billy Preston Nothin' from Nothin' Donut Award...which came at the hands of someone not named Charde Houston..weird..she was sooo trending that direction a few weeks ago. Laura Harper "helped" Rdub win the jacket and double dip with the award by tallying not a single point assist or rebound in her minutes against Los Angeles. Um, congrats again Rdub..

Geez, I try to stay away from this thread now since I have seemed to lose all fantasy wisdom I had going earlier in the season. And yes, #15...I need to have a talk to you :p

Well now, overall your sittin pretty RDub21, chillin at the top:cool:

Cashed in on some rookie luv last night ''little bit Bobbitt'';) & Parker put on the Tenn.showtime special.

I see my sidekick ''Moneyk'' got in on the Bobbitt express as well...

Congrats to all the award winners...I'm still trying to get a little somethin in my rookie season!

Okeeee....having forgotten who the heck I had today, I just made a quick check and dadgumit if I did not take Michelle F. Snow. Who scored me a damn 12 points on 6/6.

Dear Michelle...

I don't heart you. You know it, I know it, so why pretend? That however is not my reason for writing you. I'm writing you because I could almost forgive you only having 6/6 because your teammate who finally has been unshackled from the 11th seat on the bench and gets to play, is going nuts with 16/18. How could I expect you to have the 10/10 (or whatever combination of stuff you had to do to get me 20pts I'm not picky) when somebody is stealing your points and rebounds like that...

Well it's because you are so freaking underachievingly crazymaking is why. You should fall out of bed with your ability to jump and get 10 rebounds handed to you.

Gah. And geezus...Tina came off the bench to give peeps who may have taken her 25 in points alone, irrespective of her rebounds/assists. Granted Sancho may have stolen her rebounds too, but the point is TINA SCORED 25 POINTS AND WOULD HAVE SHUT ME AND MY COMPLAINING ON THAT ALONE.

Now that I've used you already, please continue to underachieve within the range of your typical underachievingness.

Thank you,

Sincerely,

A Bitter MBF

I know how you feel MBF...It's nice to finally get rid of that old school ,can I take a few plays off every now & then Snow! Nice to see you found the positive in the win....keeping our Monarch's in charge of their own destiny.

I rolled with last years MIP player JM...a COOL 19:cool: After last night rookie luv, it's sorta of let down. No worries...cuz we all know Big Girls Don't Cry!

We complain plenty, but we suck it up & move on;)

Helllooooooooooooooooooo Monarchs Rookie Front Court Party Bus....

Crystal Kelly = 40 fantasy pts
Laura Harper = 32 fantasy pts

Friday was also Pick One Monarch Challenge I 'spose, a whooooole lotta people did just that....we except me because I'm not on the super secret league solidarity memo routing list ;)

Very nice! Might just have to snag one of those for Thursdays game, get some of that rookie luv;)
I have to keep reminding fantasy players...Monarch win first, fantasy points 2nd!

Happy for our young guns, they are making the most of their minutes.

Alrighty, as we head into the final day of week 10, I wanted to quickly note how competitive the week has been, well or points lucrative shall I say. Of the 21 players who selected a team of folks this week, all but one is in triple digits. And the one who is under triple digits is close enough that we could very well not have a green jacket winner. Yay Us and our selections this week. Um..or yay some of us DESPITE the sabotage of some of our selections this week. ;)

NBH came into today came into today leading the the week her quest for her first cup, a late surge has put her 3pts off the pace now set by last week's top parkerer EG Hayniac.. Hoopmatron and INeedMoreCowbell are both within 8pts. But shoot, we have a boatload of folks who are within 30pts. So it could be up for grabs with a little luck.

Here are the games on tap and you can see if there is a rookie who could be the magic bullet to the top of the week 10 standings.

Chicago @ Connecticut
Seattle @ Washington
Sacramento @ Detroit

I have a player selected who freaking made sense when I picked her for this game, and I may stick with her because I dont know if changing her to someone else (if I even have someone else "better" to go to) will help me make enough of a move for the week, now the overall standings is a different story...but goodness knows what happens when I've gone against intuition.

It was again super secret coordination memo, as our game turned into Pick One Le'Coe Willingham challenge tonight....I sat with Shannon Johnson who I got to watch in the live boxscore of her game clank shots, foul and turn the ball over. Fun times...she made my Michelle Snow pick earlier this week look like a windfall... I give up on that Houston roster...

Good luck to all....

Weird day...no DNP's messed us up, but a whole lotta weird performances sure did. If you picked someone on Sunday and got what you expected out of her? +/- raise your hand...

Recap will go up again on time delay but hopefully by Wednesday.

Yeah, I guess that's what happens when you pick the Seniors, I mean vets of the league to give you some luv...NOT;)

I'm gonna go back to my rookie young guns, they have been $$$$

Gotta say this has been fun...always learning & gettin school'd:cool:

Week Ten Results

I am hastily typing up the week 10 recap while I'm technically still within the parameter of "Wednesday" as I posted earlier regarding when I hoped to get a chance to get this up.

