American Idol - 2008 (merged)

SLAB

Hall of Famer
1: David Cook --- The Rocker just rocks.
2: Carly Smithson --- One of the better, but will America agree?
3: Micheal Johns --- Needs to step it up Bohemian Rhapsody level performances again.
4: David Archuleta --- No matter what...He's going to win. :-/
5: Chikeze --- Keep up the new good work!
6: Jason Castro --- Not mainstream enough...Only does one thing, and it won't get him votes when it comes to it.
7: Ramiele Malubay --- Use your big voice!
8: Sayesha Mercado --- I still can't get over how she butchered (In my mind) "Yesterday"
9: Brooke White --- I just don't like her that much.
10: Kristy Lee Cook --- Will looks carry her ala Haley Scarnato?

David rocks.

Simple as that...And it's really a shame he's going to lose to David A. because he has all the tweeny-bopper girls voting for him some 100 times each week in and week out.

I've pretty much liked David Cook from the start, so I may be biased, but...

He was outrageous tonight! Blew me away! Once he sang, it was like all the rest of the night's performances faded into the background.

Yes, the teenyboppers like David A. Heck, I like him and think he has an great voice. He's just too young, though. He doesn't have maturity and the confidence that will come with knowing who he really is musically.

For the first time in this competition, I think Kristy Lee is safe.

My bottom three...

Chikeze --- Show your personality.

Brooke --- Still don't like her, and she totally ruined that song.

Jason Castro --- Do something different!

David Cook was awesome last night... However, I do have a problem with him taking all of the credit for that version of the song. It is not original. Instead of him taking all of the credit he should have spoken up and said that he used Chris Cornell's arrangement of the song.

He still rocked it though.....

Here is Chris Cornell's Version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2MgwAJrfXo

I think Ryan mentioned that but you couldn't hear it through the cheering.

I'm in the minority that found it completely awful though.

I hope my wife will let me take this season off the Tivo. I just don't like any of them at all, except Chikezie when he's actually having fun.

My review of last night's show BUT not power rankings:

David Cook - Billie Jean - WOW! Incredible version of one of my favorite MJ songs. LOVED IT!
Michael - OH YEAH! Michael is back. Love the energy.
Sayesha - If I Were Your Woman - back on the right track
Brooke - Every Breath You Take - Very nice, but lose the piano
Carly - Total Eclipse of the Heart - One of my all-time favorite songs. Not her best performance, but should keep her way out of the bottom three.
Kristy Lee Cook - God Bless the USA - If it's all about song selection, she hit it out of the park with this pick.
Chikezie - For One Night - adequate; I'm just not fond of ballads
David Archuleta - ??? - Never heard the song before and hope to never hear it again. Reminded me of the Coca-Cola theme about joining hands and singing. blech.
Jason - Things are Fragile - lose the freaking guitar; break out or leave. Looking more and more like a one-trick pony at this point.
Ramiele - Hearts Alone - blah

I think Ramiele may actually be going home.

After the elimination of Chikezie, my power rankings for this week are:

1. Michael Johns - He regained the top of the list for me with his second incredible rendition of a Freddy Mercury classic.

2. Carly Smithson - She's sharing the two slot. I still think she could win it all - but her song selection is going to be critical from here on out.
2. David Cook - The fastest rising hopeful, if he continues to improve it could end up being him against Michael in the finals.

4. David Archuleta - He's still garnering votes, but I think Simon's comment about a theme park was right on target.

5. Brooke White - She's got character to her voice but she needs to focus on that and NOT try and play the piano at the same time.

6. Syesha Mercado - She has to bring the voice that got her into the competition in the first place.

7. Kristy Lee Cook - She's country but she's getting more confident and it shows.

8. Jason Castro - Lose the freaking guitar and show some versatility, dude. Cute isn't gonna win it alone.

9. Ramiele Malabay - She has to put out all the stops next week or she won't survive. The hint of BIG in her voice just hasn't come to fruitition.

I think each of these hopefuls is talented and will probably find success in music.

New Rankings...And Im gonna miss Chikeze...Minus his flop of a ballad, his last couple weeks were gold.

1: David Cook ---
Same comment as always...Personal style preference, and David freaking rocks!

2: Micheal Johns --- If at all possible ALWAYS stick to Queen!

3: Carly Smithson ---
I really loved her performance this week. She's the best girl by a bit, IMO.

4: David Archuleta --- Only here because I know he gets the teeny-bopper votes...I can't stand him.

5: Sayesha Mercado --- I would rather her have gone home than Chikeze. I don't get why her ballad was so much better than his.

6: Jason Castro --- You really need to expand, man. Quickly, or your time will be short.

7: Brooke White --- I just still can't stand her. I don't know why, but there is nothing there for her.

8: Ramiele Malubay --- Keep using the big voice.

9: Kristy Lee Cook --- She'll stick through country week. Maybe longer, but I think she's still the bottom of the barrel, voice-wise. Still cute as a button though!

Six through Nine are totally interchangeable...And barring a miraculous flop from the top 4/5, they will be leaving the next four weeks at some point.

I think Ryan mentioned that but you couldn't hear it through the cheering.

Yes, Ryan introduced David "singing Chris Cornell's version of Billy Jean." Cook never took credit for it. I think a lot of fans missed the intro and thought it was David's version or gave him credit for it.

1: David Cook - I love him. What can I say?

2: Micheal Johns - Much better performance. Very strong.

