We need to make sure the Maloofs understand how much we want to see #4 and #21 hanging in the rafters at Arco.

What I want to see is a joint ceremony. Each one fed the other and the total was more than the mere sum of the parts. Vlade was better because of Chris and Chris was better because of Vlade.

I hope they will combine the ceremonies AND, at the same time, make it a salute to the teams of 2001-2003, who took our breath away on a regular basis and brought us along on the rides of our lives.

It's time.

Vlade had a bigger international impact and is a great humanitarian. I would be exceedingly proud to see his number in the rafters. More so than Webber. But I would like to see them both.

The Webber and Vlade era was the first time Sacramento had an identity other than perennial cellar-dweller and Basketball Siberia.

The two together represented that identity. It wouldn't be right to have one and not the other.

I say it should be done during the very first home opener at the new arena

My thoughts exactly. Remember when the Sacramento Kings jersey was one of the top sellers internationally? Give credit to the Webb/Divac connection.

I like that idea. Those two guys represented the personality of that team more than anyone else. Peja was a great shooter, JWill and Bibby had important roles as did Doug Christie and Bobby Jackson, but it was Vlade and Chris who established the identify of the best passing team in the league. Having two bigs who could pass like that on the same team was all-time NBA and they deserve to be celebrated in Sacramento for bringing some legitimacy to a long-suffering franchise. Both #4 and #21 should be hanging next to Mitch's #2.

I agree with both jerseys being lifted in the 08-09 season, but I would be more in favor of separate ceremonies for each. Although I agree that one could not have done it without the other, they both deserve the individual recognition.

While I suspect management will use the "individual recognition" excuse, I don't think the majority of fans or Vlade and Chris would agree. They played off each other and made each other better. They're pretty much inextricably linked together in the minds of all of us who were there then, as I'm sure you remember.

If you don't do them together, which one do you do first? I honestly think the best way is to recognize that it was the combination of the two of them that made them both such an unforgettable part of Kings history.

I'd like to see them do it this year, and together. This is not a recognition of their basketball careers as much as it is a recognition of their careers in Sacramento.

Plus, I don't expect the Kings to do them separately, at least if they do them both this year. Why would they wait until Webber retired to do Divac's unless they were going to do them together?

I agree that both of them should have their numbers put up. not to get off topic, but i think another banner should be put up. something that says

Sacramento Kings

(((a picture of the 2002 roster in the middle)))

and on the bottom KINGS OF THE COURT 2002

something to commemorate that team. because in my opinion, it was one of the best teams this entire decade.

I just think that the individual recognition would be better for the individuals involved, a la how Utah honored Malone and Stockton.
How would it be better? You'd have EXACTLY the same former players showing up in both instances, which could present logistical nightmares if they had to do it twice.

I don't see any relevance in what Utah did. To be honest, I don't even remember what they did but didn't they honor Stockton when he retired and then Malone after he had finished in LA? We're talking about two individuals who haven't yet been honored, are both now retired, and are inextricably tied in the minds of Kings fans anyway.

This is our Kings. This is about Vlade and Chris. I simply cannot imagine NOT honoring both at the same time.

They should really do it separately to give the appropriate honor to both guys, but I would do it on back to back games so that both could be in town for the other's ceremony (+maybe other former teammates or coahes (Coachie etc.) could as well), + if you are the Maloofs you double your sellouts that way.

And you really should avoid the urge to retire Bobby and Peja or Christie or whoever. You can't just retire numbers willy nilly or you won't have many left before long. Those guys were very good players for us, but you have to draw lines. Webb was clearly the greatest player we've ever had, so he's obvious. Vlade gets in for being the heart. But you can't just take everybody that was a good player on a good team. It has to be the unique guys.

I'm with you on this one. It's not like these are two guys who only overlapped for a year or two and weren't close. This is Vlade & Webb, and who they were to the Kings will always be linked together. It took the combo of the two to bring the Kings to the glory years and I think honoring them together is even more meaningful than honoring them separately. BUT, however they decide to do it, I hope they do it soon. I know that some say we should wait until the new arena, but even if the arena was going to be completed in the foreseeable future, I would still want to see their jerseys hang in Arco first.