Our lyrical theme this week comes courtesy of Foreigner..."Double Vision" as we have our first back-to-back dynastic weekly winner as EG Hayniac took the honors for the second week in a row.

As was mentioned in the foreshadowing post, the week was bountiful in pointage as mostly everybody was smokin' in triple digits. NBH was working towards her first cup of the week, doubling up on rookies and having them actually give you something worth being happy to have them doubled as she started the week with Shannon Bobbitt and midweek snagged Tasha Humphrey to net 76 pts. (For comparison, our lone Parkerer this week INeedMoreCowbell earned only 70 points with Candace)

But it was EG Hayniac sneaking up with a big day from Catchings, and finishing it off with Cheryl Ford and holding off a charge by Cowbell for the win.

Strange day it was on Sunday, several subpar performance, several folks saw a good thing in Swoopes or Griffith..only to not get it. Sunday was pretty much like that across the board, you either got what you expected (Cheryl Ford) or you didnt. So it made making movement difficult.

But looking back further at the week....Ruth Riley was a rebound away from being insignificant enough in her minutes to earn Kreyn49 the Billy Preston. Our favorite Monarchs color analyst was equally thwarted by Barb Turner, who kept her 2 point away from the coveted award.

Our more popular player this past week...we had much more concentrated distribution and coordination this week

Vets
(8) Le’Coe Willingham
(7) Tamika Catchings, Janel McCarville
(6) Catherine Kraayeveld. Shameka Christon, Nicole Powell
(4) Tammy Sutton-Brown
(3) Cheryl Ford, Yolanda Griffith, Sheryl Swoopes, Becky Hammon, Sancho Lyttle, Ticha Penicheiro, Lisa Leslie

Rooks
(8) Shannon Bobbitt
(4) Amber Holt
(3) Tasha Humphrey, Crystal Kelly

Awards time..

Congratulations EG Hayniac..

Our parkerer this week, though only worth 70 points made the most of them to bolster a run that fell a few point off the cup. Congrats INeedMoreCowbell

I thought we miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight get a chance at a green free week, but Kreyn49 just got a underproduction sandwich, starting the week with Ruth Riley's 1 pt and finishing it with Kara Braxton's 6.

League players, or those on the super secret pick coordination memo distribution list, got a group rate on tickets to the Camille Little party tonight...

Final two days of pre Olympic pickin' and then we all get much needed rest and practice in for the stretch run...:)

Oh...reminder just in case....be sure to navigate around the potmarked lineups for the Sparks and Shock...um...and eh, Nancy Lieberman is available...

<Ding> It is now safe to select Erika DeSouza, she has returned for the Dream.

Well, you know...it appears from what I've seen so far our leader going into Sunday's action held on to take the cup this week. Also appears that we had another Billy Preston Donut award winner but I haven't ascertained who exactly was the green jacket winner for the week and it doesn't appear that anybody parkered.

Programming note....I may not get a recap up until late in the week if I write one at all since I didn't have time this week to keep track of trends etc let alone what happened this week I barely could remember who I picked each day ;) ...I will probably just hand out the weekly awards when I get back home later tonight.

I'll see what I have on pick trends for the first "half" and get that up over the weekend and probably forego a recap for week 11. Unfortunately, to answer a question asked a few weeks ago, I do not still have all of the notes I kept on picks earlier in the season so I don't know who all might have still have parkering tickets, I may however have a sense of how many people might still have her or other big money popular rookies and vets available in the 2nd half.

Week Eleven Awards

Abbreviated recap to focus on the awards...since we all need to catch flights elsewhere as we scatter to the four corners of the earth for the Olympic break..;)

Our winner McScrooge held off the field with stereo rookie play over the weekend with Laura Harper and Sandrine Gruda, but that was only half of it...it actually was a quadraphonic week of with another pair of Monarch/Sun rookies at the start of the week: Amber Holt and Crystal Kelly

Congratulations McScrooge..

Kreyn49 goes back-to-back with the green jacket this week...

And as a finale on the awards...EG Hayniac coming off back-to-back weekly cup wins, snagged a new award this week thanks to Tamecka Dixon's four minutes of nothingness...

Happy trails all until Week Twelve at the end of August....

One More Thing....

You know...someone mentioned to me that we have some folks to honor for representin' the KF.com league so well...

Remember back in week[I'm too lazy to look it up] when I mentioned that there really wasn't all that much difference between us and the folks who were at the time in the top 10 of the overall leaderboard for all people playing the game? Mostly at the time it was Candace Parker's opening day salvo that separated folks.

Well...congratulations are in order...we have two members of the top 50. :)

mdme currently sits in 13th place overall and supa in 36th.

I'm guessing we have other people in the top 100 (I can't see past the first page if there even is more than just this page)...yay y'all....
