Oklahoma City Uniforms

So much for the idea that only a certain amount of teams can have black uni's. I wonder if that will be the permanent color.
They are just wearing generic NBA practice jersey's with OKC on them. They can't even really start to decide on colors until they are named, so the colors are not representative of what OKC will be wearing. There is no reason to conclude that there is or isn't a prohibition on the number of teams allowed to have black uni's.

I've read it stated on this message board by a "senior member" that the Kings will not go back to Black uni's, because the league has some sort of limitation on how many teams canh have Black as the primary color of their uniform.

I do agree that these are just temporary, and the colors may change, that's why I said, "I wonder if the colors will change."

Edit: Didn't take me long to find this quote from VF21. This is what I was referring to in regards to the NBA controlling who can have black uni's.

I don't have a link but I've heard that there WILL, in fact, be new home and road jerseys next season but that neither of them will be black. The NBA is still maintaining a strict control on how many teams can have black jerseys and until/unless a couple of teams give theirs up, no more teams can have them.

It's just summer league man. Kings wear black in summer league also. It is no indication of their actual colors.

Last I heard it was between OKC Barons and OKC Thunder with black and gold being the team colors regardless. Here's the projected jersey for the Barons:

(This link says it's official but according to every other source it won't be official until sometime in the next couple weeks. I hope that's official though because those are some of the best looking jerseys in the NBA.)

The style is excellent, but the name leaves something to be desired. What do Barons have to do with Oklahoma? It sounds like an amateur leage team.

Oil barons.

But that jersey screams "Gunslingers" or something, but I imagine that doesn't fly these days.

Then call them the Oklahoma City Oilers. At least you'd have reference to a name that was used as the nickname of a professional sports team at one time. It would make it sound legit.

Gunslingers, or Thunder just sound amateurish. The thunder sounds like a WNBA team because of the lightning.

barons is a stupid name... Bobcats, barons??? What's with these small time college team names?? They're horrible
Not too sure the Knickerbockers or Magic or Nets is any better....there are names that some don't like in probably every sport.

I don't think the Barons is any worse than some others in the NBA.

Barons is pretty good. Much better than Thunder. I like those uniforms, too, although I wish they'd make them use something else and let the Kings use black. If the official name does turn out to be Barons with that color scheme I'd give it a thumbs-up.

It's actually pretty good from a marketing standpoint. Oklahoma City is all about oil. So "Barons" to honor their legacy is apt. And what is oil but black gold, so to have those two colors would really all tie in quite nicely.

There's a certain logic to using black and gold for a team from Oklahoma City, especially if - as I mentioned above - they are, in fact, going to be called the "Barons."

I'm not the only person who has commented about the league's control over the color black. If you recall, Gavin Maloof also explained that while they (meaning the Maloofs) would love to get the black jerseys back, it was a decision for the league office to make. If the league office, in an attempt to get the newest team off on a good footing, decides to allow them to use the color black as part of their franchise colors, I can certainly understand it.

I didn't necessarily mean you were the only one to ever say it. Yours was just easy to find when I searched. Either way, teams that have used it previously should get first dibs in my opinion if the NBA is going to be strict.

The ownership group should just be happy they got out of the lease and they are in Oklahoma City, I don't think the leage should pander to them no matter how much sense black and gold would make.

Pander to them? By allowing them to pick an identity for their new team that ties into the area? That's not pandering, by my definition.

I want our Kings back in black as much as the next person, but your argument just doesn't make sense to me. So I guess we'll agree to disagree.

If the NBA truly has a restriction on how many teams can use Black uniforms, and if some teams in the last few years have tried to go to Black, or back to Black as rumored and have been turned down because of this restriction, and then Oklahoma gets to use Black then yes, it's pandering to them.

The NBA would be bending the rule, because a team moved, is changing their uniform, and wants to use Black, because it represents oil. The answer should be (if there is a restriction) I understand why you want to use the color Black, but we have turned down other teams in the last few years for going back to Black or changing to Black. Approving your uniform would not be fair to them. We believe having too many teams with the color Black is not a good thing, therefore we can not approve your new unfiorm.
