Don't Make Me Use The Bat
I have another question: are posthumous albums allowed?
Can't imagine why they wouldn't be, unless they were tribute albums made for a deceased artist, rather than the artist's own work. Unless, I suppose, they were not original works but greatest hits type compilations.

All Eyez On Me - Tupac

Probably going to surprise some here. It's going majorly against the whole "rock" theme of the thread but I'm definitely more of a rap fan.
Anyone into rap music will agree that this is one of the best albums ever made and definitely one of the most influential. Made by arguably (IMO, certainly so) the best rapper ever, All Eyez On Me has classic songs to suit all moods. For anyone that has gotten to know the real Tupac, and looked past the bad publicity which he recieved, it's not hard to feel some sort of attraction to this multi-talented man (poet, actor as well as rapper). His charity work never recieved publicity and his warm heart shone through so many times I can't remember.
There were a multitude of albums I could have picked from this man, but I think this one suits best because it has every type of song on a two disc set.

This album possibly could have lasted into the later rounds as I'm not sure there's many rap fans here, but might as well go with my favourites :).

So, there we have it. My pick is ;

All Eyez On Me - Tupac

Whew! Thank god a rap guy has finally arrived -- I was kind of counting on there being at least a few so that I wasn't scrambling after scraps left over from 15 other people working my genres. ;)

One of the best rap albums ever? Maybe... Personally, I don't think that it's even the best rap album by Tupac, but YMMV.

atxrocker is on the clock.

Alot rate it as one of the best ever. Personally, I'm with you on that it's not my absolute favourite from him, but as I said above I picked it because "it has every type of song on a two disc set."
BTW, what's YMMV?

Rage Against the Machine- The battle Of Los Angeles

So probably 2 or 3 of the choices I was going to begin with are off the table already, so after much deliberation, I simply could not allow myself to make a selection other than a Rage against the Machine album. Not sure how fast this particular album would have been gone, but I am not taking my chances. I am picking this one for a couple real simple reasons, I always rock the hell out to it and Zach De La Rocha.

I will definitely be picking more hip hop in some of the later rounds. I think right now people are trying to get some of their more universal selections out before they get beat out.

And I agree with Slim that Tupac had some better albums, IMO, me against the world and his makaveli album were better. But all eyez on me was a classic too.

I don't have anything in the 2000s on my draft board until the 12th round. Hell, I've only got three albums between then and now that came after Thriller.

I don't have anything in the 2000s on my draft board until the 12th round.
Kind of scary, I look down my list and go "That's new music" and yet its a band that broke up in 2001, or an album that came out in 1998. I have one or two maybes from this decade but they are all rooted in 50s style American music.

And with the 16th pick...MBF selects

Man, my number 1 overall pick might not be my number 1 overall album, but I wanted to make sure I got it because some others have flown off my draft board already...

The Joshua Tree - U2 (1987)

"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" is by far one of the most soul-stirring, deeply meaningful songs I've had touch me...ever. Performed later on Rattle and Hum with a mass choir (as was all the rage back then...tremendous) And of course, I had a trip to Vegas and had to hum it as I walked along where they filmed the video ;) The rest of the album is fabulous as well. "Bullet the Blue Sky" and "Where the Streets Have No Name" more than made up for how burned out I had gotten on "With or Without You" (thanks for that MTV).

MBF selects next...

Songs In The Key Of Life - Stevie Wonder (1976)

Brilliance, just pure brilliance, in the range and depth of music and emotion Stevie Wonder laid out in this double album. Funny thing is I never actually owned, nor do I think my parents had it (they had a few of his others)...but I grew up on a lot of these songs individually. And finally ran across it after I saw Stevie and George Michael perform a duet of "Love's In Need of Love Today" on a Motown special. (again..sucker for arrangements with a mass choir). "Pastime Paradise" the social commentary "Village Ghettoland". The lyrics of "As" and the funness of "I Wish"? Have I said brillant?

This album was in a collection in the music listening room in the library where I went to college, I would go there and hang out when I had a couple of hours between classes - so yeah, if I'm seeking it out on recess, I would pack it for a deserted island. :)

Which confirms my suspicion that you are probably the only threat to two of my most favoritest selections.

good selection. i like the well-known songs from that album, but went with the Achtung album because One is the best U2 song to me. actually, might be my favorite song of all time, though i couldn't say why.

Glad to see U2 are getting some love. If anyone is interested I can post a video of them on a show that airs over here (Ireland) when they were young. Before they made it big at all. I'm willing to bet alot of you will find it funny!

EDIT: How do you embed youtube videos?

I had this 4th on my list. Excellent pick.
My "list" consists of numerous CDs partially pulled out of their locations in the CD racks to remind me that they are coming up soon. I'm going to play this game as much by "feel" as anything else.....

That may also be my problem, as I have a good half dozen I'd really like to put down ASAP, and I'm not sure in what order to do them in. At least this way if some get snagged I don't have to feel bummed that a "#2" on my list, or whatever, got yanked out from under me. ;)

So, just leave my picks alone, will ya? :D I need all the help I can get!