3: Carly Smithson - I just think she's the best female, altho I didn't like this performance.

4: David Archuleta - Not really sure where to put him. A very, very good voice (but I hated the song). His immaturity and lack of experience shows. I don't mean that in a negative way. In time, he may be better than anybody else here.

5: Brooke White - I just find her style of singing appealing, altho maybe I should have Sayesha over her.

6: Sayesha Mercado - Big voice, but doesn't wow me.

7: Jason Castro - He does have to do something different and stronger. He's just starting to sound like he's singing the same song over and over.

8: Ramiele Malubay - Actually, she and Jason are probably a tie for me right now. She has a great voice, but I just don't think she's show-casing it. Song choice?

9: Kristy Lee Cook - Yes, she's cute, but isn't as strong as any of the other female singers. Or male either, for that matter.

I'll miss Chikeze. I didn't like this performance, but I do like his voice (smooth) and personality. Ballads just don't show what is especially likeable about his personality. I wish Kristi had gone home instead.:(

Power Ranking Week #3
1. David Cook - He was sensational. He is the winner in my eyes!!!!!
2. Carly Smithson - I thought she was better than the judges said
3. David Archuletta - Didn't like the song, but he sang it well
4. Syesha Mercado - She is getting better, as the week progresses.

6. Brooke White - She was not that good. But will move forward
7. Kristi Lee Cook - She too is getting better, but still not good enough
8. Jason Castro
9. Ramielle Malabay - She should have gone home last night. It is time!!

I used to always look forward to Idol, however, for some strange reason I keep forgetting this show is on. Maybe its on the same time as Dancing with the Stars which I have been watching more.

2. Brooke White
3. Michael Johns
4. Carly Smithson
5. David Archuleta
6. Jason Castro
7. Sayesha Mercado
8. Ramiele Malubay
9. Kristy Lee Cook

Hopefully, next week I can actually watch idol and make my comments for each contestant.

My rating of just tonight's performances:

Michael - It's All Wrong but It's Alright - He's not gonna make his fortune singing country, but the strength of his voice still amazes me. He's definitely gonna be in this to the end.

Carly - Here You Come Again - Excellent song selection and perfect for her voice. And she didn't sound like another Dolly clone. She's regained her stature in my eyes and she's by far the strongest woman left in the competition. Nice job, Carly!

David Cook - Little Sparrow - Nice change up from the rock. In his case, the guitar was an accent, not a prop. He's really growing on me.

Syesha - I Will Always Love You - Talk about a dangerous song selection. Between Dolly Parton and Whitney Houston, this song has been done to perfection. Syesha held her own, and I think this was her best performance in a very long time. But Simon said it best when he said her ending paled in comparsion to Whitney and that's what my ears were listening for.

David Archuleta - Smokey Mountain Memories - His voice is pure but he's just got some growing to do. I do not picture him as the next American Idol. Maybe in a couple of years.

Brooke - Jolene - Again with the guitar. I'm really sorry they changed the rules this year. Adequate but nothing special and certainly not the next American Idol with this performance.

Jason - Travelin' Through - Shades of the 60s and a lot of decent folk singers who were playing various clubs and pubs but never made it big. He's cute as hell but he's just a really cute one-trick pony.

Kristy Lee - Coat of Many Colors - She'll have a career in country music but she's no Carrie Underwood.

Ramiele - Do I Ever Cross Your Mind - Better than last week but if she was ever going to show the power of her voice, this should have been the week. There were songs that would have blown the roof off the place. This wasn't one of them.

I think Ramiele may have done enough to save herself but Kristy should/could go home.

Sorry this is sooooo late. Starting a new job, I don't have access to internet.

David Cook - That was a really good performance. I'm rooting for him all the way.
Michael - He's a really good singer
Carly - She's the strong female singer
David Archuleta - Wow, that was good song
Brooke - I actually thought her song was a bit pitchy
Syesha - She actually was pretty good with a Dolly Parton/Whitney Houston song
Jason - Just wasn't that impressive
Kristy - Actually did pretty good with Country
Ramiele - She's going home

The person going home is Ramiele.

SLAB

Hall of Famer
1: David Cook --- See since the beginning...The rocker rocks.

2: Micheal Johns --- Although I didn't like the musical arrangement behind him this week, I loved the vocals. He rocks almost as good as David does.

3: Carly Smithson --- Has been m yfavorite female contestant since day 1. Shes good.

4: David A --- Still *only* this high on my list only cause he gets votes...I can't stand one thing about him and want him gone...Sadly, I think he's the eventual winner based on the hundreds of thousands amount of teen-girl votes he gets.

5: Jason Castro --- I still like him. He really *REALLY* needs to do some more. This week was a step in the right direction. Keep up the improvement and his charm will carry him through the Top 5 or 6.

6: Sayesha Mercado --- As Simon has said EVERY time you try...Stop with the 'diva' songs! 1st, you can't quite pull them off yet and 2nd, do your own thing!

7: Brooke White -- I really just can't stand this girl. I do not know why, but she rubs me the wrong way.

8: Kristy Lee Cook --- Its nearing the end. :(

I have a question..

What's with the arm waving thing when they sing slow songs?? It's so dang annoying. I am not a church goer, but isn't that a "praise the lord" type wave or whatever? RAAAAWRG! It's just annoying to have to watch people waving their arms back and forth.

That's old school hippie stuff waving the arms & holding up lighters, I was one of those back in the day;)
